I totally need a chem geek icon.
Jan. 19th, 2007 03:54 pmOne note regarding Playthings - something everyone's bitching about when I think there's really an explanation. A lot of people are like "wtf is up with the superdoors?" and to that I say, clearly the spirit was holding them shut somehow. Because when she faded away THEN Sam was able to bust through. It was a pretty clear connection to me, and I'm a little baffled by the reaction to it. Silly fandom. But since that's well overshadowed by the OMG WE HAVE THE GAYEST/BESTEST SHOW EVER, I forgive you. *g* (PS I'm not saying it makes SENSE, but they can amke up any power they want for their MOTW, can't they? lol) (PPS It's always hot to hear Dean say "sonofabitch", so I have no objections :D)
And some awesomesauce news: I GOT OFFERED A SUMMER RESEARCH POSITION!!! *hops up and down happily* Yay! This is very exciting. I've been going through the process of talking to professors here at my school for awhile now. The original plan was to go back to Michigan State, but i realized that if I want to do independent research my senior year, I need to get started on a project now, so I have enough background to do it. This is especially in light of my going abroad to Dublin for a year and not having that time available to me to work here. So I started talking to people and Dr. Fenlon offered me a position!! I was hoping he would, because of the three I've spoken to, he's the one I'd most like to work with. There's another one, Dr. Mehl, who's kind of, hm, a bigger deal? He's a higher level prof with more funding and lots more students working for him. But. He scares me, heh. He's very intimidating and I just don't feel comfortable speaking with him, you know? And I know myself (and Mona pointed this out too) - I'm a sensitive person, and I think that working with him would actually make me miserable, regardless of the other 'objective' perks. And this other opportunity is wonderful too - I mean, I'll get some really nice one-on-one work with my professor, and I'll get a lot of hands on work in biochemistry and organic chemistry (my project has to do with DNA and, er, a bunch of technical stuff I won't get into *g*). It's a much different area than my work last summer, much closer to what I actually want to stick with, so that's excellent. I'm really excited! And it's so nice to have this locked in. Yay!
