Flist! I need help!

See, it's like this. I got Half Blood Prince at midnight, read the entire thing straight, sobbed my brains out at the end, but overall just didn't like the book. Thus, I haven't even picked it up since, and it's been an entire year. So my memory is a wee bit fuzzy on some stuff, and I was helping you could fill in the gaps.

So these are the things I remember:
  • Snape kills Dumbledore!!1!!1 And something about Dumbledore asking him to? And then Snape escapes into the night. Er, something like that. There was also an epic battle with Death Eaters and stuff, and I vaguely remember the name Fenrir, but not how he plays into the story.
  • Hermione shoots birds at Ron, and this is supposed to be some kind of romantic tension. I try not to gag. (They do get cuter later on though, when they're not trying to KILL EACH OTHER. Fancy that! Like there was a scene in Herbology class or something? I went "aww" a bit, I'll admit.)
  • There's an old potions textbook with nasty spells in the margins? Written by the Half Blood Prince, who turns out to be Snape. Yeah, that plot bored me rather a lot. I suppose it's important? If there's any important details there I should remember, do tell.
  • Ginny flings herself into Harry's arms and lays one on him, and suddenly they're in a relationship, never having had a real conversation "on page." The gag reflex is really hard to resist at this point.
  • Tonks looks tragic and consumptive, and it turns out to be lovesickness. For Remus. At this point it took all my strength not to engage in intestinal pyrotechnics, and/or fling my book out a window.
  • Horcruxes - there are, um, seven of them? And Voldemort like, split himself up between them? And Dumbledore and Harry did... er something, in a cave, with a rowboat, and scary things, and did they actually destroy the Horcrux? And there were lots of flashbacks to wee Voldemort getting various things (like a Hufflepuff teacup? something like that?) to be his Horcruxes (Horcruces? Horcruxi?) and this is where my memory gets a bit fuzzy. Halp!

I'm so glad OOTP the movie reinvigorated my love for HP, because OMG SO EXCITED FOR SATURDAY!!! *flailyhands* SO SOON SO SOON.

LOL! That's about what I remember about the book, so I shall definitely follow comments here. XD

I think there are seven Horcruxes and Harry needs to destroy them. Two of them are already gone, the diary of Tom Riddle (was that his name? Voldemort, anyways) and... the basilisk? One of the thingies Harry destroyed in an early book, anyways. And now they're out of Hogwarts (was it actually closed for good at the end? *scratches head*) to find the last Horcruxes.

Okay, I admit. I have no clue. *lol*

I literally just finished the book (for something like the eleventh time--I actually loved it, sorry) this morning. Heather to the rescue!

Actually, the Snape-Dumbledore thing, it's only implied that he asked him to kill him, and only if you're a Snape fan (or, like me, a person who believes Snape isn't a nice guy, but still a good guy). If you hate Snape (does anybody?), then it seems like Dumbledore asked Snape not to. Certainly, that's how Harry perceived it. Everybody really hates Snape by then, especially Lupin, it seems.

Fenrir is a werewolf named Fenrir Greyback, who happens to be the guy who bit Lupin. He mauls Bill Weasley in the end. Bill lives on, to look like Mad-Eye Moody and Fleur proves she's worth marrying when she verbally bitch-slaps Molly Weasley for thinking she wouldn't want to marry him covered in scars.

Hermione did indeed shoot birds at Ron. It wasn't actually technically romantic tension, more like Hermione succumbing to teenage jealousy. I liked that, because I like it when Hermione acts her age; she almost never does. :-/ ::snuggles poor Ms. Granger:: You don't have to be perfect all the time, hon! It's okay! The Herbology scene...hmm. The only one coming to mind at the moment is when she basically dumbstrikes Ron by saying she was going to ask him to go with her to a party, and he's appropriately ashamed of himself for making deragatory remarks about her "hooking up with McLaggen."

