Reasons why I should move to Dublin, Seattle, Canada, or the Arctic Circle:
  • I hate heat. I hate even mild heat. When it gets over 80, I am grumpy. Over 90, and I hate everything.
  • I don't like direct sunlight. It often gives me a headache. I strategically structure my walk to work so as to optimize the amount of shade I walk through. Lying in the sun to tan is anathema to me.
  • I burn/freckle rather than tan. Though the burn can turn into a light tan - hence my ridiculous farmer's tan/trucker's tan combo.
  • I hate wearing warm weather clothing. I don't like anything that reveals any more than my calves and arms up to mid-bicep (so capris and t-shirt). I feel uncomfortable and self-conscious with any more skin showing.
  • I HATE BUGS. All the bugs that come out to play during the summer seriously gross me out.
  • I dislike sweating! (From heat - from working out I don't mind.) I hate the tacky feeling of my skin after the sweat dries.
  • I looooove hoodies and long pants and snuggly sweatshirts and scarves and every kind of WARM clothing.
  • I also love hot tea and hot cappuccinos, om nom.

SO BASICALLY I HATE SUMMER, is what I'm trying to say. And this is summer in the midwest or northeast! Can you imagine me trying to live anywhere further south?! I'd DIE and/or move into my air conditioned lab. The only things I like about the summer are thunderstorms (when I'm NOT driving in them) and flip flops. That's it. Otherwise, GIMME FALL OR WINTER OR EARLY SPRING RIGHT NOW KTHX.

I really do genuinely want to move somewhere where it's frequently overcast and drizzly. Call me crazy but it totally suits me.

Only four years to go in Michigan... :P

This post is brought to you by procrastination.

EVERYTHING YOU JUST SAID, YES. Hi, I usually lurk around here. :) I live in Virginia, and can't even go outside in the summer. Spring and fall only last a day or two each, and I hate it. I vacation in the UK as often as possible, and keep telling the husband that we should either retire there or somewhere in the US with a similar climate. (Although, where would that be? Oregon?) Am going to Ireland in four weeks. (Not Dublin, though. Galway/Limerick/etc.) And I can't wait to get out of this 100 degree plus heat and humidity!

Wait for a similar post in a few months from me about why winter needs to die in the most firey pits of HELL. Being cold is the devil (which always begs the question, why the heck do I live in Chicago?).

Oog. Having moved from 55 deg N to 40.74 deg N, I completely sympathise. I too prefer the cold, though funnily enough I quite like the winters down here. Climatic patterns are funny things.

See, normally I LOVE summer. Everything about it! I don't mind bugs, I like sunshine, I don't burn easily, I love sundresses... I am like DESIGNED for summer!

But THIS summer, oh my god. I live in Tennessee, right, so I'm used to hot summers. But this summer is the hottest in 17 years in my area, the humidity is far worse than usual, and every time I step outside I want to die because you can literally FEEL the humidity against your skin, which I've found is impossible to describe to people who have only experienced dry heat but OH MY GOD IS TERRIBLE. I mean, right now outside it is 96 degrees with 50% humidity. WORDS CANNOT DESCRIBE HOW MISERABLE THAT IS, AND THE WORST PART IS THAT IT'S ACTUALLY COOLED OFF SINCE YESTERDAY.

Um, I have a lot of thoughts and feelings on the weather right now.

I am the exact opposite of you in terms of weather preference, but I'm sure you figured that out as I chose to live in Florida after growing up in New York City. When it's cold and dark at 4:30 PM outside I get irritable and depressed and want the world to go die in a fire. When it's 85 degrees out and humid I just go out for long drives and go windowshopping and party it out until it gets dark at 8:30 PM. (I may have mild seasonal afflictive disorder, so the dark GETS TO ME.) I have crazy dry skin, so cold weather just makes me want to scratch my skin off and I hate it so very much; the humidity of warm weather means I actually feel normal for a while. I love Southern sweet tea, which can only be served cold, and ice cream, and granitas, and all things sweet foods made to chill you down.

I don't own shorts though (a history of eczema on the backs of my knees makes me squeamish about showing them), so I'm constantly in jeans and a t-shirt, but the fact that this can be a uniform for me for like eight months of the year makes me kinda crazy happy.

*flails around* I'm sure I'll be complaining come this fall and I hang out with all of my friends and wail constantly about my fiance not being there, though. Also, lack of real Asian food, augh. I am so conflicted about my love for Florida and my love for New York...

OH HAI SO DID YOU TAKE THIS POST OUT OF MY BRAIN???

Sadly, Canada (especially around Ontario and Quebec) does actually tend to get murderously hot during the summer, so you wouldn't be escaping much. If that makes you feel any better ;p

Are you me or ...? This exactly how I feel about summer. And I live in Minnesota, where it's basically freezing six months of the year. But I really hate being hot, it's such a misery.

I AGREE WITH YOU A TRILLION PERCENT. In North Carolina we have been consistently having 98 degrees + days (I think at one point we had 18 in a row) so I totally envy you in Michigan.

Hate to break it to you, but Canada gets hot, too. :( A few weeks ago in Toronto it was 30 degrees Celcius, so like...I dunno, 80-something Fahrenheit? with like, nine hundred percent humidity, so it actually felt like 40 C, or over 100 F. It was like living inside someone's armpit.

Out in British Colombia might be a good choice, though, what with the ocean breezes and stuff.

I agree with everything. Heat = my face :((((((

We had ~100 a few weeks ago and I am so glad that the weather has cooled off. But I don't think summer's over yet. I don't want it to get too hot again though. :(

In conclusion, let's move to Canada somewhere not that hot together. :D?

lmao, I am the antithesis to your list. Even though I do hate bugs, and even though I am perpetually the colour of snow, I would infinitely prefer to live in constant summer lying in the sunshine in a sundress. The cold is evil. I can't feel my fingers right now. :(

We are opposites! I love love love summer. I'm also cold if it's under 80, freezing if it's under 70, and sunshine is my best friend!

I'm glad there are people who like to live in the cold, although it completely escapes me why they would want to. I love Southern California, where I live. So far, this summer has not been too hot, although they say it will last a lot longer because it has taken so long to actually start. Not sure how accurate that is.
