I just watched The Pillow Book and I need to get my thoughts down while they're still fresh. It was intense, gorgeous, heartbreaking, and gripping... I loved it. It was a bit over my head at some points, especially with all the Japanese or chinese or whatever it was flying around. But I still understood the story, surprisingly well actually. I was never bored (even though Ewan's only in about half the movie... which is a shame, but he's naked for half of that time, so it's all good). It was visually quite stunning, although a little old fashioned, and a little hard to follow with the multiple screens going on at once, but that meant I had to be thinking all the time.
In terms of Ewan... what can I say? The man's a genius. His performances are always so nuanced, so different, so vibrant and fresh and colorful. This was not an exception by any means. Plus, his HAIR in this movie was simply gorgeous! Soft and down to his shoulders, and beautifully golden. I just wanted to run my fingers through it. Mmmm. And did I mention he was naked a lot? A lot. Guh.
( If you haven't seen it and plan to, don't look behind here... )
So if you're a Ewan fan (
tuveuxmoi_) this is definitely a must see.
