We're like the Doom Patrol.

I feel like there are some essential pieces of MCR canon I've just completely missed. This Blender article is one of them. In which Gerard is very honest about the week he sobered up, and Mikey is darling, and Brian Schechter is Brian Schechter, and Gerard swears like a sailor to a show at a high school.

My favorite bit:
When Gerard was still working in comic books, his favorite creation was The Amazing Goffo Brothers, Piano Movers Extraordinaire. A black comedy set in a creepy, anonymous city, it was a metaphor for the relationship between him and his younger brother, Mikey.

Despite their age difference (Gerard is 27; Mikey is 24), the Way brothers wore matching outfits as children. Today, the Ways arrive at a Midtown Manhattan restaurant wearing identical black jackets, but that’s the only visible similarity.

With his blood-red tie, ink-black hair and snow-pale skin, Gerard looks part Jack White, part Edward Scissorhands, and sounds as if he’s been hanging out at the Bada Bing! club. His stick-thin sibling, meanwhile, wears oblong-framed glasses and the kind of candy-striped wool hat favored by fourth-graders and fashion stylists. He has the most extraordinary laugh: a shrill, girlish giggle that causes waiters to turn their heads.

Eeeee, Mikey's giggle! *draws pink sparkly hearts* And Gerard wrote a comic about them, n'awww! MATCHING OUTFITS! Ugh, WAYS. <3333333

Speaking of the Ways, have a rec for a story (and sequel) that made me unspeakably happy for how well it was done. This story explains exactly what I mean when I go "Oh my god WAYS! *flappyhands of incoherence*" only in a much more eloquent way.

Tints of Rainbow Hue by [livejournal.com profile] turps33 - Frank/Mikey with a healthy dose of WAAAAYS, G, 16,600 words - An AU in which Ray has a gardening business, and Frankie and Bob are his employees. The Way brothers call a gardening service to help with their disaster of a front lawn, and basically it's all far more beautiful and poignant and achey than I could possibly express. If you love any story where it feels like the BAND is the central pairing, go read this. And the adorable sequel of Frank/Mikey schmoop, Richard Of York (Let's Start Anew). Love love love love.

I am off to pick Rob up from the airport, yay!

Auhfdusdf, that quote! I love it. I'm gonna read the article and flail.

Also, I've had that gardening AU on my to-read list for AGES. I've never been able to get past the first few sentences, even though I've heard from a million people about how good it is, and I've read other stuff that I really enjoyed by that author. But you squee about it so I'll hop to it and read.

I hope you get through it! It's a strange concept at first, but I've definitely read stranger AUs, lol, and it works so well!!

The Amazing Goffo Brothers, Piano Movers Extraordinaire

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA XD

This is why my default reaction to him is, "Oh, Gerard." *shakes head, grinning*

I know right?? Heeheehee! PIANO MOVERS! Whaaaat? *draws hearts*

I never read that either but this was my favorite: “We didn’t do a show for charity just for Gerard to call them a bunch of motherfuckers.”

*giggle*

Hahaha I loved that bit. Another instance of Brian's fruitless attempts at cat wrangling! <333

I remember reading that article a while back and LOVING IT. That bit that you quoted, about Mikey's giggle, totally stuck with me. <3

Omggggg, Way brothers. <3

I did not know there was a sequel to that story! You're right, it's precious. *scampers off*

[identity profile] modillian.livejournal.com 2008-04-17 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Omgggg asklskdjflkdfk, the image of Gee trying to beat up someone!!! Gerard nods. “Sometimes all we have to do is get up there, make some feedback and say, ‘Yeah we’re from Noo Joisey,’ and then hit ’em like a bomb. People are like, ‘Hey, I don’t want to get beat up!’”

[identity profile] exsequar.livejournal.com 2008-04-18 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
Ahaahahaha, I KNOW. It's so ridiculous and hilarious! That reminds me of that priceless bit on LOTMS when Gee's talking about that guy outside a crack house or something who said "Better stay on that side of the street motherfucker, or I will knock you out". It's just so CUTE how Gee says it, and I think that guy had it more right *g*

NOM NOM NOM I LOVE THOSE RIDICULOUS BOYS SOOOO. MUCH. The bit about Mikey's stupid laugh is one of my favourite parts, too.

And the Doom Patrol bit.

OH GERARD, YOU ARE SUCH A NERD. ♥!!

Quite stoked to read the recs, thank you! [livejournal.com profile] turps33 is pretty fucking awesome, tbh.

His nerdiness frequently gives me JOY IN MY HEART. <333333
