exsequar: (BoB Lieb too old too fast)

Notes: For obvious reasons, Webster sneaks in here several times. I hope no one minds. ;) This is very large - 88 hi-res images. They're big thumbnails but you can click on them for the super duper hi res version. Please, feel free to use for graphics or anything you want. That's why they're here. :)

I've uploaded a zip of all my Liebgott caps: 212 of them, ~300 MB. DOWNLOAD HERE (right click, save as)

Liebgott was, of course, a Toccoa man, and here he is in their pretty pretty PT gear. I feel this cap encapsulates many of the running themes of this spam, namely 1) Liebgott has pretty lips, 2) Liebgott has adorable floppy hair, and 3) Liebgott will fuck your shit up.

Random dude not cool enough to be in Easy: "Hey we'll take your dames to the movies for ya!"
Lieb: "Good, they could use some female company!"

(Random aside: According to the real Guarnere, PT gear was actually JUST THOSE SHORTS. No shirts! Um. *brain shortcircuits* Just try to imagine all those luscious lads running around in just those tiiiny, tiny shorts. Um. Yeah. THANKS TOM HANKS YOU BASTARD. *shakes fist*)

Ahem. Where was I?

Lieb was apparently selling haircuts just before the jump into Normandy. Trufax! And apparently one of his services was the mohawk. He looks competent...? Idek. (Drive by rec: Alone Together by [livejournal.com profile] buffyaddict13, in which Joe always wanted to be a barber, and Tipper helps him get there, overcoming the scars of war. Trust me, you want to read it.)

In my favorite early Lieb scene, he hears Guarnere call Sobel a "son of Abraham". He very charmingly says "fuck!" and immediately hops out of the bunk...

...ready to rumble. And rumble he does! Somehow he manages not to be scorchingly beautiful here (I blame the ship's-innards lighting), but his penchant for throwing punches is beautifully on display. (Incidentally, another theme of this spam: Liebgott is an angry, angry Jew. With all the right in the world, obviously.)

Like most of the boys, Lieb loves to smoke. This works out well, because I love to WATCH him smoke. His little paratrooper patch! ♥

He manages to look like a completely different person with the helmet on. Especially all dirty and lined and pursed-lips like this.

Hands down one of my favorite scenes of the series.

TIPPER! TIP! TIPPER! ANSWER ME, TIP! ...lookin good, Tip. Lookin real good. Come on, you gotta sit down. Easy, easy, there ya go. Jesus. Hang in there buddy, okay? We're gonna get you fixed up, alright? Okay. Guys, you wanna give me a hand here? Come on.

Besides being an Angry Jew, Liebgott is also a man full of compassion for his friends and comrades. He may be the opposite of still waters, but he definitely runs deep. This is the eye of Lieb's storm. His kindness and warmth towards Tip are so palpable - he fights through his own shock and horror to make sure that Tip has a gentle, soothing presence there to anchor him, hopefully keep him hanging on to life. It tugs at my heartstrings something fierce. (Now go read that fic I linked! Seriously.)

Lieb also has a beautiful smile with more than a hint of mischief. Sadly it tends to be fleeting, but here he is in a rare moment of unguarded happiness, back in England... for now.

I also just love the structure of his face, and the abstraction of this image. Please note that his lips are still ridiculously red, even in the gloom.

Another Liebgott favorite. Some Germans hurt Lieb's friend, Alley, so Lieb's gotta kill him some Germans. Every last fucking one of them.

So he shoots and and he shoots. I love this image desperately because his slender, pale hand and wrist contrast so sharply with the filth of his face and the darkness of his gun.

Until Winters calls him back from wherever he went to. I love how he gently touches Lieb's wound here, how Lieb probably didn't even remember he was bleeding.

Lieb is less than pleased with the distraction from what is pretty much his calling as an Angry Jew. Is there anything more fitting than killing SS?

As usual, Winters is protecting Lieb from himself and knows exactly what to do - he gives him one bullet, not humiliating him by disarming him completely, but calmly reminding him that one bullet will do him less than nothing against 11 German prisoners.

Lieb's annoyed. Must be Tuesday.

But he listens, because this is Dick fucking Winters, and even Lieb doesn't sass him for long.

Fast forward to the Bois Jacques, where Muck (;___;) is recounting all of Easy's wounds, including the aforementioned neck wound. Lieb manages to smirk rather adorably through the cold and his own nasty stubble.

Seriously, how is a frozen little thing so adorable? I'll warm you up Lieb!

So he and some of the others (;______;) somehow make it through that living hell, and their reward is The Church of Incredibly Flattering Lighting. Lieb looks beyond exhausted - can you blame him?

