That may or may not have been the lamest episode of Supernatural yet. No wait - it was. Of *course* it has to be the one Sara watches with me (it's SO much better than that most of the time, I swear to you!) because that's just perfect. My thoughts, in brief...
I hate that they took this week's hot chick and tried to make us actually believe that Dean loved her. LOVE. Yes, the big L word. Because they had about as much chemistry as a rock and a stick. Honestly. Jensen was trying, he really was, but it just didn't work. For one, it was far too rushed and shoved in our faces, and for another that girl could NOT act. Just like every other one (except for Amy Acker and Julie Benz, of course. Jossverse represent! :P) and so to try to make her be that important to Dean felt demeaning. I hoped they would have made an effort to find a better actress for a role that important, but then again I was relieved to see she clearly wasnt star material, so she probably wasn't going to do something disastrous like decide to join them. OH GOD I WOULD HAVE THROWN SOMETHING. When I brought this up, Sara said "Well, she could die." and I sort of lit up happily - "I didn't think of that!" Sara proceeded to look at me with amused disbelief. Yes, I am that callous. About things that threaten to mess up the Winchester-love that's basically why I watch the show. So, she didn't die, but she didn't come with them either. All I can say is - PHEW!
A truck??? LAME. LAAAAME. They tried to make it all historically resonant and shit with the racist stuff, but for one the part where the guy was beating up Martin, and then Martin killed the guy, was absolutely lacking in any oomph at all. You could tell the blows weren't real. For another, A GHOST TRUCK. I just can't take that seriously. Especially since it looked like a Hummer and was supposedly from the 60s. Usually this show scares me, to the point of whimpering pathetically for the safety of our boys, but this time it was just.... so when are they going to defeat it already? come onnnn.
The sex scene was appalling. I had to mute it the music was so bad. POOR JENSEN. Well, he probably didn't mind all too much (she WAS pretty) but still - so demeaning!
On the plus side...
Sam is love. SO cute. The quintessential little brother throughout the whole episode, and in the adorable way. AW I LOVE HIM. And there was still the love between Dean and Sam, so apparent, all the time, thanks to Jensen and Jared's ridiculous amount of chemistry. So even amid this train wreck of an episode, that stayed intact.
THE PREVIEW YAY. Finally into some juicy stuff with Sam's psychic abilities! AND Dean in danger AGAIN, which means ANGST, and probably touching. Um, yes. I have high hopes for this one! (I really did not have high hopes for Route 666. The previews looked godawful. A truck?????)
ETA: Best part of the episode: Dean and Sam discussing something, and walking in perfect sync. Legs, arms, all swinging perfectly in time with each other. They gesture with their hands and then just go back to the sync. They dont even notice. I LOVE IT. I have no idea what they were talking about, I was just watching them walk :D
Oh Supernatural. Find your stride, please!
I'm using this icon simply because it kills me with hotness. Guh.
ETA again: I totally forgot! Gilmore Girls was GREAT! I missed the first 10 minutes, but the last 5 minutes? SO GREAT. The style was just so refreshing and new and I absolutely loved it. And I even liked Logan in this ep! Yay. Not enough Luke, IMO, but I'm hoping the show is finding its groove again :)

Date: 2006-02-01 04:37 am (UTC)The in sync walking scene! I totally noticed that too! I didn't hear a frigging word they said, because they were walking and moving exactly the same for like two whole minutes! It was hypnotic! And the fact that I'm 100% positive it was in no way intentional makes it even better!
But yeah, I was annoyed with the whole Cassie thing too. I wouldn't have had a problem with her if they hadn't gone the OMGDEANLOVESHER!!! route. If it was just a chick he liked and dated for a few weeks, then when they get back together there's still a lot of physical chemistry that culminates in them having sex, I would have had NO problem with it. But the love thing? I did not buy it one frigging bit!
The only thing that made me happy was that they ended the ep with Cassie telling Dean that there is no way their relationship will work. Ever. GOOD!
I don't give a shit WHAT this show does, as long as they don't fuck with Dean and Sam's relationship!
Next weeks ep. OMG. O. M. G. That ep will be positively delicious. Even the 30 second long preview was positively DRIPPING with angst! I have a feeling we may have a winner for best Supernatural ep ever, and it hasn't even aired yet! *counts down to next Tuesday*

Date: 2006-02-01 04:42 am (UTC)HAHA you noticed the walking too!! I'm so glad! :D Priceless, priceless.
I totally agree about cassie. I could have accepted the physical thing, but dude, LOVE? I didn't get that vibe at all. And yes, I'm so glad they effectively put closure on it. SMART GIRL. You know you can't be with him becausehe'ssekritlyinlovewithhislittlebrother. I mean, what? :D
NEXT WEEK! *FLAIL* SO GOOD AUGH. When the preview finished I turned to Sara and said "Omg brother angst yay!" HEE. She just laughed at me :D

