I emailed the professor that I REALLY REALLY want to work with at UM asking whether I could do a rotation in his lab, and this is his reply:

Hi Anne,

I was thrilled to see your name appear on the "Accepted" list! I will absolutely hold a rotation slot for you - either for the summer or fall.

Gleeeee!! I'm SO happy and relieved and excited. I REALLY want to work in his lab, he's so brilliant and the lab itself is gorgeous and the work is so cutting edge. It even sounds like he was hoping I would ask him! Yaaaaay.

YEAH WE GOT AN A. And everybody liked it. (Our prof has us present special topics from the current literature in groups so that we get a taste of what real biochemical research is like. And the Gestwicki paper was definitely one of the best the class has seen so far, IF I DO SAY SO MYSELF.)

Nifty! I have discerned from a mere half hour with him that Dr. Gestwicki is a FRIGGIN GENIUS. Dr. Mehl (who knows him from conferences) concurs. I'm almost scared that I'm not worthy, but also super duper excited!
