Firstly, thank you everso to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] xsnarkasaurus for the adorable dragon on my profile! ♥

I had a most wunderbar weekend on a ski trip with my friends! It was preceded by a nutso week. I shall talk about them! (With a couple visual aids!)

My nutso and (sometimes) wunderbar life. )

This weekend was ALSO a fantastic weekend for my beloved football teams. Sadly I wasn't able to watch it live, but since I was off having so much fun that's okay. :) I got back from snowshoeing Saturday to find that Mainz had won 4-0!!! The noise I made when I saw that would have terrified dogs, haha. My beautiful Ádám scored for the first time since coming back from injury, AND it was against the same team he tore his ACL against more than a year ago! I'm so happy for him. Zidan scored his fourth goal in four games for us, bless his heart. My favorite teeny one, Nicolai, also nicked a goal, and EMCM finished poor Kaiserslautern off. It was our big derby too! Beyond pleased to see all my boys so happy. ♥♥

Also happy were my other boys in red and white, who won THEIR derby 5-2! That's right, Arsenal TROUNCED Sp*rs, and it was glorious. They went down 2-0, then came back to score 5 unanswered goals, including a truly glorious Robin van Perfect strike and FINALLY a Rosicky goal after which he looked so happy I got all teary. AND a Sagna header! AND a Walcott brace! Ahhhh! Take THAT, Gareth fucking Bale, with your stupid face and your stupid dives. The relief of the Arsenal boys was palpable, and the Emirates was just hopping (I managed to catch part of the second half on a skippy stream at the lodge). YAY!

Ádám and Mo are my darling derbysieger! <333

Lalala that's it for tonight!

HELLO LIVEJOURNAL. It has been a while, hasn't it? I'm awfully sorry... again. My life might become more conducive to updating in the near future (more on that in a moment) so I'm going to TRY. Once again. I cannot promise anything. But here, at least, is a snapshot!

In the past week my life has changed at rather lightning pace, so there's a lot of current things to talk about. But first, a rundown of the last... oh dear, six months!

Last I left you, I had given my second year seminar. I then went to a conference in Chicago and presented a poster, which went really well! For the next four months, I worked my ass off on my preliminary exam. That consists of writing a thesis research proposal in grant format, then orally defending it to my thesis committee. I basically made myself sick with stress, and in the event the exam was chill and smooth and my professors basically didn't push anything too hard. So that was a huge relief! And as a result, I am officially a PhD candidate (as opposed to a pre-candidate) \o/!

So fast forward to May and June, when I've been much more of a person! I finally got to go back to Chicago to see [livejournal.com profile] rhombal and [livejournal.com profile] musictoyourlips! :D And [livejournal.com profile] contrariangie was visiting too! We went to see Empires (BEST <333 they're so amazing to see IN Chicago) with Jon Walker opening, lolol. He's kind of terrible, but very earnest. We went to the Globe Pub to watch the last day of the Premier League, I saw a Robin van Perfect goal and ate Roxanne's Arsenal cupcakes, had a lovely chat with a lovely Scottish man and met an Irish boy, and got introduced to an amazing German black lager (!) called Köstritzer (yummm) by a Manchester United fan (booo). We mainlined the entirety of Downton Abbey and HOMG IT IS AMAZING AND CUTE IRISH CHAUFFEUR AND SEXY EARLY FEMINIST COME TO MEEEE. Also Dan Stevens. :D Then I had to leave :((( And I miss their faces :((((((

OH AND I WENT TO SEE MY CHEMICAL ROMANTICS AND THEY WERE AMAZING AND PLAYED VAMPIRES AND VAMPIRE MONEY AND LOTS OF OTHER THINGS AND I LOVE THEM TO TINY BITS AND PIECES. Ahem.

In OTHER news, soccer/football is still my life, it is ridic. Mainz were badasses at the end and QUALIFIED FOR EUROPA YAY. Lewis Holtby remains my future husband. Germany are a bit "what is this fuckery?" sometimes but I still love all their faces. And I got to see both the US women's AND men's national teams live recently! The women beat Japan in a friendly, and the men beat Canada in the Gold Cup group stage (last night!). That was so much fun. The crowds here leave much to be desired, but both games were reasonably high-action and oh man, seeing Abby Wambach and Clint Dempsey score in person was something else.

