I have returned! (From the East Coast Summit on Hunger and Homelessness in Boston, if you missed that)

It is almost midnight, I have class in 8 hours, I have lots of work that needs doing, but I also have cramps (GOOD TIMING, BODY) and I'm plowing my way through three days worth of my "short version" flist (which still has like 25 people on it, WHY ARE YOU ALL SO AWESOME?) so basically, not being productive right now.

The trip was a lot of fun. The conference went really well, and the place we stayed was really quite nice - much better than last year. It was less... exuberant and epic than last year, but at the same time much more manageable, and I don't feel like I'm DEAD. Which is a good thing, because, orgo in 8 hours.

The one weird thing about the weekend was I kept getting randomly dizzy. I was exhausted already on Friday (because a week of class KILLS me this semester) and then got 5 hours sleep Friday night and went to the conference Saturday morning, and at the conference I noticed the world was going kinda topsy turvy every now and then. It kept getting worse, so we asked one of the conference volunteers if I could sleep somewhere, and they brought me to a lounge with couches and I took a 2 hour nap, so I was mostly better after that. But not for a while, actually - I still felt dizzy for a little while after I woke up. It was bizarre, because I've never reacted to sleep deprivation like that before. I had more of the dizziness earlier today. I'm wondering if I'm coming down with something, because I've had less sleep than that before and not reacted like that. Anyone have any ideas?

I'll do a mini recap later, but like I said, flisting right now, and then sleep. It's good to be home! *hugs everyone*

Welcome home! *hugs* I'm glad things went well and you had a good time. I don't know what to say about the dizziness. Maybe something like a change in altitude?

It's not uncommon for women in their early 20s to get vertigo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertigo_%28medical%29). There's no real explanation for why and if you got it it never completely goes away (as in it'll happen periodically for the resot of your life). If it happens again you should talk to your doctor.

Hmmm. Oh dear. Thank you for the info - I'll keep that in mind. The description they gave was very similar to what I experienced. Hm :-/

Do you have any ear congestion? Inner ear problems can cause vertigo.

Also, I've gotten dizzy from low blood pressure - could that be it?

Feel better!

Hmmm, i'm not sure. And i've never had problems with low blood pressure before. *scratches head* It was very bizarre.

Thanks sweetie!

Yay! Glad you're home and you had a lot of fun! No clue about the dizziness, but if it keeps happening I'd go to a doctor.

And this is totally off topic, but [livejournal.com profile] jaxie926 is putting out feelers for those gals who are interested in a summer con. *shrugs* It won't be as many people as the "real" con, but for those who can't do LA at all, it'd still be sweet! She has a poll at her LJ to get an idea of how many are interested and I'm helping to spread the word to those I know who are out for the LA con.

Thanks hon, good to be back! I hope it doesn't happen again :-/

Is there anotehr poll at [livejournal.com profile] arabella_hope's journal? Or am I getting confused with the same thing? I just don't want the effort to be split up, because it would ber eally cool to have a relatively large event over here in the summer. *crosses fingers*

Hmmm, nope. That is a separate poll for someone else trying to plan something too. Hmmm, I'm gonna leave a quick comment to let her know about our plans too - maybe we can combine forces! ;)

We're totally gonna make SOMETHING work for the summer over here on the east coast. I was thinking we could just put it back in Nashville if there are too many issues about New Orleans or agreeing on another, nonexpensive place. But now that the word is out, I feel confident that we can plan something!

I'm wondering if it's not just sleep deprivation but also stress and are you eating enough? Perhaps it's exhaustion and/or dehydration. Dehydration is nasty stuff. I'd say make sure to try and get enough sleep--even if that means to stop doing stuff so you can get your ass to sleep (trust me, I had to do it last year). I know that you're working hard and classes are rough, but YOU AND YOUR HEALTH is number one. REMEMBER THAT. [/stern Molly Weasley-ish mommyness]

Yeah, it could be a bunch of different factors. I'm not being exactly easy on myself lately. (It's 1:30, wtf am I doing up? Heh.) So yeah, I should probably try to be nicer to my body. SORRY MOM! *cowers*

Heh. No need to be sorry. I have to remind myself about that kind of stuff, too.

*Hugs*

Also...forgot to mention. Start carrying water with you WHEREVER you go. You're supposed to get 64 fl. oz. a day or something like that. Make sure you're trying to reach that goal. Excessive amounts of coffee = bad if you don't hydrate. Just like with booze.

Dude, it could totally be the coffee thing. I've been having coffee practically every day this week, and that is NOT normal for me. I didn't even think about that. I'll definitely need to work on the water thing. Thanks for the tip hon.

It's just a matter of balance, sweetheart. I have a shitton of coffee when anyone gives me an inch, but I have to remember to at least try to even it out with some water. Same with pop (though I really SHOULDN'T have it, period).

You're most certainly welcome.

Glad you had a good time. The dizzyness could be from the combination of tiredness and starting your period. I know I used to get dizzy spells when I had real bad cramps and didn't lie down enough.

Date: 2007-02-12 06:27 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] exsequar.livejournal.com
That did occur to me, but for one thing it's never happened before (the dizziness associated with my period) and for another, I didn't actually start until this morning, but the dizziness was most pronounced yesterday. Could still be linked though.

Gr, stupid body.
