I've only watched a couple episodes of Angel, and I don't really follow Buffy. I know - I suck, but I do remember watching the first and second seasons of Buffy back when they first aired (that was when... 7, 8 years ago? I have no timeline for this show whatsoever) and loving Buffy/Angel so, so much. :D I really think they were my very first OTP. Back when I didn't even know what an OTP was. I also watched 'I Will Remember You', and it broke my heart.
