KARA AND LEE ARE FRIENDS AGAIN YAY.
*takes a breath*
God, it was KILLING me that they weren't getting along. Like, actual whimpering. Wahhhh. But then! Oh, but then. That beautiful scene at the end that made me melt with the squishy goodness!! *happy sigh* Also, it parallels one of my favorite scenes ever - when Kara and Lee are reunited for the second time in the miniseries. There's handholding in both, there's fun banter that signals that "we are okay" in both, and there's getting over a massive disconnect and being fucking relieved about it because they really, really love each other. Just for the heck of it, I'm gonna transcribe both, because yay! And by transcribe I mean get down the dialogue and EVERY tiny bit of body language, plus a healthy amount of squee! So brace yourselves :D
Mini-Series, Scene 17, 2:06:50 in on the DVD
Lee: *Walks around the machinery on the hangar deck towards Kara, a slight smile on his face. Peaceful, happy music left over from Sharon and chief's reunion drifts in the background. He stops by a Viper, where Kara is on her back tinkering with the "Fuel Serv Access". He sort of smile/laughs to himself.* "Hey."
Kara: *Turns her head to look. Is paralyzed by what she sees, eyes widening slightly.*
Lee: *Looks like he wants to start beaming, but is holding back.*
Kara: *Plonks a wrench down on the floor, rolls out, still looking shocked. She takes his offered hand of support and stands up facing him. She's speechless for a few seconds, letting out a couple incredulous breaths like she can't quite believe what she's seeing.* "I thought you were dead."
Lee: "Well, I thought you were in hack." *He follows this up with an adorably affectionate smile, like 'that's Kara!'*
Kara: *Laughs a little, with a broad smile, and shrugs slightly as if to say, 'Well you know me!'*
*They have been holding hands this entire time. They finally let go.*
Kara: "It's good to be wrong." *She casts her eyes downwards, as if embarassed to be getting this emotional. clearly she's close to jumping with joy, but she's Starbuck, the tough one!*
Lee: "You should be used to it by now."
Kara: *Looks a bit surprised, then a warm smile spreads on her face. This... this is comfortable and familiar and she is so happy that he's willing to do that. Almost by rote she banters back, still smiling broadly.* "Everyone has a skill."
Lee: *Smiles at that (still close-lipped though! c'mon Lee, flash those pearly whites), but his smile slowly fades and suddenly he looks a bit intense, like he has so many things to say.*
Kara: *Stops smiling as well, mouth half open as if she wants to say something too. Of course, neither of them can.*
Lee: *Quite tactfully changes the subject. He does it all smooth and stuff, cause hey, he's Lee frakkin Adama!* "So... how go the repairs?"
Kara: *Looks grateful for the shift.* "On track. Another hour and she'll be ready to launch." *They both look over at the Viper as if looking into each others' eyes is too emotional. Which it is. She looks adorably uncomfortable, hugging her arms to herself.* "So I guess you're the new CAG now."
Lee: "That's what they tell me."
Kara: "'s good! It's the last thing I want." *completely deadpan* "I'm not a big enough dipstick for the job."
Lee: *Looks quite surprised, like 'did you really just say that?!' and then starts to laugh. They're easily slipping back into their affectionate, teasing relationship that you can tell they had before.*
Kara: *Grins adorably and tilts her head as if to say 'Hee, you know you love me!'*
Lee: *Stops laughing, but is still smiling a little* "I'll be in the squadron..." *and HERE he pauses, actually glances... down, at her.. body?! I don't know! This whole thing seems like a proposition, like 'I'll be waiting for you, beautiful' and it makes me SQUEE!* "...ready room." *Turns to walk away.*
Kara: *Her face splits in a HUGE grin, and it makes me want to squish her. She's SO HAPPY. Then her smile fades and she gets serious again.* "Hey. Does your father know you're still breathing?"
Lee: *Turns around. Let's out a small scornful laugh.* "I'll let him know."
Kara: *Watches him walk away, her eyes suspiciously bright, and clearly trying not to break out in song or something.*
So basically, I HEART THEM.