Basically falling asleep in his seat, from grief and fatigue. Oh my poor woobies. :(

But make it out he did, and though some of the stubble still remains, it's a little less nasty and a little more rugged. His lips seem to have survived their up close encounter with Extreme Chapping, which is nice for me! Also, he's a bitch to Webster. Good to know he still has it in him. (That fic I mentioned up there, which kind of defines how I see Lieb, says that Lieb hangs around Web after Bastogne because Web wasn't there and therefore doesn't remind Lieb of it every five seconds. I thought that was a really nice observation.)

He also seems to have retained his youthful complexion and delightfully floppy hair (though I'm pretty sure I don't want to know how greasy that shit is at this moment).

So I like him drinking things. Sue me.

Somehow Lieb and Web look so conspiratorial here. Something about how Lieb's hips are canted towards Web. :D (Hi Babe hi!)

Sometimes the light hits Lieb just right and the planes of his face are thrown into such gorgeous relief. Mmm.

Web demonstrates his extensive education at the School for Acting With Your Mouth Open. It's kind of adorable, bless him. He also tries waaaay too hard to get back into the guys' good graces. ♥

I adore the composition of this one.

Again with the planes of the face. Pretty little broken Liebgott. :(

At least broken Liebgott is in good broken company, in a decimated platoon with Malarkey as their sergeant. I just want to cuddle them all. :( And now they all have to go on that stupid patrol :(((

But apparently he can still bust out with grins like this! Oh I am so pleased. Hallo darling lovely boy, I have missed you! Such a boyish grin to welcome Perconte back.

Oh hello, newly showered Lieb! I can now safely daydream about running my hands through your persistently floppy hair. And, um... hi, your lips! Um. :D

He just has such an interesting face. It seems to look different in every light he's in.

For some reason, he feels compelled to squeeze Web's bicep and ask if he's been working out. Um? I have no idea, but I also have no objections. :D

He follows it with such a fond gaze! It's moments like this that make it clear that Lieb's teasing of Web isn't malicious - I think he just does it to feel alive, normal again.

After the briefing about the patrol, Lieb gives Web a pretty significant gaze.

Web responds by mentioning to Winters that there's two translators on the patrol, thereby getting Liebgott off the hook. I choose to believe that Web did want to do that for Lieb, and wasn't trying to weasel out himself - he may be a bit daft, but he has to have SOME sense of what Lieb went through at this point.

Lieb proceeds to make my heart very happy...

...by WINKING.

I love him sfm. :DD

Later, Lieb makes himself quite at home on Web's bunk. I'm just sayin'.

After the rather disastrous patrol, and Easy's finally getting moved out of Haguenau, Webster seems to have successfully redeemed himself in Lieb's eyes. In a rather anvilicious parallel to the beginning of the episode, Web goes to get on the truck. Lieb watches with a fond little lib-bitey smile...

...and offers a hand. Say it with me: AWWW.

There's some adorable manhandling.

And of course Lieb smacks Web in the ass on his way by. Ugh, him. ♥__♥

In Thalem, Germany, some of the Easy boys watch as the Germans try to clean up their town. Everyone's looking fabulous, Lieb particularly so. Now with bonus Nix and Luz!

Eeeeee! I have a lot of caps of this scene because I think it's my favorite of Lieb's. I know he's trying to tamp down the trauma, but he just seems so normal here, like he actually believes they'll make it out alive. He's chatty and full of smiles, talking at length about his future, filled with a Mrs and little Liebs.

He's also clean. It's a bit of a revelation.

He demonstrates what the future Mrs will possess in terms of... assets. This cap is amazing because of Webster's FACE. He can't believe what he's hearing! Lieb is so CRUDE! Poor delicate Harvard boy. :D

They have a bit of a staredown over the Harvard thing. I love Lieb's bewilderment that Web hasn't graduated, like it completely tilts his worldview. I love Web's defensiveness, like he's worried Lieb will think less of him. They are such boys!

Lieb is also marvelously profane in this scene. I just love hearing him say 'fuck', okay? Sue me!

Favorite favorite faaaaavorite. *chinhands*

Alksdjflkjsd Web's little set jaw! AW STUBBORN ADORABLE BOYS. The pigtail pulling! <333

I absolutely adore this moment - Eion and Ross actually step on each other's lines! They recover beautifully though, silently agreeing to just carry on, and it's amazing.

You guys, Lieb LOVES to read. Flash Gordon and Dick Tracy, mostly!

"Yeah! Fuck." Web is so fond, and Lieb is so Lieb! Lighting up and cursing. One of my favorite moments - please feel free to judge me. :D

Unfortunately, footloose and fancy-free Lieb isn't to last very long. He's given the heartrending task of translating for the poor prisoners at Landsberg, and you can see it eating away at whatever innocence is left in his eyes.

I... yeah. :(

And then they fucking ask him to tell the prisoners to GO BACK IN THE CAMP and I almost can't handle this scene. Ross is so incredibly pitch-perfect here, just haunted. (And not to be completely shallow, but he also looks amazing.)

