The thing is, I'm not sure Sam will try to leave. clearly he can't actually leave, for the show's sake, but I think he will come to that realization on his own. There will certainly be a near-death situation involved for at least one of the Winchesters, and it will cause some kind of massive shift of mindset for at least Sam, if not all of them. So don't worry, Dean won't be left alone :)
