New header, and boylove!

exsequarNew header! I got a little bored of the other one, but guess what! The new header is ALSO Ewan/Hayden, and the color scheme just happens to still work, so I'm keeping it :P So, not a major change in any sense, but I still like it. Now, just for my darlingnovafairy, I present you with a list of scenes from Nightrunner book 2, Stalking Darkness, that just drip with gay gorgeousness ^_^ I finally finished it, and following the list I will give you some thoughts ^_^ MAJOR spoilers for the book behind the cut, btw. Do not read if you havent read it. I warn you!
1. chapter 10, page 119 (11 pages in) - Seregil unconsciously calls Alec tali for the first time
2. chapter 13, page 137 (5 pages in) - Kari tells Micum that she saw Seregil's love for Alec in his face
3. Immediately after that scene - Seregil gets into bed with Alec, and is very uncomfortable and awkward, while Alec doesn't notice a thing. contains admiration of beautiful honey hair fanned across a pillow. gets me every time ^_^
4. chapter 14, page 152 (10 pages in) - Alec stumbles in to the green-lit brothel, where he finds an absolutely gorgeous half-naked Seregil, and cannot understand the feelings squirming through his stomach. Seregil later "rescues" Alec, with much unnecessary touching, which Alec also notices. Of course.
5. chapter 15, page 167 (last page of chapter) - Seregil innocently climbs on the back of Alec's horse, and Alec feels the strange feelings again. He's so cute and naive.
6. chapter 20, page 207 (2 pages in) - Seregil admires Alec's beautiful profile in the sunshine. Just a lovely short little passage. Alright, I'll quote it!
"Seregil looked up from a pick he'd been repairing and smiled. The slanting sunlight bathed Alec's profile as he leaned against the window frame, striking fiery glints in his hair and casting his cheekbones and the folds of his clothing into fine relief. A painter should capture him like that, all light and eagerness."
Awwww.
7. chapter 23, the whole thing - Seregil finally reveals to Alec that he's half 'faie. contains their first real hug, which is just lovely, and lots of beautiful one-on-one. I love it.
8. chapter 28, pg 276 (second to last page of chapter) - Alec's leaving for Watermead, and feels uneasy about leaving Seregil; Seregil comforts him, and Alec helps Seregil with his disguise by smudging some dirt on his cheek. Strange feelings ensue, along with much melting on the part of me.
9. chapter 41, pg 380 (3 pages in) - Poor captured and tortured Alec tries to remember good times with Seregil. The time at the brothel comes to mind. Alec blushes. Sad and poignant, but very "aww" inducing as well.
10. chapter 42, pg 388 (first page) - Seregil wakes up with tears in his eyes, filled with remorse and regret about losing Alec. And never telling him how he felt. Aw.
11. chapter 45, page 420 (second page) - A painful one. Seregil supposedly comes to rescue Alec, and there is a warm reunion (I know I was fooled), but then "Seregil" is killed. Very moving.
12. chapter 47, page 443 (6 pages in) - The real Seregil DOES find Alec this time, and although Alec is spooked at first, they end up in each others' arms and then finally, FINALLY kiss. It's lovely. Rather short, but lovely. (Did i mention how much I love the nickname tali??)
13. chapter 49, page 455 (second page) - Alec wakes up next to Seregil (aw) and suddenly agonizes "I kissed him!" And he's tempted to do it again. cutie. Again, brief, but nice. I adore Alec.
14. chapter 49, page 461 (8 pages in) - Just before the big battle, Seregil wishes Alec luck. I'm going to copy the passage, cause it's brief and actually brings tears to my eyes. (Alec calls Seregil tali back!)
" Seregil gripped Alec's arm. 'Shoot true, tali.'
Alec pressed a white-fletched arrow to his lips. 'I will, tali,' he whispered back, blue eyes glinting fiercely under the black paint.
Holding that image in his heart, Seregil hurried away after the others."
Awwww.
15. chapter 52, page 494 (9 pages in) - Seregil leaves, and is very very sad about leaving Alec. More honey hair across the pillow. Angsty, but since you know what comes up, sweet too.
16. chapter 52, page 499 (14 pages in) - Alec catches up to Seregil, argues with him, tells him a great big dolt for making the decision to deprive Alec of his presence, and then snogs him into submission. Or something like that :D

Now for my opinions...
I loved this book. I loved the first one. It's not perfect as far as plot goes (sometimes I'll stop and try to think, what is this book about?, and fail to come up with a real coherent answer) and yet it pulls me in page by page. Part of that is, of course, my eager need to see Alec and Seregil finally go at it, but at the same time the characters themselves are very compelling. I absolutely adore Alec, so sweet and naive at first, yet so quick to learn and catch on. Seregil has so many unprobed depths, I'm looking forward to finding more about him in the next book. Thero I was wondering about, thought maybe he would really be evil, but I like that he messed up and is now sorry about it. I knew he would survive, because I had peeked in book III in search of boysex (I am a bad bad girl!) but his transformation in this book is very interesting.
Then, there are the deaths. I have to admit that the slaughter at the inn (or perhaps, the aftermath, with the corpses in Seregil's rooms) affected me the most... I was really crying then. I was crying for Alec, for Seregil's pain when he found the dagger with the lock of hair, for the poor innocent people who had done nothing to deserve their terrible fate. It was a very affecting scene over all. But then when Nysander died, I just... didn't really cry. I'm not sure why. I think it was just... so ensnared in the whole chaotic battle, it was hard to muster an emotional response. My heart cried (though not my eyes) for Seregil through the rest of the book... the poor dear. And for Alec's hopelessness :( And for Micum's leg! I have to say, I love Beka though. She's quite awesome. Girl power, indeed. And I predicted quite early that she was the Vanguard - I still have doubts as to whether Micum was a Vanguard at all. Without any visions or anything. But the symbol did show up on his hand... hmm. The book wasn't very clear on that.
Another thing the book wasn't clear about was the meanings of the titles - Guardian, Vanguard, Shaft, and Guide (Unseen one). Unseen by whom? The vanguard of what? Why was the arrow in Alec's dream headless? The arrows he ended up using had very useful heads, indeed. All that was a bit blurry, and confusing.
Another thing that was a bit weird was there being three major bad guys. I couldn't focus on just one - it was like they were this mishmash of evil-ness. I thought Mardus was effective, but I never felt really afraid of them.
Ah, why am I complaining? I devoured this book. Lynn has a very nice writing style, very easy going, which I enjoy. And, of course, there is teh gay ;) Overall, an excellent book, and I'm about to dive headlong into the next! :D
