The only holy thing about me is my socks

Making a quick post before I run off and read me some [livejournal.com profile] dormida RPS... mmmm.

1) Just watched The Shawshank Redemption. What an incredible movie! Just so fantastically done, in every single way. Plot, acting, directing, just everything. Truly beautiful. Morgan Freeman is really an astonishingly good actor, and I had never seen Tim Robbins in anything where he really got to show off his chops before. So that was very impressive.

This seems a good time for a story... my senior class asked Tim Robbins to do a speech at our graduation (someone in my grade has a parent who knows him... yeah, ridiculous) and he couldn't do it, but he felt bad about it, so he taped himself speaking to us, with some advice and what have you, and mailed it to us. We watched it during Senior Parents' night. He didn't have anything dreadfully interesting to say, but it was still very kind and thoughtful of him. So he's going in my plus column :)

On a typically shallow note, I must say that my inner slasher was absolutely *screaming* during this movie - I am fully convinced that Red and Andy were in love. It was just so obvious, and almost text instead of subtext. It really just made the movie that much more fun to watch :) So yes, if you haven't seen it, see it!

2) SHOEBOX. Shoebox had an update yesterday, and I read it, and nearly died. It's one of my favorite installments yet. A gorgeous mix of poignant and beautiful and funny. As usual, but this one was particularly affecting.

The rapports that [livejournal.com profile] ladyjaida and [livejournal.com profile] dorkorific have built between all the different characters stun me with their subtlety and beauty. James and Lily are so perfect together, James and Sirius have an undefinable but so strong relationship, and, of course, Remus and Sirius... the last scene of this chapter was so touching and affecting. The embrace, and how Sirius asks Remus if he's been practicing, and the attention to tiny details like the hairs and the gentle brush of Sirius's fingers against Remus's lip, and the beauty of every single sentence. It seriously brought me to tears multiple times.

And that's another thing - even though this is a Remus/Sirius fic, we're 22 chapters in and the puppies have had one awkward kiss, and still have not admitted the possibility that they're gay. And yet... their relationship in shoebox is my favorite of any fic. Because it is so damn REAL, and nuanced, and intricate, and you can feel the intimacy without being hammered over the head with it. It's such a gorgeous balance. And the fact that these two ladies are writing an original novel together makes me so happy, and I hope very much that they succeed, because in my opinion they write much better than many accomplished, famous authors do.

So, yay them. :)

I guess that's it for my random rambling. Off for some slashy goodness!

Wow that slash sounds good...and I don't do guy/guy. I may have to check it out!!

What, you mean Shoebox? Oh yes, it is one of the best fanfics out there (and very long as well) and even though it's slash, it's not really, not if you don't want it to be. My brother reads it and loves it, and he obviously doesn't go for slash. So you should totally check it out. Here: [livejournal.com profile] shoebox_project

Someone was telling me, though, that Shoebox may not end up as R/S. I remember reading that yes, it would, but I think it was [livejournal.com profile] blacksatinrose who said [livejournal.com profile] ladyjaida had made a further addendum that said it may not go shippy anymore. Hmm.

Really? O.o It seems to be tending in that direction all the time. I mean, all the little hints and everything. Huh. Well, I'll still love it even if it doesn't. And I guess that makes sense, since they're heading into more serious territory with the war and everything. Guess we'll have to wait and see!

'The Shawshank Redemption' is one of my favourite movies of all time. Can't believe it received so many negative reviews when it first came out and now it's considered a classic. :)

Did it really?? That's awful, and very surprising! It definitely deserves to be a classic.
