I've been floating on a cloud of YAY I'M IN JASON'S LAB YAY YAY YAY! Unfortunately, my current reality isn't quite that awesome and consists of fucking up experiments and a really really shitty group project that I honestly don't know how well we're going to do on. Ugh. So thank god he said yes or else I would be an utter wreck right now. I'm just clinging to it - I'm IN JASON'S LAB! Officially! He even sent out an email today about new lab photos and I was on the email! :DDDDDD

Today has not been a decent Saturday of any kind. I woke up, ate breakfast, went to lab from 2 to 8 PM, ugh, came home, went to grocery store, and worked on aforementioned group project, in the process stressing myself out so badly that I chewed on my fingernails until they all ache and it actually hurts to type. WONDERFUL. Now it's 1:30 AM and I'm exhausted but trying to get through Doctor Who without falling asleep because OMG IT'S AMAAAZING!!!

Tomorrow should be nice though - brunch in Detroit with one branch of my family, then back to Ann Arbor for dinner with another branch! Good times and good food. :D

Although that means no time to work on STUPID PROJECT ARGH. The only good thing about this project is that the one other person in the group actually doing work is this insanely pretty guy. I mean, he would not be out of place on television for us to swoon over. The other day he came to class having not shaved and he had the most exquisite stubble, like Ron Liv's 5 o'clock shadow, and I was captivated. It was kind of a problem. He also has these super blue eyes with long black lashes and a smile to die for... unf. Unfortunately, he's kind of not really my type at all, being from Connecticut and you can TELL. Like, he should be a lawyer with the way he talks sometimes. Gah, I don't know. He sure is purty to look at. And we commiserate about how awful our group is, so that's fun. :P

Random question: how do we feel about the new Youtube layout? Overall I feel it's quite functional, but why did they get rid of the starred rating system? Also, there's no way to tell how many comments there are on a video. They're strange changes that I don't quite get! Overall it does look more streamlined though.

I've been reading a lot of my old entries about just before Dublin and then during. That encompasses my slide into bandom, which is hilarious to watch - did you know at one point I genuinely, honestly thought Gerard and Brendon were gay? LOL. Oh, naive little self. I also thought Frank was the lead guitarist of MCR, gasp! Sacrilege. And it's weird to read myself squealing about Ryan when I really don't like him anymore. Anyway, the beginning of Dublin stuff is even more interesting, to see how different I was. It's very pronounced, actually. Which I knew, but it's awesome to have LJ as a concrete record of that. I hope I keep my LJ archives for my whole life, it's such a potent piece of personal history.

And I need some advice - does anyone have any ideas on the best way to get from either NYC or Philly to Cleveland without a car? I've checked plane, bus, and train, and everything either has wacky layovers (ATLANTA?!) or detours or just takes bloody forever, and it just seems so STUPID. Fucking American public transportation. Or the lack thereof. So any thoughts as to ways I could work that out so it isn't soul-crushingly horrible?

Finally, in Twitter Continues To Be Awesome, Brian Schechter responded to my Twitter-stalking for once. And I just - ahahaha, what.

Love him! He's such a dork. I totally get why he and the MCR boys got along like gangbusters. ♥

Augh so tired. Happy Easter, to all who celebrate! I hope you have lovely days.

HEE, BOYS!!!!!!

I LOVE waking up to new fannish stuff on LJ! New Perspective is HILARIOUS, oh my god. And hot, hee. Those are two GQ MOTHERFUCKERS, I must say! When they took off the sunglasses though, I squeaked a little and went "HI BOYS". Brendon, I'm v. fond of your eyes. And the end! THE END! Heeeee plus OM NOM NOM. Ugh, LOVE.

I'm really pleased that when I saw news of this I actually squealed and sealclapped, because it's been a long time since anything Panic! or Panic related did that for me. But I love when I can get super excited about a band or show or what have you, and I'm so glad for that to be back! BRING ON THE NEW ALBUM BOYS! ♥♥♥

Also, YAY I CAN HAS THE USED AND DRIVE A TICKETS!!!!!! \o/ I've listened to Drive A's album 20 times in the last two days, and I've tweeted with their guitarist, and I am ALMOST MORE EXCITED TO SEE THEM THAN THE USED! But obviously still pumped for Jepha and co. *g* YAY CONCERTS! Jennifer, do you want to go??? The presale is going now but there will be more tickets later. I got a Detroit GA ticket obviously!

Flisty mcflist! I need your help. I have recently downloaded or borrowed a small stack of movies, and given how limited my free time is, I'm going to have to ration them. I need your help deciding which is the most important! I'm leaning toward Fast & Furious because I haven't seen it (muscle cars! Michelle Rodriguez! ....oh and maybe some hot guys? idk) but I want your ~opinions!