Just this week, I found out that I'm doing an internship at a local biotechnology company for the next three months! :O I start on June 20th and I will actually have a normal human schedule (i.e. 9 to 5) and no weekends and I'm sort of embarrassingly excited about that. My boss is a bit annoyed that I have to leave (this is a requirement for my funding) but he's trying to make the best of it, and I'm selfishly relieved. Oops. But it should be a good experience in a lot of ways and I am definitely looking forward to it.

In much more exciting recent news, I have finally met a boy! :3 Usually I'll babble about some crush on here and it never comes to anything, but no really, I MET a BOY. His name is Josh! We met on OK Cupid, had our first date last Monday, and we have already had three more dates and he's spent the night in my bed. And I do mean spent the night, ahem. It's faster than I'm used to, but I'm completely comfortable and happy and relaxed which is a very very good thing, and a bit surprising. He's sexy (oh so sexy) AND nerdy - I didn't know that existed in real life! He goes to the gym a loooot so his biceps and everything else are TO DIE FOR, but he's also getting his PhD in nuclear engineering and is frighteningly intelligent. In a very good way. For some reason he appears to be very attracted to me, so basically this week has been a giddy delight. He's sweet but sarcastic, kind, naughty, brilliant, impulsive -all of these great qualities all swirled together. I've never met anyone like him, really, and right now I am just along for the ride and having a blast. Basically I am hoping for a super fun summer with him and not really thinking about beyond that. We are going to see Thor tomorrow night! :D

So that's about it! Candidacy, Chicago, internship, BOY. I hope that with 1) a 9 to 5 job and 2) no regular football, I will have more time to post, but I cannot promise anything. Tell me what is most important in your lives, please! There is a LOT of LJ to catch up on, and I basically have no hope of doing so. As always, you can find me on twitter with this name too!

So one of my New Year's resolutions is to try to reconnect with LJ. I'll probably fail miserably, but I genuinely miss both the community and the amazing record of my life LJ was for such a long time, so I'd really like to get back into the swing of it. Twitter is a serious hindrance, and I have a whole other social life there, but I'm going to try my hardest. If you DO have Twitter though, please do follow me - I'm exsequar there too and always reachable. :) It's not at all about soccer/football anymore, I made a separate account, so if you're worried about that, please don't be! I'd love to talk to you. ♥

Starting small, I'm just going to make a Life post about my week and stuff! So on Tuesday I completed a reasonably large hurdle of my PhD program - the second year seminar. It's kind of a warm up for our candidacy exams but felt pretty huge on its own. Basically I had to make a 20 minute presentation on my research, presenting to people outside of my lab for the first time. This meant that I had to very clearly introduce the material for people unfamiliar with my field, present and justify my hypothesis, and present what data I have that supports that hypothesis before, as well as providing a coherent plan for my research moving forwards. I also felt I had to be very very comfortable with the literature because I could get ANY questions afterward. What this basically meant was that I spent 4 days with my family for Christmas, then immediately began spending 10-12 hours in lab every day, reading papers and putting together my presentation, as well as getting that last crucial piece of data. I bought a lot of frozen food and essentially lived in my lab. But it paid off, because my presentation went great! My actual slides ended up really pretty - including a model I built from scratch using Adobe Illustrator because all the old ones my lab uses are so ugly - and my labmates and boss helped me construct a clear, coherent narrative so it felt fluent and comfortable. Then I got a really great set of questions and was able to easily answer them all, with bonus references to the literature because I had spent all that time reading! I got lots of positive feedback afterward, and my dad even got to see it and was very proud. I'm so relieved to have it done, but I'm also really proud of how well it went. It was the first time I felt maybe I could really do this thing - that is, be a grownup. Not necessarily a scientist, but a grownup. It's a step in the right direction. ;)

I then spent the rest of this week turning that presentation into a poster to give at a conference this weekend in Chicago! It's a very busy week, yes it is. It's the same conference that I went to last year and I really enjoyed it then, so I'm happy to be going again, I look forward to it. I also get to meet up with some darling fangirls tomorrow night so I'm excited. :D After all of this whirlwind, then it's just back to the normal grindstone of lab research. Doing all of this work on making my project clear to others has made it clearer to ME too though, so I hope that I'll feel a bit more confident in my research as I move forwards.

