BSG = love

I'm making another post about BSG because I'm in love. (I feel so guilty... you're still my dirtybadwrong loves, Sam and Dean, but you're just on the backburner for a second!) Yeah, you know when I stay up til almost 4 making icons of a fandom, I'm really into it.

So.

First order of business: Karalee. Yep, that's what I'm calling them, isn't it cute? Just rolls off the tongue. Which might have something to do with the bakery company Saralee, but we'll ignore that.

ANYway, I LOVE them. New OTP, really. I can watch all of their interactions a dozen times. They're just so comfortable with each other, and yet there's a tension there, because of Zac (Zach? Zak? Zack? erg), that definitely comes into play. It's especially a barrier to the growing affection they obviously feel for each other. I mean, you don't call out the wrong guy's name in sex if you think of him as just a brother. Honestly :P And when Lee kissed her in Home Pt 1, and then said I love you later... yes, it could be construed as "just friendly," I guess, but the way he looks totally stunned after the kiss, and then tries to deny ever saying I love you... if it was just purely friendly, there would be no awkwardness there, and it's AWKWARD LIKE WHOA. And then in "Final cut," do you know how intimate Kara's voice sounded when she was reciting the poetry? Right up close to him like that? Mmmmmm. And, and, TINY TOWEL. SO TINY. Kara totally looked at his ass and smirked. It amused me. And then later, Kara's like "He likes to push my buttons." and I'm like YEAH he does! *g* But seriously, I can't wait to see where this relationship goes. It's so odd to me to have canon to (hopefully) look forward to, because I try to avoid shipping the "obvious" ships, but I really can't help it with these two.

Also, my Starbuck love remains at FULL THROTTLE. Katee is just so talented. The Farm was basically Starbuck's ep, and she was so brave and strong and broken at the same time and I felt so strongly for her. I can't believe she was abused as a child! And pretty damn badly, by the sound of it. The poor thing... :( And then putting the arrow in the statue, she looked so tentative and apprehensive yet incredibly excited. And when they're on Earth, she's absolutely bursting with emotion when she says "We're standing on it." Her voice is quiet and husky with emotion, and it kind of breaks me a little bit. And I also giggle a lot when she says "I think that was the lobby!" HEE. She always has such a brilliant sense of humor. And you know... really strong religiosty sometimes bothers me or makes me uncomfortable, just because it is so outside of my own mindset that I can't even comprehend it, but Kara has very, VERY firm beliefs in the gods, and I find her belief genuine and touching and lovely.

Ahhhhh. I have found my new Faith! (Oh, how ironic ^_^)

You know, in general, this show is pretty heavy handed with the religious stuff. And it's affirming it - Laura's whole belief system was completely validated when they were transported to Earth. Gosh! (Or at least a vision of Earth. Or something.) But the thing is, I fully enjoyed that storyline. I found their quest fascinating, and really admired their dedication. It got slightly hokey when that arrow thingybob was just sitting in a frakking museum, but that was better than sending Kara on some long adventure to find it (away from Lee, which we don't want ;)) so I'll look past that. Like I said above, really devout religion does not sit too well with me, but this storyline was pulled off very tastefully. I enjoyed it a lot. I'm not so sure about Six's constant preaching to Gaius, and the HAMMER TO HEAD nature of the Jesus imagery, but Six and Gaius are still entertaining and really quite fascinating, so that's okay.

Now, just to get my thoughts (at this point) down about a wide variety of people... character thoughts! In no particular order, just how they occur to me.

