And there's my heart, shattered on the ground

Anyone who says Kripke's the new Joss? Yeah, um... no. Not really.

I will not turn this into a bash of Kripke but instead a WORSHIP AT THE ALTAR OF WHEDON. Because holy god. It's been a long time since I watched one of his shows linearly that was mostly new to me, and AUGH. I just watched Angel 3x14, "Couplet", and and and I'M A LITTLE BROKEN. See, I already know most of the major plot points of Angel. I know Wesley reads in the prophecy that Angel's gonna kill Conner, so he takes Conner away. I knew Gunn and Fred got together and that it broke Wesley's heart. I knew Groo came back and got with Cordy and it broke Angel's heart. But I didn't know the ORDER that all these things happened in, and the way Joss plays my emotions like a virtuoso violinist... I just, I'm constantly blown away by his storytelling. It makes me go O.O and ;_; and -_- and x_x. And everything in between. I started crying when Angel told Cordy to take Groo on a vacation, and gave her back the money for the potion, and just the generosity was so heartwarming and god, Angel, god... sometimes you're a goofy, self-centered little biatch, but then you pull it all together, and truly, you are a champion. *is crushing SO HARD* And then, THEN, Wesley writes "The Father will kill The Son" and I'm all !!!! NOT NOW NOT NOW and fade to black and cue flailing. Jesus.

Why YES Joss Whedon, I WILL have your babies. Your pasty white BRILLIANT babies.

WORD.

Much as I love Supernatural and Kripke, there can never be another Joss or anyone even close to it in my eyes. Never. Ever. Ever.

Have I mentioned... never??

We may have to share the duty my love. I have been a JW fan for so long I cannot remember a time I didn't worship the Whedon.
He has owned my ass since the first days of Buffy. See, when you make Buffy and Angel fall in love, then finally make love only to have it turn Angel all bad ass and mean and OMFG! *insert massive freak out flailing!* THEN he kills Ms. Calendar and you have the whole season (which was so full of wonderful angst I didn't know what to do with myeself) end with Willow turning Angel good again just to have Buffy kill him and send him to hell AND you top the whole things off with Sarah Mclachlan's "Full of Grace"...I became JW's slave that night!
So no...Kripke is a god in his own way (How long is that friggin hiatus again....I am suffering from Jared and Jensen withdrawl...GUH!) but the next Joss......that would be a NO!
I still need to get Angel on dvd, I adore David Boreanaz. Hugs honey :)

I am so with you here.

It doesn't matter how many times I watch, in what order, or how long it's been since the last time... It doesn't matter if I've forgotten parts or know every freaking word. Whedon finds a way to totally OWN MY EMOTIONS every freaking time!!!

[identity profile] vanya-elda.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
God yeah. It's exhausting to just watch.

[identity profile] itjustsaysnow.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
I shall be fighting you for the right to have little tiny BRILLIANT Joss babies!!

(and i only felt the need to put this in a seperate comment so that I could use both Joss icons. Hee!)

[identity profile] exsequar.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god I hadn't heard that quote! SO MUCH LOVE! *dies*

[identity profile] black-regalia.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
Having nothing to do with Joss Whedon at all...

I'm confused by the love SPN fandom has for Eric Kripke. I'm not sure how they didn't pick up on the fact that he doesn't write and/or come up with the stuff we all think is "ZOMG amazing!"

I mean, watch the Paley interview. He specifically says that his thing is the Monster of the Week, jump scares, and mini-horror movies. Watch the movie 'Boogeyman' >> His writing is sub par. The concepts for Sam and Dean were taken from the book "On the Road" (main characters: Sal and Dean), and they weren't even put into place until Kripke's original idea of a reporter was rejected.

It's the other writers and producers of SPN that do all the amazing character driven stuff that we love. I mean, I'm not saying I don't appreciate Kripke and what he does for the show! He's very attentive to fans and really looks into what we like/dislike, but he's the guy who likes all the lame moments like badly done jump scares and lots of focus on the Monster >>;;

And yet, every new episode, I hear "Kripke is a GOD".

Me: Wuh?

[identity profile] exsequar.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I am so completely with you!! I am more often like DAMN YOU BOB SINGER FOR YANKING OUT MY HEART! Kripke's a cool guy and all, but honestly... yeah. Everything you said.