Theory: the lyric "you come around because I love your face" is a not-so-subtle response to all the fangirls (myself included) whose most frequent response to Brendon Urie is "omg Bden, your FACE"? It's just a fangirly exclamation that seems to be most often applied to Mr. Urie himself, and the lyric itself is super bizarre otherwise (not that the song makes much sense in general :P).

It's a super fucking catchy line though. I am very excited to hear this album! My favorite thing is the abundance of cheerful, melodic electric guitar. An easy way to my heart! (Do we know who's playing bass on this recording? Was it before they went their separate ways? I mean... we all know that Brendon could be a band ALL ON HIS OWN, even without Spencer, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was doing it all except the drums, but I am curious.)

I think I need a new Panic! icon, i.e. one of Brendon and Spencer.

My two cents on the Other Half: I think the Young Veins is a strange and vaguely disturbing name (veins are kind of squicky okay, despite my spending a whole summer taking them straight out of rats and studying them). I like the song fine, but it still sounds really retro in a pretty derivative way, and that was what displeased me about Pretty Odd. I do think that Ryan's getting better at singing, but I just... he'll never be a Brendon. So... it's a good song, but not my favorite. We'll see. (I do think, however, that these two songs highlight in neon orange with a few spotlights and wailing sirens the totally real musical rift between the two halves of Panic. I just can't imagine the people who made those two songs sitting in the studio and trying to make music together. So... it makes sense. I just hope they're on good terms.)

I AM excited about the new Cobra album. Two weeks eeeee!

The new The Used video for Blood on my Hands is disturbing in all the best ways. The cinematography is unsettling and fantastic, and Bert is just as insane as usual! I just wish the camera made a little more love to his bandmates, but what can you do. I also like the twist that he's a serial killer who kills serial killers! HELLO DEXTER. Hahaha. Made of awesome. I'm still faintly disappointed about the album as a whole, but I do like it, and a couple songs have really grown on me (particularly Empty With You).

Bandom is AWESOME right now, you guys. MCR SHOWS IN LA THIS WEEK WHICH MEANS PHOTOS AND VIDEOS AND REPORTS AND DEFINITELY NEW MUSIC AND EEEEEEEEEE. They're still my most MOST favorites. :> (Oh, and there's THIS. Gerard Way, you HYPNOTIZE ME.)

Today in the Life of Anne: my professor/PI called me SMART. *beams*

Completely unrelated piece of news that might be of interest to some: Jaida Jones and Dani Bennett's new book is out! It's called Shadow Magic and you can get it from Amazon. However, I looked up some reviews and... the book is about different characters! :( It's a sequel to Havemercy but entirely different people are the focus. I'm rather disappointed, I must admit - Hal! Royston! Thom! Rook! I loved them so much and needed more. But I trust them a whole lot as authors, so I'm obviously still going to pick it up. I'm just kind of surprised.

Merlin Rec!

Sometimes I Forget I'm Still Awake by [livejournal.com profile] paperclipbitch, Arthur/Gwen, PG, 4000 words, big spoilers for 1x12
An absolutely gorgeous, quiet little story about Gwen and her sadness, her complicated fondness for Arthur, and his complicated fondness in return. I can't say more because of spoilers, but if you've seen 1x12 you know what this is about. And it's beautiful. There are some lovely Merlin and Morgana moments as well. Just a wonderful story, and I hope the show does as much justice by Arthur and Gwen.

And now, The Hot People Meme! Basically an excuse to picspam prettiness. Who am I to say no? Going with the random sixteen number because 10 just isn't enough! :) I imposed a strict 5 pictures per person rule or else this would have taken me HOURS. (ETA: Okay, so it took hours anyway. WHOOPS. Pleeeease take a look? Haha.)

Come see the pretty! Something for everyone, I promise. )

Wow, I... essentially wasted most of the afternoon on that. *FACEPALM* Ummm at least it's very pretty? Sigh.

It's been snowing allll day, it's quite lovely but keeping me from going and doing a couple errands. Classes start tomorrow and it'll be nice to have something to do. So in the meantime I'm basically just being a blob!

Lalala.

[livejournal.com profile] enoughoflove reminded me that I haven't posted this yet, so here it is! My picture with the PANIC BABIES!! Along with [livejournal.com profile] imntsayin (left) and [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane (middle) :D :D

And yes, I really am that short.

Favorite things: Brendon's FIIIINGERS curled around my shoulder ♥__♥ Both me and Bden wearing Chucks and skinny jeans. Bden's blazer, which is ridiculously attractive in person. Spencer's little crossed legs. Ryan Ross's hungover little face. Jon Walker's thumbs up. Oh yeah, THEM. ♥
exsequar: (Girlyrock - Panic! - Snuggletime)
OOF. *collapses*

I am sore, exhausted, and SO HAPPY!!! PANIC BAAAAAABIES! I kind of love their faces, you guys.