Yeah, no words.

Oh love. :(

Lieb later hides inside a truck tire that's bigger than him. I really can't blame him. (I also like to call this cap, "Hey, the sun exists again!")

\o/ Berchtesgaden fuck yeah! \o/

I am slightly unnerved by how Lieb seems to be STARING INTO MY SOUL. He also bitches at Shifty in this scene, and it makes me sad in my heart. Poor broken Lieb. Poor innocent Shifty. :(

Hoo boy. Let's talk about anger and revenge and damaged souls.

Someone seems to have cut Lieb's trademark floppy locks! This makes me sadface, but not as much as seeing Lieb simmer with so much pure rage and unrestrained need for violence.

Lieb and Web get right in each other's faces, which, ngl, is really effing hot. Web's trying so hard to rein in the hurricane that is Lieb, but good luck sweetie - I'm afraid not even Winters could pull that off right now.

Skinny is delightful in this scene, I must say. Just all *SIGH* in the background. <3

Lieb, of course, cannot be stopped, and he goes in waving his gun at the accused Nazi.

Web hovers warily while Lieb sizes the dude up.

And continues to make me find homicidal rage inappropriately attractive. Damn you, Liebgott!

This escalates quickly to exactly where you knew it was going.

Web goes outside, hands shaking, for a calming smoke. Skinny makes sad faces behind him.

Lieb bursts outside, a blur of kinetic energy and intent to kill.

He hollers at Web to shoot.

Web won't.

But guess who will?

Now that's one awkward ride home. Their solemn little faces. :(

I just love this little moment. I think Lieb is worried about what Web thinks about him now. He's coming down from his high of righteous anger, realizing just how deep his spiral has gone. Web is someone smart, someone he respects, and he's worried about how Web perceives him now. Aw, boys. I'm rather fond of them - could you tell?

Random gritty cap of Lieb showing discomfort as Speirs (sexily) threatens and (hotly) pistol-whips the asshole who shot Grant. Lieb. Is showing discomfort with violence. Yeah, wow. They are all so fucking done, it's not even funny.

Lieb puts his damn cap on (his haaair!) but is still very purty in the sunshine.

And also smugly pleased by Winters's Sobel smackdown, as he should be. :D

This time, Lieb (in the company of the OT3 of command hotassery, unfff) gets a more agreeable translating job.

The German general's speech is really quite beautiful, and I like it a lot better than if Winters had made some big speech to Easy, cause that's just not his way. But the German dude says everything we feel about the Easy boys - they've shared foxholes, they've held each other through the worst shit imaginable.

Lieb agrees. Dude might be a Nazi, but the German boys have been through the same crap ours have. It's a lovely, poignant moment acknowledging the universal hell and unparalleled bonding power of combat. And I'm really happy that Lieb gets to have that moment. He went through such a thrashing in Why We Fight and Points, I'm very glad that they gave him this as his last character beat. Not at peace, but maybe capable of healing.

So the lovely Joe Liebgott goes off into the sunset with the remainder of Easy, laughing and skinny and alive. This moment is so bittersweet to me, knowing the hell Joe went through when he went home - he didn't even tell his family he was back from the war. But ultimately, he made a life for himself, became a barber, fell in love and made those little Liebgotts. He didn't attend the Easy reunions, which makes me very sad, but it's understandable. The war probably hit Joe in places a little deeper than others - he was already a little brittle and angry, but as a Jew having to liberate a concentration camp... well. He spent his time in the war putting a bullet in every German he could, and I don't think that can help but do something to a soul. I just think it's amazing he made it at all, and lived to have the life he did.

In all my rewatching of Band of Brothers, Liebgott has continually stood out to me. He's beautiful and entertaining, but he's also one of the most wrenching and painful characters in the whole series. I'm deeply impressed by (Scottish!) Ross McCall's performance. I hope I've managed to at least do him some justice with this catalog of his story. And I hope that you all enjoyed it. More to come. :)

Lieeeeb. *draws hearts* You're welcome!

I haven't decided yet. I'm not sure I have enough caps of Luz to do him justice, but I will probably do at least a small one eventually. I will do some underrepresented characters because so many people are fond of them (Grant, Tab, Martin, etc). I'll probably do something like Lip next though.

Yay Mama Lip!

And yes, I look forward to a picspam of the under-represented characters, too. I'm still having difficulties telling Tab and Grant apart at times (they have similar dorkfaces, what).

Haha! Right now I want to say "But they don't look alike at all!" but that's coming from the girl who was like "Grant who?" after her first go through. So let's have a very mini spam to help you out in the meantime!

This is Tab. He's got a pretty, boyish face:

And this is Grant. He's got a wider face, smaller features:
