Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] theaeblackthorn, a silly little meme. I didn't mean to write that sentence yoda-style, it just happened ^_^

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth full sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around for the coolest book you can find. Use what's actually nearest to you.

Ok so I have a choice between the book closest on my right (Order of the Phoenix) or my left (a Clive Cussler novel). I did the OotP and came up with this:

"The hearing's on my floor, in Amelia Bones's office."
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

SO BORING. So I went for the other one...

"The farmers came running from their field and stood around the crushed body that was embedded nearly half a meter into the soil."
Clive Cussler, Inca Gold

AHAHAHA! Much better!! I seriously need to reread some of Cussler's shit, I used to love his books, I miss them! Speaking of Cussler, I SAW SAHARA!!

Ok so I was reluctant to see this movie (which is an adaptation of one of Clive Cussler's books) because Cussler himself had sued the movie people over the script, which apparently didn't follow his book as much as he wanted it to. So I was leery of seeing it for fear it would absolutely butcher my Dirk love. But then I got a positive review from a fellow Cussler fan so decided, what the heck, why not, and saw it with a bunch of my friends last night (also, I felt it was a much better choice than Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants... as much as I love Alexis, I didn't really feel like seeing a chick flick). And I'm so glad I did! It was exciting and fast paced and intense. Also? Matthew McConaughey (is that right?) is freaking GORGEOUS, omg... the biceps! *thud* And while he's not exactly as I pictured Dirk (whom I imagined to be quieter, less in-your-face charming, but more intense in a hidden depths kind of way. But that's pretty hard to capture) he still has that rugged handsomeness to him which was quite appropriate. I thought Penelope Cruz did well as Eva... in the books I usually hate the women (uh jealousy cause they get Dirk? maaaaaybe) but I thought she was a strong female who could hold her own with the boys (I always respect female doctors). Giordino (I thought you said it with a hard G! When he said his name he sounded like... unfamiliar with his own name. Which is awkward) wasn't um short and stocky and muscley and ITALIAN like he's supposed to be, which pissed me off, cause I definitely saw him as being very male, very brawny, very tough looking, but a teddy bear at heart. So they got that characterization comPLETELY wrong. However, he was genuinely funny, so I forgave him.

As for the plot... I haven't read the book in so long that the ENORMOUS plot deviations didn't bother me so much since I couldn't really remember the intricacies of the original plot. Of course there were many many inexplicable things, huge coincidences that would NEVER happen, but Cussler's books have always required a certain "willing suspension of disbelief which constitutes poetic faith" (Samuel Coleridge... YES I am an AP English DORK, I went to a party at my English teacher's house yesterday with the rest of the class, WE LOVE HER OMG) so I didn't care so much. The old car was freaking gorgeous but not in the movie enough. If they do another one, they need to do one of the books where there is a craaaazy car chase with Dirk driving one of his babies. Speaking of his babies, one of my biggest disappointments with the movie was that they didn't show Dirk's hangar!!!!! I know I shouldn't have expected it, but OMG I WANT TO SEE IT. 50 gorgeous antique cars in one place?? In an abandoned aircraft hangar??? What a brilliant idea!! also I wanted to see Dirk's apartment. Le sigh.

What else what else... ok I got nothing. It was a FUN movie, lots of fun, so go see it!!! All 5 of my friends loved it, even though they had never read the books, so go :)

Ok I realize none of that made any sense if you haven't read the books. Sorry! Kinda for my own memory :)

And sort of related, this was what I did for the past three days, in which I didn't come home.

Wednesday - LAST DAY OF SCHOOL, then went home with Coryn. Mer and Dana came over and we signed yearbooks and watched The Notebook. Which was sweet but not heartbreaking as I had been led to believe o.O Maybe I just don't have a heart, who knows! Mer left and Dana and I reminisced about the past 8 years (all the way back to 5th grade, when we were the BEST of friends). Then we slept there.

Thursday - Anna came to pick up me and Coryn to go to the AP English party (ROCK ON), then we went to pick up Chris but got LOST and actually wasted like half an hour, then we got Ian and got gas and got lost in Rowayton on the way to the party so we were an hour late. The party was amazing, sosososo much fun, our teacher (HELEN KWESKIN WE LOVE YOU) has the most GORGEOUS house, directly overlooking the water (Long Island Sound) so you could just walk down some stairs and be on the beach. We hung out on the porch, ate yummy food, again signed yearbooks, went down on the beach and skipped rocks, drew in huge letters with our feet WE ♥ U, HELEN! with a COMMA in there because it was grammatically correct! We also buried Sarah in the sand, up to her neck. Whitney and Lily were collecting dead crabs and Whitney said something about needing a frisbee to carry the crabs and I turned around and said "You have crabs?" and then I actually fell over laughing. Literally. IT WAS UNINTENTIONAL I SWEAR. Omg awkward :D Wow good times, good good times. Then a bunch of us decided to go to dinner and a movie that night. So Sarah, Coryn, Khaled and I went to Sarah's house so she could change out of her sand-filled clothes, then we went to Kampei, a Japanese/Chinese restaurant and had some good food. Then we went to see SAHARA, we met Bobby and Mer at the theater. After the movie Bobby and I really wanted ice cream but we came to the reluctant conclusion that no place would be open at 11 PM. Tear. So we all (excpet for Mer, she had something to do in the morning... poor girl) went to Khaled's house. We kinda plopped down and started watching TV. Coryn had her mom pick her up because she was feeling sick :( Dana showed up. Bobby killed a crawly millipede thing for me, it was very brave of him :P Then we had a long decision about where we should spend the night, cause we were gonna sleep at Coryn's and she still wanted us to but she was SICK, she just felt bad about not having us stay, and we were like OMG SHUT UP CORYN YOU'RE SICK (she's a crazy girl, and impossible to explain) so we considered Sarah's and Dana's, but their parents were asleep and other problems. my house was out cause it's um half an hour away, yeah. So Sarah and I ended up sleeping at Khaled's... Bobby and Dana each went home. We watched Moulin Rouge (I WANT EWAN'S BABIES!!!) until 3 AM, then went to sleep.

Friday (aka today) - I slept til noon ^_^ Had breakfast. Then me, Sarah, Khaled, and Khaled's sister Lia played Halo 2 for a while. I actually did pretty well for my first time! Great fun :D Sarah drove me to her house and we watched a couple of episodes of Friends with her sister Melissa. Then I went home, exhausted but so happy!

So that concludes my adventures. I'm really glad I did all this because now my senior year's over I'm regretting not having spent more time (read: any, outside of school) with my friends. Ah well.

Oh, also, cool deal.... I found out today that I am Valedictorian!! It's so gratifying after 4 years of really hard work. Yay.

That is all! Wow this is probably my longest LJ entry ever. Crazy.
