exsequar: (Girlyrock - MCR - Thinkyfaces)

I just reached 30,000 plays on my last.fm. O.O

Whee! *throws confetti*

(And that's just since August 2006, which is when I get this laptop. It blows my mind when I realize how much of my life I spend listening to music. That's approximately 70 days straight of music! Over two months out of 18! Geez.)

My thirty thousandth song was Innocent and Sweet by The Cab. I meant to make it my favorite MCR song, but my attention wandered and I didn't catch it in time, whoops. Instead Heaven Help Us was my 30,001st song! :)

In the music vein, I've downloaded so so much new music over the past weeks or so, and it's kind of overwhelming! In order to really get into something and make an opinion on it, I have to listen to it REPEATEDLY, because I never *just* sit and listen to music, I'm always always doing something else, so it takes a lot of repeats for anything to really sink in. I'm afraid I won't be able to give everything it's due consideration.

For curiosity's sake, the new music I've downloaded/received includes:

Incubus - A Crow Left of the Murder (LOVE this, so far)
The Frames - The Cost
Say Anything - In Defense of the Genre and Is A Boy/Was A Boy (Courtesy of my brother, who totally has a crush on Max Bemis. Enjoyable, though probably not going to become a favorite.)
Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light (Again, enjoyable, but not very different from their other stuff. I do like their sound though.)
The Once soundtrack
Tom McRae - Tom McRae (Ugh, I love him SOMUCH. I'm so glad I got to see him live.)
Thursday - Full Collapse
The Cab - Glitz and Glamour

See? I'm so overwhelmed! *flails a little* I just keep coming back to MCR. *shameface* The only band that has managed to insinuate itself significantly in my listening patterns is The Used, and even then I only listen to them on shuffle in a playlist with all of MCR's stuff. MAYBE I'M OBSESSED? WHO KNOWS.

(I enjoy this mood icon. *stares*)

I felt the same way about JEW. Like, the album's fine, but are they ever going to do something new? I got a little bored. But oh man, Say Anything! I am kind crazy in love with them, excuse my excitement. And yay, Incubus!

And FYI on the stuff I sent you last night, I'm not sure if you downloaded the songs, but I uploaded one called Jet Black New Year, and Gerard sings on it. You probably already knew that, but hey, just in case!

Oh I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. I really liked Bleed American, and Futures was good but nothing truly spectacular, and this is just kinda like... here we go again. Ah well.

I feel like Say Anything could grow on me, if I gave it the time to! That's part of my worry, that this flood of new stuff will keep me from truly appreciating any one of them individually. I'll keep giving it a chance though! I already looove the song Defense of the Genre, which I've had for a while because, surprise, Gerard sings on it *g*

Ooh, I did NOT know that! Clearly I'm a bad fan! *listens immediately* By the way, like I said, it takes me a while to formulate an opinion on new music, but my initial response to Thursday is a thumbs up! :)

Bleed American is my favorite JEW album too, and I liked Futures but this new one is just a little too boring for me. Like, not only are they doing the same thing, but it doesn't have the same allure that Bleed American had for me. The songs just don't catch my ear the same way. Maybe I need to give it another listen, I don't know.

Yeah, I understand what you mean, I have tons of music that I own but have never really given a fair chance to. Say Anything has managed to get through to me, though, I really think Max is a genius and In Defense of the Genre was hands down my favorite album this year. If you give it some time, I really think it might grow on you, it tells a really great story and he's such a creative guy and uh I want to marry him, etc.

I didn't know the first time I heard it either, he sang on it back in 2002 when most people didn't know who MCR was. It's not an amazing vocal part, just kind of some screaming, but hey, still fun! And I'm glad you seem to be into Thursday! They're amazingly awesome.

Incubus, woooo! I'm kind of nuts about Pistola. I will cut short the squee, but awww, Incubus is close to my fangirl heart. I can hook you up with their other albums if you want.

Oh god, MORE music? haha. Do you think it would be beneficial to listen to it all together, or to get acquainted with this album before getting more?

Full Collapse is a fantastic album. I don't listen to Thursday anymore at all (mostly because the only song I liked after several years and some major life changes including the introduction of antidepressants to my life and transition to high school and some changes in some relationships I had) was "Standing on the Edge of Summer," and for some reason my computer wouldn't read it. (It did that with a small fraction of the songs I wanted to transfer. I'm not sure what happened.) But yeah, it's a great album-- gorgeous imagery in the lyrics and a ton of raw power both in the musicianship and Geoff's voice.

30,000 SONGS? HOLY CRAP. I don't really know how much music *I* listen to, cause I use Winamp and I can't really tell, but I doubt I'm ever CLOSE to that! :D Lol.

You know what I hate about this computer? I CAN NO LONGER DOWNLOAD MUSIC. Cause there's something wrong with my router, I can't define ports. Thus, I can't use sharing programs.

So unless, like, I REALLY want a cerain song and I'm willing to go look it up on google or something, I can't actually download anything. And I haven't been able for a few months, it's quite depressing. I'm making a list of Song I Need to Download. :D I really hope once I get my new computer working this problem might be solved. :D

If you like Thursday, I will gladly hook you up with their entire discography and a bunch of demos, acoustic songs, and other random Thursday goodness.

I love Thursday like I love air.

Heee. I'm definitely enjoying the album thus far, but I don't think I want any more - yet. Gonna give this one some time to grow on me. Also, [livejournal.com profile] autobearography has offered the same thing, so maybe I'll split it between the two of you :)

How many albums have they made, and when? Which is your favorite? [livejournal.com profile] autobearography also sent me random other songs and I really really like Jet Black New Year off Five Stories Falling. (And no, not ONLY because Gee hollers in the background :D) I'm just curious how this all falls on a timeline.

I've already got everything except Kill The House Lights uploaded here, so feel free to grab from there any time.

Five albums and the Five Stories Falling EP, which they don't count because it's four live songs and Jet Black New Year, which is the only new song on it. I kinda remember them telling kids to just go download Jet Black New Year.

Waiting was in 2000, Full Collapse in 2001, War All The Time in 2003, A City By The Light Divided in 2006 and Kill The House Lights in 2007. Full Collapse is probably my favorite album as a whole, but there are songs from other albums I love more than any song on Full Collapse. Full Collapse has a special place because it's the album that made me fall in love with them.

Jet Black New Year is an awesome song.
