Things Wot Make Me Grin Like an Idiot

1. Academic success - I just went to pick up the draft of my final paper for America in Black and White from my professor, and he was in his office when I got there. What he said about my paper blew my mind! The comment at the back starts, "I think you know this is a great paper. It seems thoroughly revised and proofread already." When I was talking to him about it, he said "You could hand this into a graduate class and it would stand on its own, no question." He further said that there was really no point in me revising it further, and that I could just hand it in then as my final draft. He talked about how clearly I laid out my argument in the introduction, and how skillfully I made use of all the material we've used in our class.

The funny thing is... I wrote this paper in about 3 hours the night before it was due. I had been thinking about it and taking notes for a few days, but I was just blocked on actually writing it up to the last moment. It felt like pulling teeth - I really didn't feel like I had a direction or a cogent argument to make. When I finished it, I was so relieved that I just gave it a quick glance over and printed it out. It's really astonishing to me that what I thought was substandard work from myself, done hastily and with much stress, would be praised so highly by my professor. I mean, I knew I was being a bit hard on myself... but I definitely did not expect this. Wow. So yes, grinning like an idiot :)

2. Pretty slashy boys - So while I was walking home from that, still grinning idiotically, there were these boys playing frisbee on the green, and they seemed to be finishing up and walking away, and it ended up that two of them were holding it between them, and it was like they were holding hands through the frisbee. I clearly heard their friend go "Awww... it's love!" Grinning even more idiotically! So adorable.

3. WINCHESTER DAY!!!! - I watched Nightshifter at work to get myself in the mood, and oh, BOYS! *draws a trillion hearts* I love forever and ever amen :D Can't wait for tonight! Yay!

About the paper: I find that the work I feel worst about gets the best grades. I wrote a western civ paper last quarter in two days and knew that it was horrible. I felt like I had nothing to say and was just repeating and rephrasing my original argument but I hated it too much to revise it.

I got an A+ on it, and a "gradute level work" comment.

It's always disconcerting to find that the things we hate are apparently the best. Congratulations on your paper!

*grins like an idiot with you*

*laughs* Thank you! I'm not quite sure how to explain this phenomenon. I don't want to sound all nose-in-the-air or anything but... it can't be true for everyone, you know? I think that really smart people, who just write well naturally, seem to be able to whip out good writing on the fly, and sometimes overthinking it damages the process.

Bwahaha, that's how my school papers always were, too--the less time I spent on them, the better grade I got. I'm sure there's some sort of scientific study lying there about human's ability to think.

Mmm, slashy boys. So cute.

Hee, I think there must be something to this phenomenon!

I slash the boys around me so much. It's really quite sad. ^_^

That reminds me of an essay I wrote about Hamlet in my senior year. I kept procrastinating and ended up writing it the evening before. My teacher loved it so much that she felt the need to read it to the entire class. =)

I'm seeing a trend! This has definitely happened to me before. Perhaps there is something to be said for procrastination... *g*

Your icon is SO PRETTY. *licks Shep*

I always use it as an excuse for procrastinating other things... =)

Well, Sheppard is pretty, so how can an icon of him be bad? =)

1. That's awesome

2. That's adorable

3. YAY! Less than two hours to go... (and I've been home sick for 2 days. We watched nearly all of S1 -- except for a few episodes -- before Ronnie (my 6yo) got fed up and was like "can we watch Frodo instead?")

Thank you! ^_^

HEE! How ADORABLE! Sounds like you're raising a wonderful little fanboy there! I mean, shame on him for rejecting the Winchesters, but still! How cute :D:D

Um. I totally need to see a John/Rodney playing frisbee fic now. With like... John's shirt hitching up and showing a line of stomach and Rodney being all "this is inappropriate even though I don't know why it is".

*looks pointedly at you and waggles eyebrows*

[identity profile] exsequar.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
HEE! That is such a cute idea, n'aw! Like, they're on a visit to earth and John wrangles Rodney into going to a park with him and he brings his frisbee and Rodney's all "I'm not a DOG, do I look like a dog to you?" and John just throws it at him and it falls at Rodney's feet and John laughs at him because he didn't catch it, and Rodney's competetive and must-be-brilliant-at-everything streak kicks in so he starts trying to throw it and he kinda sucks at first because dude that's HARD and he gets all frustrated and John is having the time of his life and they play for hours until Rodney's pretty damn good and they're flushed and sweaty and laughing and the sunlight is fading from the sky.

....I might need to write that.
