I had a layout once that was all black and brick red, and while it was gorgeous and I LOVED the header, I got sick of it more quickly than I usually do, because I am looking at my friends list a large portion of the day, and if it's in dark colors like that it gets un-fun pretty fast. I think yours looks great, and with the light grey accents it's not too dark at all. I was thinking more in the direction of like a dark orange where the white is now, or something.