It was pretty much the MOST PERFECT concert experience I could have asked for for my first Panic show! Essentially the entire internet was there, and I met some fantastic new girls and hung out with old friends for the first or fourth time, which was awesome. I latched on to some folks and ended up with MEET AND GREET because Zach is (not so) secretly a squishy teddybear. Jon gave me a high five when I told him it was my first Panic show :D :D They all signed my tattered ticket because I didn't have anything else. And I got smished between Brendon and Spencer for my picture with [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane and [livejournal.com profile] imntsaying!! UGH THEM ♥__♥

THEN, even though we were late getting into the pit, we got ONE FROM BARRIER! Over on the side with Jonwalker and BDEN'S DRUMS! I don't even knowwwww, SO MUCH PERFECT. Cab babies were fun, PWTs entertaining, Dashboard a little meh except the songs I knew, but then PAAAAAAAAANIC NOMG. I just. &THEM;!!!

I had gotten separated from a bunch of awesome people by sneaking in to Meet and Greet, but by marvelous chance i managed to find ALL of them after the show and smish them goodbye, including [livejournal.com profile] bluejbird, [livejournal.com profile] summertea, and [livejournal.com profile] chaneen! It was so lucky! And then as the wonderful icing on the cake, I got to my car to find there was no attendant at the parking lot, as there hadn't been when I arrived, and no ticket on my car, so HAY, FREE PARKING! It was supposed to be $20 and only a block from the venue! SCOOOORE. \o/

And now, 150 miles and 2 hours 20 minutes later, I am HOME. My ears are vibrating and my back is killing me and my stomach protesting its "dinner" of Swedish Fish but OMG SO WORTH ITTTT.

YAY. :DDDDD

SLEEP NAO.
exsequar: (Girlyrock - MCR - Ray Bob too cool)
Just a quick little post before sleepies.

I have SPN downloaded but have not yet watched! I never got back to my live-watching schedule after Dublin, especially since I don't, uh, actually have TV in my apartment! I hear good things though :)

I'm reading papers my putative PhD advisor has published, and it's actually really encouraging. I'm reading her methods section and finding that I have first hand experience with almost everything she's doing. There's a huge organic synthesis component, and I'm VERY familiar with that, since it's the major subject of my independent and summer research thus far. There's also protein purification and assay, which I've done in my biochem class this semester, albeit not very extensively, but I have experienced it! Then she does drug tests in rats, and while I haven't done that, I have worked with live rats (which were then, um, not live so I could study their intestinal veins...) during my summer at Michigan State University. This makes me realize how truly blessed I am with the extent of experience I've been exposed to as an undergraduate, and actually really excited to move forward with this PhD!

My friend Brad sent me a Youtube link to a S Club 7 video. LOLZ. 90s flashbacks!!! The dancing is SO LOLAWFUL. Heeeee.

Still minorly addicted to Britney. Send help.

Bandom was fairly AWESOME today. Northern Downpour video -> precious AND beautiful. I spent most of it wanting to molest country-boy Bden or tell Ryan to stop squinting :P Bob Bryar's blog -> MADE OF WIN AND PUPPIES. Actually, hilariously, his writing style reminded me a lot of Dara's. BUT ANYWAY. New puppy! He shot up his garage and it was fun! BOB BRYAR WHAT. His faaaace. I love how he was going to tell us about the other boys but then, like, doesn't feel like it. AHAHA. Ilhim lots, not gonna lie. I CANT WAIT FOR THESE BOYS TO BE IN OUR LIVES EVERY DAY AGAIN. The texting updates are going to be ENDLESS FOUNTS OF JOY AND LULZ, I can just tell!! <33333 (Frank is going to be LETHAL with that, ahahaha.)

ETA: AND what might be the BEST TAI TV EVERRRRR. Fan-written BODYSWAP. Bill and Sisky! NOMG! THE PRECIOUSES. And Travis of WTK tells them the secret! I AM LOLING SO HARD. Bill and Sisky's FAAAAACES. Hahahaha boooooys <3

Obama continued to be DEEPLY AWESOME. And McCain continued to ride the failtrain into the sunset. Highlights:
  • Rachel Maddow interviews Obama. I REALLY love how he comes across here. Rachel pushes the flaming liberal thing a bit, and he brings it back to the middle with sense, compassion and extremely intelligent assessment of the state of our country. He doesn't want to alienate the entire Republican party because it's NOT the whole party at fault. It's a "incompetent subset" that has "kidnapped the party". And to a large extent he's right. It's for just this reason that he's been able to cross party lines everywhere - he didn't start out partisan. He started out American. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH.
  • McCain rally in Ohio a pretty spectacular faceplant. For one thing: 4,000 of the 6,000 in attendance had to be bussed in from surrounding schools. !!! And for another, McCain calls on Joe the Plumber to stand up.... but he's not there! WHOOOOPS! It's hilarious, go watch!