And then this, almost two full seasons later. The adorable is toned down a little, the angst toned up a bit, but it's still Kara and Lee in all their perfection.
2x17 The Captain's Hand, 39:00 in the .avi file I have
Kara: *Leaning against a bunk ladder while Lee packs up his things to move to Pegasus.* "You realize you're screwed, right? All the pressure, the responsibility, the sleepless nights, all the officers givin' you a hard time." *She smirks gleefully*
Lee: "Yeah well, it could be worse. You could be my CAG."
Kara: *Still grinning, lets out a breath/laugh.* "I'm gonna stay here and be Galactica's CAG. Something about wanting to keep an eye on me." *She laughs incredulously, as though this is such a shocking idea. Me, need watching?? Never!*
Lee: *chuckles* "Well, you and Colonel Tigh have a lot of fun at those morning briefings, the XO's a lotta fun -" *and here he gently bats Kara's cheeks with boxing gloves he's holding on each word* "-first thing."
Kara: "Mm, great!" *Kara's smile fades away and you can tell she's bracing herself for something pretty big. She musters up the courage.* "Congratulations." *She looks up at Lee with these wide, vulnerable eyes, like she's not sure how he's going to react to that. They're still on fragile ground together.*
Lee: *Frowning with surprise and incredulity.*
Kara: "Really. Congratulations." *She holds out her hand, and her face is so ridiculously earnest.*
Lee: *He hesitates for a moment, then takes her hand.*
Kara: *It's a warm handclasp, and her thumb rubs across the top of his hand, turning it gently. Quite intimate, really.* "You deserve it."
Lee: *Looks down at their hands in silence, his face quietly thoughtful.* "I know why I was mad at you Kara."
Kara: *Oh no here we go face, with a bit of amusement.* "A simple thank you would have been sufficient."
Lee: "'cause you were doing what you always did. Buck authority, and get away with it."
Kara: *Face falls, as though she's a bit ashamed/embarassed by that. She looks down to their hands, and the camera follows her gaze. They haven't let go.*
Lee: "I bucked authority once... and I almost lost everything." *He's making lots of great facial expressions here, he's just a lot harder to describe than Kara for some reason.* "So I guess when I showed up on Pegasus and there you were, doing it all over again, I don't know... pissed me off." *He pauses, looks down at Kara, then laughs quietly at himself. His voice is a whisper. There's a feel of confession to the whole thing.* "Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it?"
Kara: *wry smile* "You should hear the way my brain works sometimes." *They share a moment of quiet amusement. Kara gets really serious and earnest again. She stands up so they're eye to eye, swallows as if to build courage again.* "Are we okay?" *Her eyes do that puppydog thing, where she's absolutely terrified but doesn't want to show it.*
Lee: *Looks at her for a moment, completely serious. Then, with a small frown of confusion:* "You have a brain?"
Kara: *Pushes him gently, a smile breaking on her face. Then her expression is pure relief, the smile widening, because that was his way of saying 'YES. Yes, we are.' She releases his hand finally and throws her arms around him. Over his shoulder we see her forehead smooth with relief and happiness, and it looks like she's about to cry.*
And the scene ends with them holding each other.
I.... *FLAIL* I can't even. fdaklfaslkj. Love, do you hear me? Love.
I had other things to say about this episode, I swear, but doing this took a long time and I have A LOT of work to do. Like, a lot. Suffice to say that BSG has completely returned to AWESOMENESS and I love it greatly.*takes a breath*

Your style has gotten really sophisticated! I mean, you've always had a great sensibility, but I remember you saying you don't like text? The text on these is wonderful. Yay :) That Starbuck one is just so gorgeous.
Awwww...thank you so much! You know, it's actually pretty strange because I think my BSG icon-style is quite different from my QaF icon-style...
I don't even know why, but I just feel the show differently, it's difficult to explain, but I think it'll be pretty obvious when I'll finally post them.

I can tell that, actually, just from this little snippet. And I totally agree, BSG definitely has a unique feel to it. It's very hard to articulate, but I think we're on the same wavelength ^_^