Also super exciting is THE BUNDESLIGA STARTS BACK UP TOMORROW!!!!! *giddy wriggling* That's the German football league for the majority of you out there who are totally lost. :P It's been on hiatus since before Christmas and I have been DYING of boredom. I mean, it was good timing because I wouldn't have been half as focused on my work if it hadn't been on break, but now it's coming BACK and I couldn't be more excited. :DDD I get my beautiful baby Lewis and my badass Basti and hopefully both Mainz and Bayern kicking ass and taking names. I can't help it, I love Mainz, sorry to my Bayern girls out there. At this point I just want both of them to do really well. It's kind of inevitable that Bayern will end up in at least second, so I don't feel bad for rooting for Mainz to do the best they very can. At this point I would like to register a prediction for the end of the season, and we'll see how far off I am: Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke 05, Mainz. That would put Mainz in the Europa League next year, which would be a fantastic achievement for my little baby club. ♥ (And little Lewis has been hinting that he'd like to stay in Mainz for another year... oh please please pleeeease let it happen, football gods!)

In hilarious fandom-sports related news (yes that was a totally valid segue), Johnny Weir is coming to my Borders for a book signing. Lol. Lololol. I'm tempted to go just for the lolz but I should really be at work at that time, so I probably won't. Oh Johnny. Maybe I'll feel the force of his sparkling from my lab.

Speaking of sparkling, OMG THIS T-SHIRT. Dear My Chemical Cupcakes, ILU. (Danger Days is still, like, the best album ever. Well, after Three Cheers. But OMG SO GOOD.)

Last night I saw I Love You Phillip Morris!! I've been wanting to see this ever since I heard it was being made like three years ago. EWAN MCGREGOR!!!!! Ugh, he was so precious and wonderful, all blonde and earnest and Texan and sweet and I WANTED TO PUT HIM IN MY POCKET. I mean, Jim Carrey was great too, and it was a really good film, funny and weird and poignant and tragic. I enjoyed it a whole lot. But mostly EWAN!!! I now want to watch every single film he's done again. Yes even The Pillow Book. Ewannnnnnn. I miss him. *draws pink sparkly hearts*

I should probably pack for Chicago.... so I'll leave you with that. It felt really good to write an LJ post again, I'm not gonna lie, so hopefully I'll start being able to keep it up. Tell me what's up with you, darlings!

Thanks to soccer, no weekend is ever boring anymore! It gives life an odd sense of urgency and electricity all the time. I know I can't keep up this level of emotional investment forever (especially not when I have to focus on my PhD...) but for now, it's tons of fun, especially as my personal life isn't exactly thrilling.

First came the usual whirlwind of Saturday Bundesliga matches - 6 games ALL AT ONCE. This Saturday, there were TWENTY-SIX GOALS in said six matches - I love this league! The match I was invested in, Mainz-Gladbach, was a thriller with the teams taking turns scoring goals and Mainz emerging victorious in the last minutes with a scoreline of 3-2. Mainz's Sami Allagui was a revelation, scoring two miraculous goals as a sub, and Lewis Holtby continued to be the perfect human being. (I'm legit in love with him, it's a little scary, haha.) André got a beautiful goal as well. It was a REALLY REALLY exciting game and probably my favorite of the Bundesliga season so far! I was so happy to see my Mainz bbs return to winning ways after a full month of Bundesliga misery, and their celebrations were as youthful and full of joy as ever. The most adorable bit was when Lewis ran over to the barrier and HIS MOM HAULED HIM UP FOR A CONGRATULATORY KISS. sdlkfsjldfkjs I think my heart exploded a little with joy. :')

Sadly, in contrast, Bayern produced a disappointing draw with Bayer Leverkusen. I only caught the first 20 minutes, during which Bayern's only goal was scored and my Basti was a total hero ♥, but I hear in the second half it went rather downhill, and the final score was 1-1. Really not helping your title defense, honeys. Le sigh. (I have entered a state of emotional self-preservation, wherein losses or draws are no longer crushing, but instead causes for shrugs and sighs, while wins are the pleasant surprises. I'm more functional that way.) Most notable things about this match: Basti shaved off all his hair and looks like a different person, he wore a jersey with the sponsor logo printed upside down for half the match, AND he groped Thomas Müller in the crotch TWICE during a goal celebration. AHAHAHA OKAY BASTI. Never a dull moment with my boy. ♥

