You guys, I am SO PLEASED by Castle! More of you need to be watching this show! It's fabulous in so many ways. Michelle and I just finished episode 7, why isn't there moooooore? I'm particularly enamored of Esposito and Ryan who continue to be TOTAL BOYFRIENDS, and Kate who totally knows how to hold her own with the boys. And of COURSE Castle (Nathannnnn) with his ridiculous faces and windshield-wipering of "perps", ahahaha. And Alexis who continues to be made of shiny win. I LOVE! \o/ Is there fic yet?? :D

I committed a pretty impressive double fail tonight. I knocked over a phonebook which knocked a mug off our kitchen counter, shattering it on the floor. I went to pick up the biggest piece and the edge sliced RIGHT into my left ring finger, leaving a deeeeeep cut that just would not stop bleeding! Seriously. Failx2.

Continuing to love my Supernatural S2 rewatch. "It takes two to, you know... have hardcore sex." :DDDD

Errr. That's all!
exsequar: (SN Bros love the whole of you)
Michelle and I watched Castle episodes 3 and 4 last night. It is SO SO precious!!! We squeal and clap frequently with delight. Nathan is, of course, an absolute vision of goofy adorableness and sass. Any other actor would be pretty obnoxious as that character, but Nathan makes him endearing and hilarious instead. His FACE! Our other favorite part is his daughter, who sasses right back at him. Their relationship (plus the grandma) gives the show a really fun unique twist on other cop shows. The plots are kind of hilariously twisty, but they're fun to watch. And the woman who plays Beckett is really growing on us - she gives as good as she gets from Nathan most of the time, and she has some truly awesome skeptical faces. She's also written quite well, I think - strong without being overly "butch," occasionally girly, snarky and smart. I also love the other cops - Esposito and Ryan, I think. They have such a bromance going on in the background, it's hilarious! Basically I love it and I really really hope it keeps going. NATHAN!

I also watched Chasing Liberty, that movie with Matthew Goode and Mandy Moore, this weekend. Um... it was terrible. I can't remember the last time I willingly subjected myself to such truly awful writing. And Matthew and Mandy were both overacting, probably a combination of trying to give a totally empty script substance and a bad director. So, uh, even their combined pretty absolutely could not save it. I mean, of course I appreciated shirtless Matthew and tight-tshirt Matthew and wet Matthew, of course I did. ;) But that doesn't change that that's 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back! Ha. Oh well.

In continuing my SPN nostalgia kick, I just watched Everybody Loves a Clown. Omg Winchesters! ;_____; Dean's woobie little lip! Sam's busted up face and truly awful hair! The minivan! "Apparently clowns kill!" ELLEN AND ASH AND JO!!!!!!! I can't even express how much I wish they had kept them around. Their story (even Jo's crush on Dean!) feels so so much more organic and true to the world of hunting than Ruby or Bela ever did. Ellen and the Roadhouse set up such a fascinating connection to the whole of the rest of the hunting world, not to mention another person who remembers John Winchester. She was such a warm, gritty, motherly figure in their lives, and I really wish they had kept her around to keep them grounded. I just wish the show had kept that tone in general - Sam and Dean as part of an underground community of outcasts who trawl the dusty roads of America laying waste to evil sonsabitches.

I hate that I've become sad/bitter about our show. It's not how I approach anything, ever, but my love affair with the early Winchesters was so passionate that I can't help but feel their loss acutely. But I am truly enjoying going back and reliving their story, both through the episodes and fic. Sigh, SamandDean. I love you so. ♥

Happy Monday, flist! It's cold and rainy here, which after the 70+ sunny weekend we had is quite a rude shock. Garfield would be entirely unsurprised - Mondays hate the world! I am exhausted, so I'm going to go into lab, hopefully finish early, and then come home for a NAP. This prospect excites me greatly. <33

I haven't been around my computer much today, but when I was? I've been spending my time reading through all of my old Supernatural entries, from the end of season 2 backwards.

One word: SIGH.

An irony: I was super optimistic about season 3, but terrified about season 2. And we all know how THAT panned out.

It's been a really bittersweet walk down memory lane. My participation in Supernatural fandom was so rich and layered and joyous. There were dozens of people around who were ready to engage me in thoughtful conversations about the Winchesters at any time of day. After every episode I made an epic and analytical assessing post - I was thinking every single time, about every single nuance of Sam and Dean. I would watch an episode as it aired, download it at 1 AM or whenever it came online, watch it again in the morning before class, and usually watch it again when I got home. I was completely enthralled by these characters and the fandom, and I miss that joy so much. I've had joy in fandoms since, but never one with such depth and texture. (I was also MUCH more interesting then. No wonder my readership's gone way down!)