Although... Kripke DID write Devil's Trap and In My Time of Dying. Both truly spectacular episodes. But I have to be honest and say I doubt that was a one man job at all. Clearly he's learned something since his Boogeyman days, but he's mostly uplifted by the brilliance of the people around him.

Kripke, I love you man, but it's Bob Singer and Sera Gamble whose altars I worship at.

Re: Fandom's worship, basically he's an easy target *shrugs* He's the name put out in front, so it's easy to put all blame/love on him, regardless of whether it's actually his fault or not. Pretty much everything probably gets run by him anyways, so he does have some kind of ultimate control. Gah, i don't know.

*returns to Whedon shrine*

[identity profile] cosmic.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
*sniffles* I think I shall do some self-torture next week and watch parts of season three. If you think THAT'S heart-breaking, I'll raise you Wesley in the just about all the episodes following that, because WAY TO STOMP ON MY HEART UNTIL I CAN'T BREATHE, JOSS.

I love Joss Whedon the best, yo. Kripke's got NUTHIN' on him.

[identity profile] vanya-elda.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Whedon = GOD. THE END.

And actually, if we're not counting the Buffy movie, Angel is the Joss show that had me hook, line, and sinker first. Not Buffy. Angel is just...yeah. It's just...yeah. Awesome. Can't think of another word, LOL.

[identity profile] ilovesn.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
I KNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

That ep was soo sad.

Because you know that angel LOVES cordy

*sighs*

Damn. I miss this show

:D

[identity profile] affectations.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
I know, there is no one like Joss out there, he is a genius and my favourite TV writer. No one else can make you cry and break your heart and at the same time make you proclaim that it is the best TV you've ever seen. And he does it over and over again. Is this the first time you watched 'Couplet'? omg I love that episode and Angel is still one of my favourite TV shows. omg Cordy/Groo and Angel/Cordy and kyrumption! And you know that moment in the bookstore where Wesley is to Angel 'you're like one of those rare books, one of a kind' and the bookstore guy finds two copies of the book? Such a Joss Whedon moment, it always makes me laugh. I love the Wesley arc in s3.

[identity profile] syliasyliasylia.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
Waaaaah! I miss Joss Whedon shows so much!!! *sniffles* Last week I finally bought Angel season five, and I'm planning on rewatching Angel or Firefly soon.

And then, THEN, Wesley writes "The Father will kill The Son" and I'm all !!!! NOT NOW NOT NOW and fade to black and cue flailing. Jesus.
Wesley... oh wesley... Angsty demon hunter!!!

[identity profile] kueble.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
As awesome as Kripke is, I really don't think anything can top the brilliance that is Joss.

Though I'd really like to see them have an all out geek battle for the title of God.

Oh man. Could you imagine how fucking amazing it would be if they ever collaborated on something?

[identity profile] exsequar.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I would kind of cringe at the idea... cause Kripke's nowhere the level Joss is, so what would he bring to it? Not so much amazing in my book, more embarassing for Kripke. Unless they each brought their characters to the table and it was a collaboration that involved Dean and Sam and Faith and Angel and Spike and Lindsey and Willow and Gunn and Wesley and Xander... I'd totally be on board for that ;)

[identity profile] kueble.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, even God needed help sometimes.

Though I would approve of the mixing of fandoms. There needs to be more crossover fic that isn't about Faith and Dean having sex (though there's NOTHING wrong with that). I just want Willow and Sam hanging out and complaining or Xander and Dean trying to pick up chicks.

[identity profile] theamyrlin.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
He totally knows how to yank my heartstrings like its a freaking marionette. And, when I was at comic con last year, I was like 5 ft. away from him while he was talking to someone about art, and even though I had met him way back in 2001, I was still too nervous to say anything. The man rules!

[identity profile] mona1347.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. JOSS WINZ 4EVA THE END.

*wavy hands of Make It So*

[identity profile] vaeltaa.livejournal.com 2006-12-18 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I love that episode dearly. Joss = MASTER OF TV.

[identity profile] dove95.livejournal.com 2006-12-19 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, Joss wins hands-down. And, what's great about him and his writing and direction is that at one point, practically every character is slashworthy with every other character.

No one else can be Joss. There will be other brilliant shows, BUT NO ONE ELSE WILL EVER BE JOSS.