  • Saul Tigh - Ugh. I didn't like him at first, now I REALLY don't like him with Ellen around. He's just an asshole who makes really stupid decisions.
  • Ellen Tigh - *stabstabstab*
  • Dee Dualla - I love her more and more. She's so stable and unshakeable, friendly to everyone, sweet and sensible. Absolutely brilliant at her job, just crazily capable, which is so admirable with the stresses she has to bear. Also, she pretty much singlehandedly saved the fleet when she convinced Adama to bring the "family" back together. You go girl! And there's a lovely bit of character development seen in Final cut, but I'll refrain :)
  • Lieutenant Gaeta - (Random sidenote: does "lieutenant" come from "in lieu of" and "tenant"? It definitely makes sense. Hee! I love words) I really like this guy. I know he's background a lot, but he really knows his stuff and is so good at what he does. But he's really human too, as we've seen in glimpses. The actor is really quite talented. I really like Gaeta's unswerving loyalty to Adama. He's pretty too, which never hurts ;)
  • Bill Adama - The old man! He's so very stoic, to the point where sometimes you might think he doesn't care just because he's so expressionless, but through the cracks you see a man right on the edge of breaking. Who could blame him? He was about to retire and then the world literally blew up, and now he's got so much responsibility. And it's a testament to how important he is that when he's downed, EVERYTHING FALLS APART. That's partially a function of Saul being second in command (and WTF?! he's so incompentant. In this Bill is pretty blind) but still, the whole thing can't function without him. He's the glue. I adore his relationships with Lee and Kara. He loves Lee so much and there was that big rift there but now it's starting to close and every time they hug or Bill says that they would never leave if Lee was lost on a moon, I totally tear up. And it's clear that he has mountains of affection for Kara. When he pushes her hair back and kind of touches her face in Home Pt 2? Broke me. And he has so much confidence in her, giving her the assault on the cylon base to plan. I love Bill, so much, except for that time when he made the stupidest decision ever and ordered the assault on the president's ship to remove her from office. *facepalm* But he came to his senses, so it's all good now. His relationship with Laura is lovely too. Sometimes wary, circling each other like cats, but they clearly respect each other and it's just very sweet.
  • Laura Roslin - I don't have too many thoughts about her, but I definitely like her. She was a teacher, for god's sake, and look at everything she's done! She stepped into a massively pressure filled situation and stood her ground and did what she had to do. Very, very admirable. Another strong female character (yay! Definitely one of the things I love about this show).
  • Gaius Baltar - Hilarious and yet terrifying. I love the role his character plays in terms of the structure of the show, because he's quite often the comic relief, but at the same time he could pose a VERY serious threat to everything. A brilliant dichotomy that is carried off perfectly. He's such a sleazeball, and selfish and narcissistic to boot, but you can't help but love him. Oh Gaius.
  • Billy - is adorable. *squish!*
  • Galen Tyrol ("chief", how I knew him for a while) - I really like him. Sometimes he gets overly... earnest, or something, but I still like him. Poor guy's gone through a lot. I don't have any more articulate thoughts on him though, lol.
  • Helo - I feel like he doesn't have any kind of distinct personality in my mind. If I tried to think of what he would say at any given time, I wouldn't be able to do it. He's just... forgettable to me. I'm not sure why.
  • Boomer (all versions) - Kind of the same. The actress is good, but when she tries to be forceful and intense she just kinda... fails. So I can't quite take her seriously. She is good at the quiet emotional stuff though. And when she shot the guy who was trying to kill Lee, instead of killing Bill, and then gave her gun to Bill with that whole speech, my respect for her shot up. That was very impressive.
  • Lee - Best for last! (Well, Starbuck's best, but I already wrote an ode to her ;) See above). I love Lee. I heart Lee. I want to put Lee in my pocket and keep him there forever. He's the perfect blend of everything. Hardass captain when he needs to be (ok BEST QUOTE EVER, I'll say it after this list), but humorous when it's appropriate, very big hearted, just... everything I could ever want in a guy, honestly. Plus, biceps. YUM. (I've said that before, but it bears reiterating). I've said a lot about him in this post already, regarding his relationships with Kara and Bill, so yeah. But suffice to say I LOVE LEE.

Okay, best quote ever. From Final cut, but not spoilery, just FUNNY.

"Captain Lee Adama, commander of the airgroup, that's pronounced CAG. I suggest you find an exit as soon as possible. And that's pronounced ASAP."

    HAHA. OWNED.

And icon! I made several but I think this is my favorite so far. She looks so awesome there, for no particular reason.
