exsequar: (Dollhouse - Echo reprogrammed)

The last image of tonight's Dollhouse was MAYBE THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER.

ALAN TUDYK BE MORE FUCKING AMAZING WHY DON'T YOU. I was spoiled a while back that he was Alpha, by accident, so the big reveal was slightly less shocking, but that didn't reduce the impact of the episode or his PERFORMANCE. Holy CRAP. They say comedic actors are the most talented, and I've seen it time and again - a hilarious actor can also play heartwrenching or terrifying with incredible panache, and oh shit did Alan carry on that trend. OH MY GOD. The way he spoke to Claire! Alkdsjflksjdf chills, CHILLS. And oh, oh oh oh, him and Eliza? MAYBE THE HOTTEST THING ON THE WHOLE PLANET. Oh jeebus. ♥____♥ I was so excited to see how they would be connected, and this is SO interesting. What personality did he give to Echo? What is HIS current personality? Is it who he was before he was wiped, or is it something that the Dollhouse turned him into, his "composite"? How did he and this imprint of Echo's fall in love? HOW ARE THEY SO SEXY TOGETHER?

Pee Ess Alan was fucking ROCKING that tshirt. Om nom nom BICEPS.

Also? "Carrots! Medicinal carrots!" HEEHEEHEE.

One thing that upset me was Paul's reaction to November. He just left her there!!! Paul is becoming more and more grey - it's obvious that he's become way overinvested in Caroline herself, and has lost sight of his greater humanitarian mission to rescue ALL of the dolls. November used to be a girl, just like Echo did, but he didn't save her because she would put him in danger? Obviously that's a risk with Echo too, but he saw her and he smiled like he had found his princess. His motives are so blurry, and I found it fascinating that during his fight with Boyd I was actually maybe a little on Boyd's side! Also, Paul dragging a tasered Topher was really kind of hilarious. But yeah, there's just no moral absolutes here - Paul isn't just a good guy, and while what the Dollhouse is doing is clearly wrong, individual players within it are just so damn human that you can't hate them.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK!!!!! *bounce bounce bounce*

The impression I got was that Paul didn't save November/Mellie because he knew something about her 'sleeper active' nature. The technical details of that haven't been made clear-- will the 'vase' thing work on her even if she's in her doll state? I think that's a risk he felt he couldn't take. I agree that he's becoming really overinvested in Caroline/Echo, to the point of being a little bit creepy, but she *is* the only one he knows anything about and I think he kind of HAS to focus on her, the humanity of her that he knows from the video & photographs, to stay motivated, to not go completely insane.

I had not been spoiled that Alan was going to be Alpha, and my reaction went something like: O_O ... !!!!!!!!

HE WAS SOOOOO GOOOD! AND this means we'll probably be seeing more of him. ♥

And I am in total agreement about the t-shirt.

The thing that bothered me about Paul's response to November was that it wasn't that calculated or practical - it was a reaction of anger and betrayal and he left her there because she symbolized what the Dollhouse had done to him by making his life fake. He's taking out that anger on HER, when obviously the girl who became November is just as innocent as Caroline. I kind of get that he needs a focal point to stay motivated, but she's his ONLY focus now - he seems to have forgotten that every other doll in that place is just as deserving of rescue. He's becoming less and less sympathetic to me, which I think is fascinating and totally not the way most shows would go about this. Go Joss!

MOAR ALAN! *noms*
