After literally a full day of pretty much abject misery, I have arrived in Dublin! The abject misery was mostly because I was crampy and bleeding profusefuly for the entirety of a 4 hour car drive, 2 plane flights totalling 9 hours, and several more hours in airports, causing me to continually curse my ovaries passionately.
BUT NEVERMIND THAT, FOR I AM HERE! \o/ Riding the bus in from the airport was pretty breathtaking - I'm home. It's pretty incredible how familiar everything feels, so much more familiar than any other place in my life. I have so much affection for this city. It's taking some adjusting being back in a decent sized city - Dublin may be dinky as far as metropolitan European capitals go, but there's still millions of buses and taxis dashing hither and thither! I love it.
My trip, however, is not off to the most auspicious start. Emily was supposed to fly in tonight and we were going to have three days together with Cary and Cary's boyfriend Mike. Emily was staying at a hotel downtown with me. However, because of a strike in France, she didn't make it here!! :(((((( It's so unfair because, wtf, France? All she had to do was fly OVER France, but she couldn't even do that. I'm really really sad because I wanted to see her so badly, and because my plans for the next few days centered around her. We were obviously going to spend time with Cary and Mike, but we also wanted to let them have their couple time. Now I'm going to be the awkward third wheel, or finding my own things to do. Which I can do! But I was so, so looking forward to just having a couple days with Emily to be girly, go shopping and eat good food and catch up on life. I haven't seen her since August 2008!!! It's so unfair and I'm really sad. She said she spent a couple hours in the airport just crying, and I totally understand. :((( Stupid life, whyyy!
Luckily I have Irish people that love me, because I told Bren about this on GChat and he immediately offered to come into town from the suburbs just to hang out and have a pint and a chat. I love my Bren! I'm sure things will work out, because hey, I'm in DUBLIN! This was just a terrible way to start the trip. Hopefully I'll get to see her somehow soon - but she'll be in California and I Michigan. Gah. :(
Anywho, I am safe! Don't worry about me! I'm going to venture out and meet Bren and have a BULMERS ON TAP omggg (or maybe even a Kopparberg! SO MANY CHOICES) and a crepe from Lemon for dinner and it will be a good evening. And then I will sleep a million more hours because my four hour nap was nowhere near enough to recover me.
I'll update more because I'm in a hotel with wireless! ♥
