I'm trying to play out the scenarios in my head, but it's either Germany beats Ghana or Australia steps it up against either Serbia or Ghana and Germany gets through on goal differential with a tie against Ghana. Or something.

We're in the same boat, bb. My babies have to win against Nigeria to ensure qualification. Although, if they draw and Argentina beat Greece they also go through.

In equally bad news, watching the US today was awful, which is why I'm attempting to get excited for England in about 12 minutes.

Granted they tied, it was still a terrible first half against Slovenia. There is no reason for this. I'm going to bash my head against a wall.

Also, what made you a fan of Germany? Just curious. I mean they are a talented powerhouse of players. I almost feel like its too easy to be a fan, haha. I keep thinking I have to stick up for the underdogs, I guess.

Well, I've honestly never followed a sports team in my life, aside from rooting for who my dad roots for by default. Soccer has always been my favorite sport to watch, but I didn't have a team to root for back in World Cup 2006. So I just watched whatever random games I could after work from my uncle's DVR, and I ended up watching almost all of Germany's matches. Simply put: I fell in love. I have friends who are German so their enthusiasm - not just for the team, but for the players - was infectious. I learned all of the players' names and became incredibly fond of them as a team of young, talented people who happen to ADORE each other. Essentially I took a fangirl approach to choosing my team. Is that valid? Idk, and I don't particularly care - I'm just happy to follow these boys wherever they lead, even if its into pain and misery.

In other matches I've rooted for the underdogs. But ultimately Germany is my horse in this race. *hands*

Right now I'm mostly upset and angry and I don't know what to say. I guess I need more than 5 minutes but ask me again tomorrow. I'll be pumping with optimism and WE'LL MAKE IT. Hopefully.

(but I'm scared to watch the post-match interviews right now... i don't want to see them sad but I need to know what they said because I don't always trust the newspapers and ah. maybe I'll also go to bed and do that all tomorrow)

Sorry for barging in but sadly six points aren't enough. :/ I just did the maths (which gave me a little bit of a headdache, lol)

Scenario:
- Ghana wins tomorrow against Australia
- We win against Ghana
- Serbia wins against Australia

-> Ghana, Germany & Serbia? All of them six points after all the games. And only two can come out of the group stage.

So that's when the goal difference becomes *very* important. So maybe this 4-0 against Australia will save our asses but before even thinking about that we have to just win the next game. :D

Aww, thanks for telling me! I like knowing how people fall in love with things (fandoms, sports teams, etc.).

Pssh, any reason is a valid reason. For me, choosing the underdog sometimes has to do with the fact that I am often the underdog in competitive situations...so its like a commiseration things, haha.

Well good luck to Germany! They are a great team. Unlike England's team (which is made up of GREAT players who don't know how to act as a cohesive unit), Germany really knows how to come together as one entity.

I was really disappointed in America and England today but completely blown away by the awesome defense by Algeria. Seriously, it was gorgeous.
