The movie was amazing. I've seen the play twice, and I love it onstage, but I don't know how they could have done the adaptation any better. I love that they used pretty much the entire original cast.

The stuff they left out, I get why they had to do it, but the last half of "Good-bye Love" is important not only for the Mimi stuff, but because it makes it clear that Roger is leaving more because of his fears and insecurity issues than because Mimi is still on drugs. Still, for time sake, some stuff has to go.

The first time I saw it onstage, I was so sure Mimi was dead too and then so surprised when she woke up. We took a friend of my dad's who had never heard of Rent to the movie and she was blown away. I forget what an emotional rollercoaster it can be for people who don't know the story and aren't expecting it. I wasn't very familiar with it the first time I saw it and I was a wreck for days.