Date: 2006-02-01 02:55 pm (UTC)Meh, I suppose a show is allowed a few sucky episodes a season. Now that we've had this ep and Bugs, hopefully the bad ep quota has been filled!
But next week. Eeeee! When the promo ended I actually got up off my couch and screamed "OH MY GOD AWESOME!!!" Then rewound it and watched it like three more times.
My boyfriend then proceeded to laugh at me and call me a dork. But he did agree that next weeks ep DOES look pretty fucking cool ;-)

Date: 2006-02-01 05:21 am (UTC)Oookay, it wasn't so much that it was bd as that it was funny. And it probably wasn't supposed to be. Unless their secret message was that Hummers are things of doom and evil, which I can totally fall behind. When were Hummers made? Was it the 1960s? No, no, that's the Beetles. The Beatles? No wait. Um yeah. I think it was actually the last ten minutes of Gilmore Girls. It made me laugh more than Supernatural. You know what I say, blame it on the WB. Blaming the network always works for me. Like Andromeda, with the blck shirts with the wholes. Holes. Hee. Oh, Michelle says somehting. She does that a lot. Now she;s talking about you, or Andrea? But Andrea's in Stacy's class. No. No, they're roommates. Yeah, Michelle's in Stacy's class, and Eddy's. No wait, Eddy's in a different class. He has glasses. Did you notice that? Michelle thinks i need to go to sleep she's probably rigt. I mean he as brracees.

Date: 2006-02-02 03:34 am (UTC)i didn't buy the whole thing with Cassie either. and you're right, Jensen was trying, but he can only do so much with such a bad actress.
i liked the sex scene, but then again, i like anything that involves a naked Dean. or Jensen. i'm not picky.
i loved Sam SOOO much in this episode. like, more than normal. and next week's episode looks really good! i don't think i can wait until tuesday!

Date: 2006-02-02 09:04 pm (UTC)Though I do think you're missing out on The Subtext. Because the beginning of this ep? When Dean and Sam were talking in the car? Sam's little speechlet to Dean made me nearly fall over. Like for real. In case you don't remember, I typed it up for you:
"By the way, how does she know what we do? ...you told her. You told her. The secret. Our big family rule number one: we do what we do, and we shut up about it. For a year and a half, I do nothing but lie to Jessica, and you go out with this chick in Ohio a couple of times, and you tell her everything?"
I mean, hello? Do the writers not REALIZE how that entire quote totally alludes to Wincest? :D (I do not grasp at straws, I daintily reach for them.) And let's not forget Sam's look of UTTER ANNOYANCE at Dean and Cassie's parting kiss. Muah!
And as far Cassie herself, I agree with...just about everything, actually. Horrible acting. Makes me wish they'd gotten the actress who played Gunn's sister from Angel. Same look, same personality, MUCH BETTER ACTING SKILLS. And yeah, I could've bought the 'Dean's in love!' theory if they'd had an OUNCE of chemistry together.
Barring bad acting and zero chemistry, I actually thought they could've done more with Cassie. Not have her join them or anything (GOD NO), but I would've liked to see Dean considering staying there with her. Just to watch the Sam/Dean angst ensue.
OR. You know the scene where Cassie's home alone, and the evil!truck shows up? When the lights started flickering, I really thought that she was about to die the same way that Jessica and their mom did. Which would have been AWESOME. It would A) get Cassie out of the picture, B) reinforce the Winchester curse, C) bring Dean and Sam even closer, and D) be a really cool continuity thing in the middle of an otherwise drab episode. But alas, she was merely scared by evil!headlights and evil!engine revving. And to that, I say 'boo'.
Oh, and as for The Pretty. At the end, when Sam is explaining to Dean about the hallowed ground over the phone? Sam with snow falling around him! Pretty! Sam with snow falling around him and fire burning behind him! Double pretty! I need to calm down!
Wow, this is a ridiculously long comment. My apologies, m'lady. Oh! The synchronous walking! In SUITS! With the pretty harbor behind them! In SUITS! Oh, so lovely, and oh, so a subconscious display of their OTPness. :D

Date: 2006-02-02 09:45 pm (UTC)Hey, I didn't miss out on the Subtext. I always have my Subtext radar on full alert. Every single glance I'm like OMG JUMP EACH OTHER ALREADY. In the sexual way. Obviously. It's just that the suckiness of the context kind of distracted me :( I'll probably watch this again at some point, and squee over how jealous Sam is (because he IS, like whoa) but yeah.
And I do remember that beginning speech, because I was like "The first rule of Winchester club is... don't talk about Winchester club! The second rule of Winchester club..." I crack myself up :D
And definitely, cassie was an opportunity for them to do something cool like that. Establish that all the women these boys love really do die, by this same demon. Or, alternatively, Dean could have angsted more. Overall it just felt really plot-devicey, and they didn't utilize it enough -_-
IN SUITS!
*hearts you like whoa*