But the BEST part of my soccer weekend was seeing a match in person!! My Michigan boys, as you might recall, got into the NCAA tournament by WINNING the Big Ten title, so they hosted a second round game and of course I went to it! My daddy and my roomie came too and we had such a great time. It was overcast but not too cold, perfect soccer-viewing weather. We were playing University of Central Florida, so of course they didn't even own long sleeved jerseys and were all in gloves, awww. It was a super duper thrilling and anxiety-attack inducing match, the WHOLE TIME! UCF is ridiculously good at defense, while Michigan is very strong on offense, so it was a never ending clash of these two powers. The numbers tell the story - Michigan had 31 shots and 13 shots on goal, while UCF only had something like 5 shots in the whole game. Nevertheless, UCF scored first, very early on, and it took until halfway through the second half for Michigan to equalize, on the most gorgeous assist and finish at the top of the box that I had a perfect view for. The stadium EXPLODED, it was such an amazing feeling! Then we finished regulation with a 1-1 tie and had to go into sudden death overtime, and after only four minutes Michigan WON!!!!! I screamed and jumped and it was just generally the most fantastic feeling in the whole world! I think I understand why people are sports fans now. :D It was so wonderful to be in a stadium filled to bursting, watching a team I adore do what it's best at. Now Michigan moves on to the NCAA third round to face 7th seeded South Carolina, a daunting matchup to say the least! I really really hope they win and move onto the Elite Eight! *crosses fingers*

Peeektures! Lewis and Basti and Michigan celebratory crowdsurfing! )

In non-soccer news (gasp!), DANGER DAYS CAME OUT TODAY!!!!! *does a happy dance* The iTunes LP is AWESOME, rich and creative and enormous. I love this band so much. :') But the best part is that I finally gave the album to my dad (who loves Three Cheers but really doesn't like Black Parade) since he's coming to see them with me in December, and he emailed me specifically to say HE LOVES IT! IT'S KICKING HIS ASS!! I am so happy and proud, oh my goodness. Now I'm looking forward to the show even MORE, because I know my dad will love the experience too. :DD And I also have tickets to see them in Cleveland in April with [livejournal.com profile] angel726! AHHHH I AM SO EXCITED AND I LOVE THIS BAND SO MUCH. I've literally listened to nothing except this album for the past five days, lmao. Ugh so many hearts! ♥_____♥ My favorite song has become Save Yourself, it's just so gorgeous. But I love the WHOLE ALBUM. *happy sigh*

That's all for now! Toodles!

I mentioned in my last post that I have been given an "official" blogging position - thank you for your very sweet enthusiasm for me! I'm really very excited about it. So excited, in fact, that I banged out an epic debut post! I have a lot of ~thoughts and feelings~ about the match tomorrow, Germany vs Sweden, for which Germany has called up a lot of new, young faces, a couple of whom are MY BBS Lewis Holtby and André Schürrle! It's actually a really important moment for many of these young players, who will have their first chance to prove themselves as valuable assets for the senior squad.

I know to most of you this post will be entirely nonsense, but I'd appreciate a click out of the goodness of your hearts - my bosses count our hits! And for the few of you that are interested, I hope you'll find the post enjoyable and informative. :)

So without further ado, my blogging debut! Can the Kids Play? In Sweden, They Will...

MICHIGAN MEN'S SOCCER ARE THE 2010 BIG TEN CHAMPIONS!!!

That's the Saad brothers in front! They are SO HAPPY about each other's existence, oh my goodness. ♥___♥

I tear up every time I think about how happy they were. SO MUCH HAPPINESS. I watched the game on TV with my dad, uncle, and roomie Emily, and what a game it was!! Michigan absolutely burst out of the gate with an early Soony Saad goal (who else?!), Justin Meram struck twice in the first half with absolutely gorgeous goals, and Hamoody Saad nailed a penalty near the end to seal a 4-1 victory. That's the highest scoreline EVER in a Big Ten final! Glorious soccer, all around, and I COULD NOT BE MORE PROUD. The soccer program here is only 11 years old, and the same man who started it, Steve Burns, is still their coach, so this is just the most fantastic reward for all his years of hard work.

ALL HAIL TO THE VICTORS VALIANT! :D :D :D

It's so amazing that the one sport I decided to follow at my new Big Ten school goes ahead and wins their conference immediately. Hahaha. Fantastic. ♥ I just wish I had seen more games this season! I will see ALL THE GAMES next season to make up for it. \o/

ONTO THE NCAA TOURNEY! I hope they do really well!