My favorite post that I've stumbled upon is a thing I started where I just had people leave comments with Supernatural quotes. We ended up with about 100, and I don't know about other people, but I'm pretty sure I came up with the majority of mine from memory. It's a great blast from the past, all of the highlights of seasons 1 and 2, so take a look if you're feeling nostalgic like me!

Fitting perfectly into this mood, this weekend I get to see MONA!!!!!!!!! [livejournal.com profile] mona1347 is my big sister, my mentor, my guiding light, and I met her through Supernatural fandom. ♥ I'm going down to DC for my friend Thomas's birthday, then I'm staying the night and going to Mona's place for lunch and some hi-def Supernatural nostalgia. I am exceedingly, exceedingly excited! \o/

I'm trying to decide what old episode I want to watch right now. I think I've decided on Playthings.

Oh, today we went to the mall to buy a present for Thomas, and I ended up picking up the first season of Mad Men for $20! Impulse buy ftw! I've been meaning to watch the show for a while and this was much easier than downloading. I also got a squishy keychain of the Watchmen doomsday clock, yellow with a splash of human bean juice. Awesome.

I haven't caught up on my flist, so you're all probably talking about these already, but some great interviews came out with Ben Edlund, Jensen, and Kripke today on Whedonopolis! Ben is hilarious and wacky, I kind of love him. This is my favorite thing though, from our one and only Ackles:
What in the world is Dean’s problem with California, calling it “the wuss state”? What’s up with that?

JA: Dean calling California “the wuss state”? I don’t remember that!

Yeah, in the episode “Everybody Loves a Clown”, Dean is arguing with Sam and he tells him, “I thought that after Dad died, you were going back to the wuss state,” meaning California, “and now you wanna take this on.”

JA: Oh, okay! That’s right! And this is why, because in his mind, California took his brother away from him, so he has a bit of problem with that. It’s like, (becoming Dean) “You know, I had to drive all the way to California to drag your butt back to what you should have been doing. You never should have gone there in the first place.” It’s what it represents, the thing that took his brother away. It’s sappy, but in his mind, he’s like, (as Dean again) “Stupid state!” (laughs)

AWWWWW. So sweet!! I mean, fangirls have known this since day one, but I love hearing Jensen say it like that. N'aw. WINCHESTERS! (ETA: I know that the interviewers got the quote wrong. Dean was saying "Wuss State," referring to Stanford. But what Jensen says is super sweet nonetheless :))

My other favorite part:
Okay, and since we’re talking music, what in blazes is Sam’s problem with Dean’s music? And given the chance, what music would Sam play?

EK: (laughs out loud) We have interesting debates about that all the time; about what Sam’s music would be, and you know, I hope that Sam listens to whatever cool modern music is. I don’t know any of them because I don’t listen to anything after 1980, so, you know… Green Day, I guess? I don’t know! Who is cool these days? Is Green Day cool? What band is cool these days?

Maybe Red Hot Chili Peppers…

EK: Yeah, so he listens to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Fall Out Boy and maybe The Killers? I am so a stranger in a strange land when it comes to those bands that that’s why you never hear Sam’s soundtrack, cos I don’t know that music and I’d choose the wrong songs. All my friends call me “Old Man Kripke” because I don’t listen to any bands after 1980; that’s why Dean’s music always wins out, because I hate so much modern music that I can’t bear to listen to it in the editing room. (laughs)

AHAHAHA! SAM LISTENS TO GREEN DAY AND FALL OUT BOY, GUYS! IT'S CANON!!! Hahahahaha.... ohhhh Kripke *draws pink sparkly hearts* I love that with his very limited modern music knowledge, those are the names he pulls out of the air. AWESOME. It's not very accurate, IMO, to who Sam is, but I'm not complaining! Now I'm just picturing Sam hollering "THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES, EVEN THOUGH THEY WEREN'T SO GREAT!" and flailing his ridiculous hair around and oh man. So much love guys, I can't even express it. And I am ALSO picturing Sam standing next to Pete Wentz and literally towering over him. Ahahaha. BEST. EVER.

Also, why does Kripke insist on summing up the show by saying "Two guys with chainsaws in the trunk, fighting monsters, GO!"?? There aren't any chainsaws! There never have been, except that conjured guy in Tall Tales! Kripke, you are a silly ridiculous man, and I kind of love you. Also, I find it interesting that in talking about how he liked the standalones of S2, he picks out Hollywood Babylon to mention specifically, because in my opinion that was the weakest of the S2 standalones, pretty much. It was really self-indulgent though, so I guess it makes sense Kripke would love it :P Aaaand he says that the S2 mythology was too complicated, that you needed a flowchart to follow it, and I'm like... if you're twelve o.O It really wasn't that complicated at all, lol. Ah well, perhaps my obsessive devotion makes me more adept at following all the details, or something. I love you Kripke honest!

