So I've mentioned a few times that I participate a lot in my college's chapter of Oxfam. Well, this week is the big event of our semester - our Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. My best friend Michelle has been working tirelessly (ETA: I lied. She is very tired. ♥!) on this for three months, organizing events, funding, advertising, and everything that goes into a large scale event. She is amazing and I love and admire her so so much and I really want all her hard work to pay off.

For those who don't know, Oxfam is an international organization that fights hunger and homelessness world wide. It's one of the most effective and trustworthy aid organizations out there, and I'm really proud to contribute to it. One of our big events this week is a 24 Hour Fast, and we're getting friends and family to sponsor us in order to raise money to send to Oxfam.

So, my dear flist, I'm asking for your help. There are 293 people that have this journal friended (wow!!) so even if each of you gave five dollars, that would be a HUGE sum. It will ALL go directly to Oxfam International (we're keeping none of it for our own purposes) and to their myriad programs that help the poor and helpless worldwide. Such programs include: "19 Cents a Day," which feeds poor children in schools for 19 cents a day; "No Dirty Gold," a campaign against dangerous and irresposible mining techniques; ongoing aid efforts in the area struck by Katrina; relief workers and supplies in genocide-striken Darfur; and more. Clearly this is a very worthy cause, and I hope you'll contribute to our efforts!

My friend Rob has awesomely set up a Paypal donation site, so donation is easy! If you follow this link, you'll find the Paypal donation button, and you can also look around the site for more information.

SPONSOR ME TO FAST - All proceeds go to Oxfam

The donations on Paypal go into one big pot for Oxfam, so if you want to be credited as specifically sponsoring me, leave a comment here with your name (first and/or last, whatever you're comfortable with) and the amount, so I can put you on my sponsoring sheet and thank you! Comments are screened :)

Thank you for anything you can contribute! And if you want to link this on your journals, then by all means, do so! :) If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

It's a completely blind donation. Is there any way to do it so you get credit for it? Or does that even matter?

Sorry, what do you mean by blind donation? That I can't see who donated what? I think that my friend Rob can see that information. If that's not what you meant, can you clarify? And what do you mean by getting credit? (Sorry, I'm not sure how things like this work! I can ask people to comment here when they donate, and screen comments, if that's whaty ou mean?)

I just mean that when you click to donate (do it, you'll see) it just says sponsor a student...and is a paypal box. It doesn't let you say who you're sponsoring or who you (the giver) are.

It's basically just dropping anon money in a big pot, which is fine and worthwhile and all that...I just thought you were looking for people to sponsor you specifically.

Well, we are doing the specific personal sponsoring in terms of collecting cash from friends here on campus... but there isn't a way to personalize the Paypal donations, unfortunately. This is something new we're trying this year, to try to get more people able to donate, so it's not perfect! But I will add a note to the post saying that if you donate and want to be credited specifically for me, comment with your name and amount and I'll put you on my sponsor sheet. I'll also screen comments.

Thanks for point that out to me hon :)

i donated, and it doesn't much matter to me if it goes to you specifically or to the big pool; whatever works better for you. :)

pps. "tirelessly" is perhaps the wrong adjective. :P

When I am not a crazy person anymore we need to hang out lots and lots and lots.

I miss you SO SO much honey, I can't even *flappyhands* You understand. Yes. GO TO SLEEP MISSY. I should probably do the same as I have an exam at EIGHT AM what the fuck is THAT about. *grumps* However, if I could get a 95 last time on like 6 hours of sleep and A DEATHLY ILLNESS, I think I can manage it. Right? Right.

The mayor! Speechifying! Uhm. uhm! Say good things about Oxfam! And Tabor! And the terrible injustice in the world and we are but college students yet any action is necessary and people must be made aware of the tragedies! You know. In that vein.

Which reminds me I need to email Dr. Wright about choir. Blah blah.

Love youuuuu!
