Okay, bizarre medical question for you all. So yesterday I was straightening my hair and my right thumb went to sleep, I thought from squeezing the straightener too hard for too long. I thought it would wake up soon. Um? It still feels really weird. Almost 24 hours later o.O It's tingly and while I can feel things with it, I can't feel them as well as usual. It feels like it went to sleep and then never completely woke up again.

Has anybody had this happen to them? Will it just go away? Is there anything I can do? I'm kinda freaked out o.O

You probably damaged a nerve while you were straightening your hair somehow. I know my thumb falls asleep and starts to hurt if I squeeze the straightner hard enough.

When I started work a couple of months ago, I wore new shoes and they pinched one of my toes enough that that happened. I did some research because I was freaking out and it said it could take up to 9 weeks to come back, but it will eventually come back. The feeling in my toe came back after about 3 weeks, so hopefully this is just the same kind of thing.

Oh god, weeks? D: I don't want to feel weird writing for weeks! *sigh*

It's good to know it'll fix itself though. Thank you hon.

I know :\. It was just my toe, but it still sucked when I read that haha. But yeah, what you described it exactly what my toe felt like. If I touched it, I could feel it, but it kind of felt like there was something wrapped around it, dulling the feeling.

You'll eventually start to feel it getting it better every day. I never even noticed when the feeling came back.

I have the same problem, but it's in my whole hand and my doctor told me it was carpal tunnel. I don't know if that's what you have, but it sounds similar. I wear a brace on my hand when I sleep and that helps keep the numbness down.

I hope that helps.

yeah, you prolly pinched a nerve. my next door neighbor did the same thing when she was texting, so its not that unusual.

I've experienced something similar. You probably did just squeeze too hard and pinch the nerve and now it's partially blocked and not sending signals properly. Try wiggling it a lot and go to your health center tomorrow if it's not better by then in case it is something other than that.

Yeah, that time with my fingertips that I mentioned to you last night took a couple of weeks to go away. And when I hurt my back, my sciatic nerve was pinched which made my big toes numb for months. But it went back to normal. I'm sure yours will within a few weeks.