And just to cap off all the amazingness, I have just discovered that tomorrow the team will be at a pub watching the NCAA draw on TV, and FANS ARE INVITED TO HANG OUT. Um. Ummmm. You guys, this is like getting into a brand new TV fandom and suddenly discovering you can go hang out with the cast. WHAT IS BREATHING OMG. I'm obviously going to go because I would KICK myself if I didn't, but I'm terrified that I'll be super duper awkward. It's a bunch of undergrad boys! I am not an undergrad boy! IDK IDK. But I really hope to get to chat with Soony Saad, he seems like such a lovely guy and he's just so talented and I want to ask him about how he started following Liverpool and sdkjljskdf I'M REALLY EXCITED OKAY.

Also this weekend, Bayern finally won decisively, my roomie had a fun birthday party last night, and I got no work done! All in all it was delightful times!

Who's just gotten his first call up to the German national football team? That's right, THIS KID.

My one and only bb, Lewis Holtby. I will definitely tear up when he takes to the field. :') Also announced are several other rising starlets, ages 18-22. TEAM OF BBs. I am beyond excited. It's only a friendly against Sweden, but the team is going to be so delightful and fresh faced! I can't wait to see who else Jogi calls up!

Relatedly, I've started co-modding a Tumblr dedicated to my little blond one, so if you're intrigued by him feel free to check it out! He likes to be shirtless. :D Fuck YEAH Lewis Holtby!

Also, today is the birthday of the one and only Philipp Lahm. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY TINY FIPS! You and your defending and your eyebrows and your championing of AIDS awareness and anti-homophobia. ILU, tiny beautiful bb.

This is my 2,501st post! Yay! *throws confetti* My my, I've certainly had a lot to say, haven't I? Not recently as much, sadly, but LJ has been such a hugely important part of my life for the last 6 years or so. I'm so glad I found it and all of you. ♥

Life things! My daddy has now moved to Ann Arbor and it's so wonderful to have him around. He's moved into his brother's house because he couldn't afford to keep his house in Connecticut anymore. It's unfortunate, and he's sad he had to leave my sister (who's in high school and living with my mom), but he's always loved Ann Arbor and so much more of his family (his two siblings, his nieces and nephews, me!) are here and I think it's going to ultimately make him happier. He already got a good offer on his house back in CT and the inspection process is underway, so fingers crossed that that all goes smoothly! An offer this soon was definitely not expected in this economy, so I hope so much it works out. I recruited some friends to help him move furniture in and stuff, so that was fun, and since then we've just been hanging out now and then, and it's really, really nice. My daddy is my favorite person in the whole world, so having him around is like having a best friend nearby again (something I've felt sorely lacking ever since Francisco moved away). Yesterday we went for a wonderful walk/hike through the UMich arboretum - it was the most perfect fall day, 60s and sunny, and we had a lovely time. Then he made his delicious stew for dinner and ohhh I have missed my daddy's home cooking! It was a really great day.

Another great thing about yesterday is I finally got my bike!! My dad brought my old high school bike out with him and so now I finally have it, so I bought a helmet and a lock and lights and I am all ready to go! I hopped on it for a quick spin yesterday and it felt so right - I didn't realize how much I had missed it! Biking is so much more fun than running to me - I love speed! I'm going to be biking to and from work from now on (almost 1 mile each way) and tonight I took it out for a little while. I came back sweaty and noodle legged but it was so great, I really loved it. Hopefully I can make that a regular part of my life. :D

Moar life thoughts and such. )

So that's my life right now! I figured it was time for an update of some sort.

How are you? ♥

BAYERN WON YESTERDAAAAAY! On a literally last gasp (91st minute!) goal by Daniel van Buyten, of all people, but my boys fought and fought and deserved to come away with the win. Thank god, because we REALLY needed those damn points. It still wasn't very good for my heart - Lahm is playing atrociously, and I NEVER thought I would say that (and okay, he's playing fine, but for his normal standards? ATROCIOUS). And most horrible of all, Ribéry was supported off the field crying and yelling in agony - he'll be out for at least 4 weeks, possibly longer. :((( We... uh, kind of need him, especially without Robben. So THAT sucks. But we came away with the points and I'm clinging to that.

So in celebration, I bring picspam!