Ginny hugs Harry because they won the match, then he kisses her. I admit, it was annoying their relationship is never shown. Especially since Harry breaks up with her in a noble way at the end to go search for Voldemort's Horcruxes (Rowling confirmed this was the plural form of the word). He's planning to go it alone, but Ron and Hermione plan to go with him. The Trio will not be returning to Hogwarts next year, because of the all-consuming importance of this quest.

Tonks and Remus, basically as you remember it. Tonks/Lupin and Harry/Ginny were 'ships I liked a lot better before they became canon. Ah, well.

There are six Horcruxes. The seventh part of Voldemort's soul is in his body. And actually, there are only three now, since Harry destroyed one (Voldemort's diary, back in "CoS"), Dumbledore destroyed another (a ring that belonged to Voldemort's maternal grandfather), and a locket that Harry and Dumbledore went to great lengths to obtain, only for Harry to discover after Dumbledore's death that the one they took was a fake. The fake had a note inside it that said the original was taken and will be destroyed. The note's signed "R.A.B." Most fans (myself included) believe it was taken by Regulus Black. There's even a mysterious locket mentioned in the house-cleaning montage of Number 12 Grimmauld Place.

It was a goblet of Helga Hufflepuff's that young!Voldy killed an old lady to steal, but he wasn't planning to make it a Horcrux yet, or if he was, it's not explicitly stated.

Just a recap: Horcruxes are objects that contain pieces of Voldemort's soul so that he's OMG Immortal. Whatever you do to his body, he'll live, 'cause his soul's in pieces all over Britain. So Harry's gotta destroy the Horcruxes before killing Voldemort. The remaining three (four, Harry thinks) are Slytherin's locket--which was Voldemort's mommy's--and Nagini, his big skeery snake, Hufflepuff's cup and "something of Ravenclaw's or Gryffindor's."

Ahhhh. RIGHT! It's all so much clearer now, thank you very much!

Dude, you do not have to apologize for liking a book! I WISH I'd have liked it, but alas!

I knew something bad happened to somebody at the end there, besides Dumbledore, but I forgot - poor Bill! Yay for Fleur though. I hope they don't drop Bill and Fleur entirely for movie 6, though Clemence was nothing like what I thought Fleur should be - not nearly haughty or gorgeous enough. Ah well.

Right right I forgot about the Regulus thing! Pretty awesome. Thank you so much for all the details, I really appreciate it :D Now I'm totally ready for DH!

The Half-Blood Prince plot is really only important to Snape fans. Just mentioning real quick, 'cause I forgot.

Aha, lol. I never cared much either way about the guy - he's mostly just a hilarious subject for Sirius and James's (really quite horrifying) antagonism in Shoebox.

Yup. I agree with you that HBP made me bawl my eyes out, and this was one of the reasons, along with the R/Hr bird attack. If any of this were made cute from the beginning (like I found R/Hr to be in the OotP movie) or build up at all in the previous books/movies (*eyes H/G*), I'd be much more accepting.

I better get back to re-reading HBP myself, cause most of this is fuzzy to me too and I've only got two days to finish it. o_o

You know of course that I'm a huge Ron/Hermione fan. So I was happy at the developments. But before HBP, I was quite a big Harry/Ginny fan as well. And I just... really disliked the way it was in the book. It could've been so much better. They could have had the same plot, just portrayed a bit differently, and it would've worked. I am still a bit bitter about it. And I wasn't happy about Remus/Tonks, either. Nnngh. I understand that you don't like R/Hr, but at least it wasn't so horribly portrayed as H/G. GRRR it just makes me angry. I'm gonna go read good fic. :P

Maybe we'll get some decent slash in this book (I'm still rooting for Oliver/Percy, LOL) and we can all forget our differences! XD I WISH!

*shakes head, world-weary* That's what happens when you fall in love with a gay man mourning his recently dead lover. Honestly, straight girls should know so much better these days...
