BSG WTFery
Apr. 16th, 2006 02:35 amSo we watched a couple more BSG episodes tonight (we're getting so close omg! four left!) aaand.. WTF.
Yeah. WTF. Especially for Black Market. It felt... not like a BSG episode. It was all focused on Lee and all the other characters fell by the wayside, and this weird plot with the smuggling and stuff, but the biggest WTF is this random girl that Lee loved - we've never seen any mention of her before! And the flashbacks were so lame, it was like just three shots of her over and over - I know she's crying, THANKS! Now tell me why! *facepalm* I would have appreciated a bit more *depth* to that, like maybe... a name? I don't know, the whole thing felt off. Also - where the hell was Kara?! *frowns* You'd think she'd notice if Lee was getting this fucked up, and be there for him.
Scar was a little bit better, but it seemed like the same exact episode but just with Kara! She's hung up on a dead love too (1. How does she know he's dead? and 2. LOVE?!?!? WTF. W.T.F. It seemed like a one night fling, desperate people finding warmth in each other, and that's it! Suddenly she can't get him off her mind? Why now? She's gone most of the season without freaking out about him! Argh.) and is dealing with it really badly. By drinking. *sighs* Oh Kara. I didn't like the whole conflict with Kat - I don't know, I guess I've just never liked Kat much, and I hated seeing Starbuck's feet yanked out from under her like that. And the whole plot with the mining thing seemed very contrived, as did the sudden appearance of this "Scar", aaaaand.. the whole concept just felt overwrought, or something.
And of course, I must comment on THE scene. Ouch. Kara picturing Anders while making out with Lee? NOT what I had in mind. It does seem like the whole desire for a relationship is mostly coming from Lee. Though I keep coming back to when Kara yelled out Lee's name while having sex with Gaius! Yep, no feelings there at all. But ANYways, the last kiss was good and deep and clearly Kara was apologizing with that, and that kind of redeems the whole debacle a little bit.
Uh, Lee/Dee? WTF, guys, WTF. It has NO POINT WHATSOEVER. NO POINT. NONE. Is it just to make Lee look like a manslut? Got a whore over here who he's using as a substitute for a woman he apparently loved, got this girl he's leading along who has her own boyfriend and wants to know if it's "going anywhere", and then a best friend who he clearly wants to be something more. Um, make up your mind Lee! I just... don't understand >.<
...I hope things pick back up. I don't like being disappointed in something I love this fervently :(
Dean does not understand. Neither do I, darling *pets* Obliquely related to that, one of the pairings that came up at the awesome comm
ithurtsmybrain was Kara/Dean. Um, GUH much? I kind of have a plot worked out that I'd like to write about them, but I really doubt my ability to characterize either of them well. But seriously. HOT.

Date: 2006-04-16 10:29 am (UTC)And the Lee/Dee is soooooooo WTF. Apparently quite a few Lee/Dee scenes got cut in the edit--but that's still poor writing. I felt the writers did NOTHING to explain it to us.
*hugs* I hated this part of the season. For the first time, BSG let me down. My sympathy.

Date: 2006-04-16 04:38 pm (UTC)Oh BSG. Nothing can be perfect always. *pets it*
Although... is it just us (me and my friends), or is the music REALLY strange sometimes? Like, just weirdly inappropriate for the scenes? It's.... weird. o.O

Date: 2006-04-19 07:41 am (UTC)I really loved the scene where Adama turns up and they're all pointing guns at each other. I think Apollo is so shocked, he doesn't even remember he's pointing his weapon at his father and I love the way Commander Adama makes him lower his gun first. Then they hug and the whole team is getting put back together and that makes me smile. Then Adama goes over to Starbuck and the scene is really striking for me. He pushes her hair out of her face, so tender and loving, like a father. I'm big on the whole family feeling this show creates. ;)
The whole Tomb of Athena bit is great too. How Starbuck quips, "I think that was the lobby," when they finally are able to use the arrow to open it, the constellations, the realisation that they are 'standing on earth'. I just loved that.

Yes I noticed that a little in the latter half of the season. Previously I'd never found the music in BSG odd.

Date: 2006-04-18 12:10 am (UTC)I've noticed it before... one instance that comes to mind now is when Bill gives the lighter to Lee, the music is like... I forget, but maybe... Irish? Anyway it's all lighthearted and it sounds like they should be dancing through fields of flowers or something, LOL. Ah well. It gives it a unique flavor, hee.
And about the icon, thanks! :D I love when they hold up the gun and their hands work together to do t.

Date: 2006-04-18 12:17 am (UTC)I think the trouble with those eps was they were trying to do too much. The writers are good at sweeping ensemble work, where it doesn't matter if we don't get every character detail because it makes sense as a whole. But when they honed in on specific characters, they needed to give us a coherent understanding of those characters and failed to do so. Damn. But I gather the writers recognise these eps didn't work how they wanted them to and are gunning for some better stuff in Season 3. And the end-of-season set-up has lots of potential.

Date: 2006-04-18 12:21 am (UTC)That's good that they're acknowledging it and trying to improve. It's rather different from SPN where the writing's pretty substandard but that's accepted just cause it's the WB. But oh well, the boys are still pretty and talented :D
Ack I need to finish this season! *bounces impatiently*