The ever lovely [livejournal.com profile] munkykiss messaged me on Twitter and was all, godammit, FINE, show me Germans! And I was all :D! :D! OKAY I WILL SHOW YOU MANY MANY ADORABLE WONDROUS GERMANS AND YOU WILL LOOOOVE THEM! :D! :D! I think I frightened her a little. But I promised to deliver, and even though this is much later than I planned, I COME BEARING GERMANS! In GIF form, specifically. Please see this huge post for a picspam of WC2010 - so much epic. <333 But for now, I was specifically asked for gifs, so here they are! Warning: THIS HAS A LOT OF GIFS. Do not enter unless you have GOOD internet and your computer won't die. Consider yourselves warned!

And there you have it! A highly biased selection of my darling, beautiful Germans being cute and badass and hugging each other a lot. :D I hope you enjoyed!

Things that sucked about fußball/futbol/football this weekend:
  • Bayern tied. Again. With Köln. Again. 0-0. Again. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I HATE SCORELESS DRAWS??!??! *pulls out hair* The Bayern season is beyond fucking frustrating right now. Lowest goals scored in the WHOLE LEAGUE, but also very few conceded, because every match is just this push and pull and NO ONE CAN PUT THE BALL IN. We have Müller! And Klose! And Kroos! And Ribéry! These are WORLD class goal scorers, yet they keep coming up empty. We have one of the highest shooting rates in the whole league, yet we've scored TWO goals in FOUR matches. Pathetic. This better be like last season where we just take a while to find our rhythm, but this time there's no Robben to swoop in and save the day - at least not for a while. Sigh.
  • Arsenal tied in a brutal way, losing Fabrégas to injury, Song to suspension, and missing a penalty kick. The equalizer was scored in the last minutes. It was awful. Poor Gunners. Now let's just hope Cesc isn't out too long.
  • Liverpool lost to ManUtd in a rip roaring clash of rivals. Berbatov slammed home a hat trick, which is good news for my CL fantasy team (potentially - come on Berba!) but wasn't so nice for Liverpool. Stevie tried his best, putting in a brace from set pieces, but it wasn't enough. Nando mostly fell over and missed easy chances. That boy is breaking my heart. :'(
  • Back in Germany, both Stefan Kießling (who's usually on the German NT) and Patrick Helmes got injured for Leverkeusen today. After the loss of Ballack, this is the last thing they need. Also I'm just fond of both of them and it makes me sad. :(
  • MESSI got injured in a real nasty tackle. The pictures of his ankle post-ligament dislocation are nauseating. D: It's little Messi! I don't love Barça, but he is a lovely young man and didn't deserve that very low-brow tackle at all.
  • Bremen lost to Mainz! o.O

Good things that happened:
  • Real Madrid won. They didn't play well, but somehow they won. Yay?
  • Schalke lost yet again.
  • Basti and Poldi were reunited in the sweetest way imaginable oh my goodness. Beaming hugs and too much touching and lkjsdfls I love them. There was nothing after the game because Poldi was happy about the draw while Bayern was frustrated and angry, so that makes me sad. But they're obviously still such adorable bffs. ♥

Now if you look at all that in the aggregate, basically it sucked to be a fußball fan this weekend. For some reason the injury gods are pissed off and smiting people left and right. I really wish they would stop. But I am glad that somehow Bayern remains entirely intact - a glimmer of light on a very dismal start to the season.

IN OTHER NEWS, I'm really glad I have some other things to keep me happy, like oh say, THE KILLJOYS! Band of my heaaaart. I can't count the number of times I've watched/listened to that video. This is for all you rock n rollers, you crash queens and motorbabies! Sdflskjflk. In all seriousness, I think this is the most genius AND pleasing promotional move by the band. By giving us a video, they give us a taste of the feel for the new album, and where they are as a group of people, and also a bunch of tasty new visuals to work over, manipulate and adopt to our little hearts' contents. And at the same time, we get a massively tasty snippet of a new song, enough to tell us that it's AWESOME, but not enough that when the song itself comes out it will already feel old. I love how TEASING it is, but still incredibly generous in content. It's basically BRILLIANT and I love this fucking band so much I can't even. *____*

Today I went to the Renaissance Faire with my cousins! For once it was PERFECT weather (partly cloudy and upper 60s/lower 70s - exquisite) and we just had a fantastic time. It's a big, fancy one, so lots of things to see and do and buy. I saw glass blowing and a birds of prey show (I LOVE Peregrine falcons) and all kinds of other neat things, including my faaaavorite comedy/sword fighting troupe which I've probably seen ten times now. :D

Right now I am almost literally falling asleep as I type so I shall hit the hay. Goodnight motorbabies! <3333

Moar pictures of fussballers! :D? My awesome friends are running a small Champions League fantasy league, and we all decided to do picspams of our teams. So I'm crossposting here!

