Jul. 25th, 2005 08:32 pmOkay, so here's the list of things I said I needed to talk about.
1) Renaissance Faire I went to today
2) My graduation pressie from my cousins
3) I wanna do that meme where you put your music on shuffle, post a line of lyrics from the songs, and then have people guess. I don't know why. I just think it will be fun.
4) The Serenity trailer and how fuckin excited I am for it, so much so that I changed my journal title. Gasp.
5) Um, ramble about life in general and how I'm terrified about college? That will be fun.
6) War of the Worlds. In short, blegh, but I'll give an in depth opinion later.
I'm adding...
7) Constantine
8) Life as a House
9) Pictures of my new Green Day t-shirt, which Ewan wears in a photoshoot, my henna tattoo, and randomness of myself and my room
Damn, that is a shitload of things to do. Well. Here goes.
In order to draw you in, I'm first going to post a pic of my adorable cousin, Hazel!

How can you resist that face???
1) So I went to my second Ren Faire in as many years. It was quite fun!! In brief anecdotes, so I don't just ramble on aimlessly:
-The one last year was mostly watching little shows; this one was mostly browsing shopping stalls. There were lots of cool ones, with weapons (some awesome daggers that I was really tempted to buy), jewelry, medieval clothing, and other miscellany. I bought a little dark grey box, I have no idea what it's made of but it's heavy. It's got a shield on top with a dragon on it, and then celtic designs all over it. It's very cool.
-This is my bitter story of the day. I was at another stall, looking at their boxes to see what their prices were like (we had find disparate prices on one of the boxes throughout the Faire, ranging from 18 to 35 dollars) and one of the lids slipped out of my fingers and like two inches on to the table. I picked it up and saw that a little chip was out of the side of the top. There followed an awkward interaction with the lady at the booth, ending with me buying it for 10 dollars (down from 15, because she saw that I was sorry...but she was still a bitch about it). Then later, my cousin's husband (is he my cousin-in-law? I don't know) was painting the chip to make it match the rest of the box, and he noticed that next to the chip was a piece that had been broken off and glued back on before... so he thinks that me dropping it just dislodged a piece that had already been broken. I guarantee you that lady knew it. Grrr. I mean, it's a nice little box, same kind as the other one but a different shape and size, so it matches, but still. I'm bitter.
-My sister and I watched this really hilarious performance with these three guys who were two knights and a squire, and they were squabbling and periodically trying to kill each other, and it was all very amusing. The sword fighting was obviously planned but done with metal swords and quite quickly, so that was cool, and impressive. Then at the end they asked the audience to cheer for who they thought should win. And at one point... my sister actually leaped on to her bench and screamed "THE GUY IN THE BLAcK SHOULD WIN!!" although she stumbled across the words and almost fell down and it was all very awkward and embarrassing and I don't know what the hell possessed her o.O But I did like the guy in black too, he was quite attractive and the funnier of the two knights. Then later we saw him, and we had told my cousin the story, so she dragged my sister over to get a picture with him, and I got in the picture too, so as soon as I get those from her I'll show you all :) He was sooo polite and kind and attentive and just really sweet. I was nearly starstruck and he was just some guy doing a little show at a Ren Faire! *laughs*
-The joust! First the "knights" did a sort of "skill" demonstration, trying to get rings on lances, throw spears at targets, and chop cabbages in half, from horse back, but none of them were all too great at it, haha. Especially the spear throwing. But it was still amusing. But then the joust was really intense, they actually both had FULL armor on, on these massive horses, and really hit each other with the lances whose points would explode into the air. Then on the last hit, one of the guys slid backwards and to the side off of his horse, and hit the ground quite hard... he just lay there, and a bunch of people ran over, and they had to slowly help him out of his armor and then support him off to a tent. He could barely walk, he was really unsteady. Probably a concussion. It was a little scary and quite intense. But cool to see too, if that makes sense.
-I saw a henna tattoo booth and suddenly decided I really wanted one. My sister did too. So we both got arm bands. The people were so nice, and the guy who did mine was hilarious (and quite cute as well... yet another mini crush. What is wrong with me?? I think I'm sexually frustrated :P) So here's a pic of mine:

