exsequarOne of the coolest things about this weekend was getting to watch a BRAND NEW EPISODE with fangirls. A room of squealing giggling fangirls! I thought we were admirably restrained - we didn't miss TOO many lines. What follows is a mini recap of our group reactions...
Bow. Da-na-na! Da-na-na. Dananananananow bow, danana, danana, dunun dunun dunun dunun BACK IN BLACK! - EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMETALLICAR!
"Because that's what GRAVITY does." - HAHAHAHA.
Doctors' outfits - SWOON! With panting groaning noises and everything!
Boys walk into back alley - Oooooooooh! *whistles and cat calls*
Dean decapitates vampire with much vim. - OmigodDEANyoupoor--ooh blood, HOT.
Sam looks broken. - AWWWWW SAMMY.
"He's the only one that gets to call me that." - *SCREAM OF JOY!* I kid you not. There was an actual squealy scream from our collective throat.
*PUNCH* - *SCREAM OF OMG*
"Maybe I'll just have to stick around and be a pain in the ass then." - SQUEALS HEARD ROUND THE WORLD.
Seriously, I loved this episode. I loved it so freaking much. I watched it fully 3 times with three different sets of fangirls over the weekend. It was *marvelous*. It had everything - humor, costumes, anvilly slash, Sam making admissions of love to Dean in various ways, angst, angsty violence, gratuitous blood on Dean's face, yelling arguments, movie-referencing Dean, decapitation, Dean fist fighting, Sam getting in danger and Dean getting all scary because of it, CAR PORN OMG, and great guest characters. SERIOUSLY. This episode kicked so much fucking ass I can't even.
Some other comments...
The line "Remind me to beat that buzzkill outta you later" could not be taken anything but slashily. SERIOUSLY. And then Sam glances between Dean and Gordon like, "Dean! He knows we're brothers! Be more subtle dude!" IT ROCKS MY SOCKS.
Jared freaking owned this episode. For some bizarre reason Dean felt slightly off to me a few times (although, he is going through SHIT, and he is supposed to be off, so...) but Sam was just ON. On on on. And he's MATURING so much!! How he doesn't retaliate when Dean punches him. His blunt but necessary honesty to Dean, paying attention to Dean more than himself in a lovely display of awareness. His ability to put "I love you, I won't leave" into Dean Language at the end. Everything. Oh, Sam. Plus, the line "You want me to throw up!" was just so fantastically delivered. I crack up every time.
Dean's "Thanks" - *flails a little* So perfect.
The cinematography in this episode!!!!! SO MANY beautiful shots. Of course the car porn at the beginning, but also the sunrise at the end, the boys with the light flooded behind them after they talk to Gordon and he drives away, the sunset and the water when the boys drive to the... warehouse I guess? I don't even know. But every single thing about this was visually stunning.
I thought Amber did a very good job with what she was given, but I wish the role had been more juicy or important. Sigh.
The whole concept of "maybe we killed some things that didn't deserve killing" is a bit daunting, and will (hopefully, if the show sticks with its awesome emotional continuity it's got goin on) continue to haunt Dean, introducing a bit more caution into his devil-may-care attitude towards hunting. Fascinating character development we've got going on here.

And dude, Back in Black has actually been my ringtone since like April or May so you know I was doing cartwheels when they used it at the PERFECT MOMENT.

I really love that they reused that particular one - it just echoes so well with the pilot, bringing back all this nostalgia. Awwww. Plus, of course, the car is actually back, and it's black! HEE. The light flare at the end reminds me SO much of Firefly, which gave me so many beautiful shots. This was just an awesome episode all around.

I loved the whole eyetalk between Dean and Sam in this ep. I didn't understand what they were talking *lol* but they definitely were talking to each other with just staring in each others eyes :O The scene between Sam and Dean after Dean killed the vampire at the warehouse. I mean sure Dean killed this guy and it was gross, but Sam never had a problem with that before... was it just foreshadowing for the episode or something else :O