And FiveThirtyEight.com continues to rock my socks, but that's not news :) Lots of nasty stuff flying around, but that's to be expected. Obama seems to be largely rising above!

FIVE DAYS.
exsequar: (Girlyrock - Panic! - Boys will be boys)
So I should probably do some work and/or eat some food today, but the internet has just been TOO AWESOME! Also, it is raining and gray, which always fails to motivate me.

  1. PANIC BABIES AND THEIR FACES.

I just. WHAT. THEY MADE IT THEMSELVES!!! With the dancing and the FURRY and the clapping and the lipstick and the giggles and the falling over and the DANCING. I don't even know what to DO with them! UGH BOYS HEARTS. I get to see them in a WEEK omg!!!!! Possibly on barrier in a massive arena, during which I might DIE, but it will be a happy death indeed! :D
  2. Fall Out Boys nomg! America's fucking Suitehearts! It's SO GOOD. All loud and catchy with the most delicious guitar riffs, but slow and beautiful too, and NOM NOM NOM. It's the kind of song that makes me dance around my room ridiculously and play air guitar, then switch to hairbrush microphone for the beautiful verses. <333333
  3. Also, Guy Ripley on the set of I Don't Care! I LOLED. My favorite part is Ryland and Gabe reenacting the "Charlie bit me!!!" video, which me and my Dublin girls LOVE RIDICULOUSLY, so I appreciated that shout out :D
  4. I skipped over to The Used's Myspace to see if there was any stuff from their new album, and they had a link to a teaser, but the LINK DIDN'T WORK D: However, it did take me to a video director's website, where I found the video for Against Me!'s "Borne on the FM Waves of the Heart", which is definitely my favorite song off the album New Wave. I didn't know who the female guest vocalist was, but it's Tegan or Sara! It's a beautiful vid, and I have gained a new appreciation for the very attractive Against Me! lead singer :D (Note to self: find out his name!)
  5. Saturday's a slow day in politics, but the headline at Huffington is about how the Republicans and particularly the McCain camp are completely divided over Palin. Methinks you can't win an election if half of the campaign staff doesn't support the other half of the ticket. JUST SAYIN'. Meanwhile, at 538, Sean continues to abscond with my heart over and over. Today he wrote up a bit on North Dakota and why it's so ridiculously tight for the first time in, well, ever. ♥ NINE DAYS!!
  6. Being back in love with Supernatural is KIND OF AWESOME. The past two episodes have been exercises in fantastic lolarity. And I must say - Jensen Ackles is a fucking REVELATION. He bounces between heartwrenching drama and gutbusting humor with such astonishing ease. His little wide-eyed scared face is kind of my favorite thing ever ever <333 The new promo shots are also making me happy (inmypants) - the original post with the HQ seems to have been locked, but UGH LOOK AT THEM. With the cheekbones and the forearms and the eyes and the body language and I just. OM NOM NOM. (They live together!!! *expires*)

*deep breath* Phew! It's been a long time since I've been so spazzy about fandom. I totally didn't even mention Gerard namedropping Alfonso Cuaron for the Umbrella Academy movie (!!!!) or claiming that he wouldn't survive the Zombiepocalypse (SADFACE!)! TOO MUCH AWESOME, WORLD. I don't have TIME. I have lab reports and and... okay, well, just lab reports right now. Which is kind of awesome :D
exsequar: (FNL Clear eyes full hearts (cant lose))
Obama was AWESOME! \o/ I mean, hearing him speak was great but not that different from watching the DNC speech. However, being a part of that massive crowd that was so in tune with what he was saying? That was really something special. SO MANY PEOPLE SHOWED UP! The line started very early and grew to what I have to guess was between a mile and two long. Thousands of people, curving around and through the park and along our campus, waiting to see this man speak. Probably half of them actually got in, but the speakers were loud enough that I think everyone heard. I did get in because I had friends who had arrived pretty early (I had to do work in the lab, blah etc) so we stood on a hill and watching him speak and gesture and smile. He's such a passionate man! I NEED him to be our president. I definitely had tears in my eyes, because this is a PERSON. A person who loves and feels and cares and dreams. Not a politician in it for himself. Obama is going to help US. And every time I type that sentiment, I think how appropriate it is that US is also the initials of our country. Now if only we could live up to our name. I think he can help us do it.

OBAMA BIDEN 08!!!!

(In much less awesome news, this semester is going to kill me. SEND HALP.)
(Oh and PS. PANIC BABIES ARE ADORABLE the end.)
(PPS. GEEWAY IS A STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE. I KNEW ONE DAY HE WOULD SHOW HIS TRUE COLORS. THE BLACK IS JUST A FACADE. ILHIMMMM.)
(PPPS. Where was Jon?)