Meme snagged from fragglebo:

What five character deaths affected you the most? (SPOILERS for Serenity, HP 5, BtVS S2, SPN S2, and BSG S3)

Get out the tissues. )

I FINISHED FARSCAPE! :O I did a mini marathon last night, plowing through the end of S4, then Brad drove down and we watched the miniseries this morning/afternoon. It was amazing! I oddly don't have that much to say, but... I loved it. It was satisfying, fun, exhilarating, unpredictable, and all around one hell of a ride. John and Aeryn are so in love it makes me ache, and everyone is just so wonderful *squishes them all*

Brad is the adorable gay guy that I have mentioned before, and want to know what's AWESOME? He's a SLASHER! Hahaha! Specifically of Braca/Scorpius, which is HILARIOUS. He said things like "Braca was totally jealous when Scorpius and Sikozu were doing their thing" and "Look who's saving Braca now!" and many other things and oh man. I almost broke something laughing. FANTASTIC.

So, um. That's that! It was amazing, and I'm so glad I experienced it. Thank you to everyone who forced me to watch it :)

I am bored and cranky and need to be entertained.

So I bring pictures to induce giddy flailing and squee!

You have a few options... (i.e., SGA or Panic! or SPN!) )

Whichever ones float your boat.... go! Flail! Ramble on at me about unrelated things (or related!) that make you happy! I just need the squee, guys. Help me out :)

Winchesters! In prison orange! But let's see what they're up to...

I just have no words )

HEEE. You're kidding me right? Kidding me. Dean looks all smug and Sam looks reeeeeeally admiring. Oh hee. Now I have a companion to this icon! ♥

This is from a site with a whole bunch of episodic photos, many I haven't seen before: Sergei Photo. Link thanks to [livejournal.com profile] killerweasel.

I do believe that FNL 1x16 Black Eyes and Broken Hearts just went in my top five faves of the season. What a wonderful, powerful episode. I cried! I did!

Spoilery thoughts )

So I've been waiting to start thinking about my next music vid until the Supernatural season was over, and now it is, so I have begun! I finally downloaded Final Cut Pro, and it's very similar to Premiere so my learning curve shouldn't be that steep. Aaaaand I think I've decided on the song "Saving Grace" by Tom Petty. It's a really awesome song with a great beat to vid to, and some beautiful lyrics that just SCREAM "Winchester" to me. I've been struggling with my POV choice and thanks to some brainstorming with [livejournal.com profile] shinetastic I think I decided to split up the vid between Sam and Dean's POV, taking a look at how they've seen each other at different points in this season. You can read and listen to lyrics and a streaming download here. Yay! I do love vidding :D

I forgot to mention that I saw "Waitress" in a theater in the city with my girls on Thursday! It was WONDERFUL. The movie had such a beautiful heart, such a powerful emotional center in the character played by Keri Russell. Her performance was fantastic. It's laugh out loud funny, but also a very human story of suffering and strength. Absolutely gorgeous, all around. And our darling Nathan is sweet as PIE *beams* With his bumbling charm and his big blue eyes and oh oh. I love him so MUCH. Robin and I probably pissed off the whole theater with our squeals of "NATHAN!" Heehee. Oops? I love, I love a lot. If you get a chance to see it, DO. I'm going again with my mom later this week :D

Whee!

*lies dead on the floor* I FINALLY caught up on my flist. It took roughly 6 hours. And I got to SKIP=480! Daaamn. Y'all sure are a chatty bunch.

I read about a trillion finale reactions - didn't comment on any, I'm sorry, but SKIP 480! *flail* But it was really interesting seeing the range of reactions. There wasn't a whole lot of consensus, actually. Pretty much every part of the episode had both its lovers and its detractors. Which I completely understand. And I'm going to toss my own thoughts on the heap.

First, one general note - if you love this show, I don't understand hating this episode. I really don't. I always hate episode reviews that are simply "THAT SUCKED" because it feels like the easy way out to me. That said, this is not a squee-only zone - all the squee has been more than covered, honestly, and I want to be critical and dig a little deeper. Which has also been done, but you know. Whatever :) Warning - this got pretty long!

SPOILERS for the SPN finale )
exsequar: (SN Boys so happy together)
Hi I'm back!

*FLOPS*

I'm exhausted. Very, very exhausted. As I'm sure you all know, Jensen and Jared were punks and didn't show up at the Upfronts. In fact, no one I was remotely interested in seeing did. Sigh. But I DID randomly run into a college friend there, David, completely out of the blue, so that was hilarious and awesome and he was great.

But of course the best thing is that I had a fucking ROCKING time with Robin, Mel, and Boadie. And it was really great to see Jaida and Dani! I will talk more about it when I'm not practically dead.

And oh god the finale ohgodohgodohgod. I LOVE OUR BOYS THE END. I will also talk more about THAT when I've finished rewatching. *FLAIL FLAIL*

Also YAY SEASON THREE! :)

So... what have I missed? *facepalm*