You'll notice that I'm low on the Spain contingent - that's because several of the people in my league are Spain fangirls, and each player can only be owned by one person. So I just stayed away from that fray for the most part. :P But I managed to nab some ~Germans~ (really just Müncheners), including THE BEST GERMAN! My team is pretty crazily international though, coming from all kinds of national teams and clubs. Fun times! I think it's got a good chance of getting me reasonable points. Since I have my Twitter outlet (I GOT PUT IN TWITTER JAIL FOR TWEETING TOO MUCH ABOUT THE GERMANY-BELGIUM GAME YESTERDAY LMAO) I feel like I get enough squee out there, BUT I need to have my love for one Bastian Schweinsteiger on the public record. :D I just threw together a picspam for an [livejournal.com profile] ontd_football post in roughly five minutes, so I'm just gonna slap it up over here so I can come back and chinhands at it from time to time. I'm trying not to stress about making it too comprehensive because I have literally 450 PICTURES OF THIS MAN on my computer, so I'm just letting it stand as is. SIIIIGH BASTIANO I LOVE YOU SO MUCH.

Image heavy! Fussball heavy! SEXY HEAVY! )

Fucking hell I love him. :')

This was my weekend:

Friday - drove from Michigan to Connecticut with my sister. 13 hours. Lots of music and silly car games and trying not to fall asleep.

Saturday - Got my car emissions tested as required by Connecticut (where it is registered). Passed! Hung out with my daddy and sister. Hung out with my mom, step-dad, and brother. Fought with my brother, who is a selfish douchebag. I would rant about him but it's not really productive. Watched RockNRolla, Guy Ritchie's ridiculous film starring Gerard Butler but actually starring Tom Hardy in my heart. Unf. Also the guy who played Archie was amazing. But seriously, ridiculous film.

Sunday - DROVE BACK TO MICHIGAN. Yes. That was indeed 1500 miles (and $140 in gas and tolls) in three days. Holy moly. Drive went smoothly except for when I stopped for lunch I noticed one tire was very flat, so I checked it and found that it had only 10 pounds of pressure when it should have 30. o.O Um, scary! So I filled it and called my daddy, and he said that sometimes that happens - I had driven over a curb really hard accidentally yesterday, so sometimes that can just knock the tire loose and cause temporary pressure loss. I checked it again a few miles later, and then again later, and it was fine, so I guess that's all it was, phew! That was scary though. There were also a lot of assholes on the road, and my middle finger and horn got quite the workout. Oy. They should require a test to drive these things! ....oh wait. :P

So there goes another weekend down the drain. This summer has been SO hectic and all over the place. I seriously haven't felt like I've been in Ann Arbor for more than a week at a time, and my research is really suffering. I honestly feel terrible and wish it wasn't this way, but everything I've done has been unavoidable for one reason or another. And I'm not even done yet - I'm going to California in three weeks, Chicago the week after, then Chicago again in October. I'm also going to three concerts in the next two weeks. Why am I so childish and irresponsible? I feel like I totally don't have the dedication or focus I need to be a successful PhD student. It's not that I don't want to do my work - I really do. But I also haven't learned to say no to fun things that I can do now that I have the financial means, and a boss who is really way too lenient with me.

/self-loathing. Aaaanyway.

I have a music rec! The fabulous [livejournal.com profile] novembersmith gave me a rec in my last post that has really sunk its teeth into me, and I wanted to pass it on. It's this band called Spinnerette, which is the solo project of Brody Dalle, who used to be in punk band The Distillers. Her sound is grungey and fast and raunchy and SO AWESOME. It was great driving music. Check it out!

OH AND TODAY WAS BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER'S BIRTHDAY. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BB!!!! I love him more than words can express omg. *__*

The wee ones love him toooo!! Get down with yo bad self Bastiano! <3333

Also also, today the Germany U-20 women's football team WON THEIR WORLD CUP!! Super fantastico! :D On home soil, no less! They sealed it with a 2-0 victory over Nigeria. Wooo! The German youth programs are so, so awesome. :D (Now it's time for that to translate into THE World Cup victory... right? Right?)

And now I'm going to collapse into bed in order to face a new week. Gah.

How are you, LJ? ♥
