So 2007 has certainly been an eventful year for me. I don't remember very much remarkable about the first few months - my sophomore year at F&M was less than notable, really. I'm trying to think if anything at all of note occurred. Um. I was taking organic chemistry, which was brilliant, and America in Black & White, also brilliant, but in terms of my personal life it was just kinda hanging out with me besties, Rob and Michelle, and making plans to go to Dublin!!! \o/
The summer was spent wonderfully, doing research at F&M in organic synthesis, which was at times frustrating but overall a great experience - I had loads of fun with Dave and Brandon, and my professor was great. The best part was living in an apartment for the first time, and having my own car for the first time, and basically just kind of learning to be a grown up. Jake was the awesomest roommate I could have ever hoped for (earning himself the title Awesome Roomie), and we had a really great time living together. I taught myself to cook some delicious things, I hung out with the awesomesauce
hebrew_hernia, and I went to see Fall Out Boy (AND TAI... and Cobra) on the Honda Civic Tour, which was FUCKING AMAZING. And then I subsequently fell head first into bandom, which, good times!
Then I had a couple of months to chill at home, the longest I'd spent at home since before I left for college (since I had jobs away from home for both summers), which was a really good chance to just be with my dad and get to know my always-growing sister.
THENNNN I went to Dublin! I landed a gorgeous apartment by luck, with three American girls who are quite nice. I hooked up with the boys in the sci fi club my very first week there, and forged an immediate friendship with all of them. They were lovely and made me feel welcomed and accepted right off the bat. They began to show me life in Dublin, which I took to immediately - mmmm, Guinness :D My bag got stolen, and the same night Colin and I started dating (he was my first boyfriend). The bag thing was really stressful, but Colin made it easier to deal with. He was very sweet and we had a lovely time together, but it eventually became quite apparent that we were really lacking a spark between us, and I had to end it. It was very nice while it lasted though. In the meantime, chemistry lab was quite stressful, but I did good work and got the hang of it eventually. I started doing karate and met Sinead, who is just a darling, and karate turned out to be just such a brilliant choice of activity for me, I absolutely love it. I graded to red belt in December and bought my karate suit (the gi). I continued to hang out with the awesomesauce sci-fi guys, particularly Andy and Barry, who made my life shiny and fun.
And thennnnnn I went to see MCR in London and met Gerard on the street in Dublin. \o/
My dad offered to fly me home for Christmas, so I went and I am so glad I did. I had a lovely, lowkey Christmas with my family. Then I came back to Dublin and immediately flew to Cardiff and have spent four wonderful days with Rachael and her lovely parents. This has been the best way I can imagine to spend a vacation, and a great note to end my year on.
Well that's that! I think overall I'll put this year decidedly in the plus column, though I have a couple times gotten more stressed than I ever have in my life. The good far more than makes up for the bad though, and I think I am overall a far more mature person than I was at the start of the year.
As for 2008, I know two things: I get to spend half of it living in Dublin, and it is the year we finally get rid of Bush. So, here's to 2008! Happy New Year's, my loves! I hope you all ring it in with style :)