So my cousin and her husband gave me 50 dollars to spend as a graduation present... it was that much because I was Valedictorian. It was really sweet of them. So we went to Best Buy first and I got Life as a House with Hayden christensen because I REALLY wanted to see him in something else, and I've heard good things about it. I watched it last night and loved it, but more on that later. I also got Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, with Leonardo Dicaprio and claire Danes. This one I've seen a couple times, and liked it a *lot*, and lately I've really had the urge to see it because it's Baz! Extension of my Moulin Rouge! love. :)
Then at the bookstore I got two books: Good Omens by Neil Gaimann and Terry Pratchett. I've started it and I really like it... it's quirky and oddball in pretty much exactly the same way as Hitchhikers Guide. It doesn't make me laugh out loud quite as much, but it's still awfully enjoyable. Please tell me I'm not crazy and that a lot of people like this book... I could swear I've seen this in peoples' interests a lot of times. Or is there a TV show or something? o.O The other book is Luck in the Shadows by Lynn Flewellan, first book of Nightrunner. I got it cause
the5thmarauder wouldn't get off my back until I did! ;) Just kidding dear, it sounds really good and I think I'm gonna like it a lot.
I am in love with the first Serenity trailer (not the international one, which I do like, just not quite as much) because it's just got kickass music, and Mal saying "I aim to misbehave" and Jayne's "Let's be bad guys" and then River TOTALLY kicking ass, like, in a majorly seriously way. I'm excited for that scene :D The movie looks like it's going to be amazing, and I REALLY really really hope the show gets picked up again.
War of the Worlds. I didn't like it. I mean, objectively, it was well done and the effects were, obviously, quite good, but by now those are just getting boring. I want some *substance* to a movie, something I can latch on to with my heart. This movie didn't move me in any way, and the ending felt trite and contrived and abrupt. I spent more time holding my sister's hand and soothing her than really paying attention. It didn't grab me at all. It's not my kind of movie, in that I need human stories that happen to be in the context of something amazing, rather than these huge scenarios with people thrown in there for the hell of it. So a thumbs down from me. But that's just me.
Constantine. This one was a little bit better, but fell along the same lines. Spectacle with people somewhere in the middle. Keanu still really can't act, although I respect Rachel Weisz quite a bit. The effects were indeed quite cool. And the story was... a bit convoluted, and seemed to go certain places ONLY for the special effects, but still kind of intriguing. I doubt I'll ever waste 2 hours watching it again, but it was cool to see. Sort of a thumbs sideways (lol)
Life as a House. This movie I adored, a lot. Goth!Hayden was fantastic!! He's really quite gorgeous with eyeliner and a lip piercing and a sulky pout. But he's even more gorgeous later with the heart wrenching outbursts, the very convincing crying, and embarassment at coming while kissing a girl in the shower (LOL... what an awesome scene). Hayden is a GOOD actor!! I think that Star Wars just didn't let him express himself at all. George Lucas probably repressed the talent the kid has. I see why he was chosen for Anakin (he glowers and sulks like NO other) but he has mentioned lots of times that George told him to do things with the character that he didn't really want to do, so I think that made him go wooden and unexpressive. But my love for him is now flourishing quite fully (before I was reluctant because he was mostly just a pretty face) and I really really hope he gets more good roles in the future. He has a lot of potential!
Um, the movie, right. Overall it was just really well done. I don't know how else to say it. The characters were interesting, and the story was good, with just enough humor. Jena Malone gets high praise but... I don't know how I felt about her. Maybe it's how I feel about the character (who was very forward and openly sexual, which I usually have a problem with, mostly because I really can't be that way myself) but she irked me a little bit. Kevin Kline was very good as the main character, and Kristin Scott Thomas was good too, though she had her moments where I felt like she was overdoing it. But overall I really enjoyed the movie a lot, I'm really glad I own it.
Okay so I've got several pictures I've just taken with my camera. I took it out with the intention of taking pics of my new shirt and my tattoo, but I went a little crazy.
About the shirt: I went to Hot Topic and I saw it and immediately NEEDED it. Why? Because Ewan McGregor wears it in his Playboy photoshoot!! It's a very cool shirt too, I like Green Day a lot, so I just had to have it. I'll think of Ewan every time I wear it :D
Here it is:
and
And here's Ewan wearing it... isn't he just so adorable? *squishes him*

Now, on to the miscellany... let us start with HAZEL, my adorable little cousin who you saw at the beginning of this entry.

She was being a superhero, sticking her arms out, running down the stairs and leaping off. She suckered my sis into playing.

*awwwww*

That's a great pic of my bro and sister, but then Hazel's face!! lmao :)
Some silly pics of myself goofing off with the camera:

MWAH.

:)

I'm so cool. ....why are you laughing? :P

Three me's, omg!

Grrr!
And random shots from around my room.

My high school diploma! Proof that I did it!

My little corner of the world. Frodo angsts down at me constantly, it's very stressful *g* The MSN conversation on my laptop is with
novafairy, and the AIM one is either
theaeblackthorn or
nebulein ^_^

close up of my bulletin board, which has very random things on it. Let's see... Spongebob, a "come to the be-in" card from the Hair performance at school, a "complaint service form" from the policeman when I told him about the scary guy who asked me my age and if I liked to do "wild and crazy things," tickets to a IMAX movie, the Le Nozze de Figaro opera at the Metropolitan that I went to with my French class, and Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf? at Longacre Theatre in nyc that I saw with my English class, two soccer game schedules, a third one on a piece of paper with all the scores written down, with another behind that, three graded rounds from a Math Team meet, my Varsity letter with four of my five Varsity pins on it, my hotel room keycard envelope from the Atlantis in the Bahamas, the colored plastic bracelets we had to get every morning at the Atlantis to ride the waterslides, Varsity Letter certificates, a pic of my sister Meredith and my cousin carmen, my graduation tassle, randomly Elijah Wood, a valentine from my friend Sarah, Spongebob stickers, some ribbons in school colors that I think I wore for our last game... I can't remember o.O and the program for our Song and Dance performance. Wow. That really is a snapshot of my life.

My gorgeous laptop which is my baby and which I might have to part with in a month in favor of a brand new free iBook, I can't decide, aaargh! *agonizes* Of course that's Ewan allll over the desktop.

All of the things I got out of my trip... we went to Krispy Kreme twice, which was awesome... the plane tickets, program for the Ren Faire, the boxes I bought, and the movies and books I bought. *happy little sigh* I'm such a material girl, lol.

And last but not least, my F&M flip flops!! Or, as Hazel calls them, "slip slops"! I swear I'm going to call them that from now on :D These are my favorite shoes, I've been living in them all summer. Isn't the logo for my school so pretty?
Wow, that was the longest post in the history of EVER. I'm not even kidding. Damn. I need to stop storing things up to talk about until they just pile up like this. Yikes. I will be VERY surprised if anyone reads all of this, but whatever, it's there now :)
I need some Hayden icons.
