For every ending, a new beginning

I just finished Dollhouse. I thought that was quite lovely, though surprisingly... quiet for an end to what is arguably Joss's biggest idea to date. But he does love his characters and emotionally exquisite grace notes, so I can't really say I'm surprised. It just didn't feel terribly epic, for all that they saved the world, but I'm okay with that. As always, the characters are why I come and the characters are why I stay, so I appreciate them being the focus.

I started crying when Echo broke down about Paul. I thought Eliza did an amazing job with that scene, with the misdirected rage at Priya and then just falling apart into a sobbing, broken ball. I actually thought she did a great job in the episode as a whole. Eliza definitely did her best work on this show as the ever-complex Echo, and I'm glad we got to see a lot of that this season. I was never super invested in Paul, so I'm glad he's the one that Joss chose to kill (because come on - this is a Joss finale), and Echo's emotional fallout was great to watch. And now he's living in her head, aw.

Priya and Tony were SO PERFECT. ♥_____♥ Their adorable little child! Their tiff because Priya just wants Tony home and Tony just wants to protect her! They love each other TOO MUCH! *flappyhands* Priya was just so lovely the whole episode, major props to Dichen. And when she introduced T to his daddy.... eeee! Definitely more tears flowing then. Cutest family ever Y/Y?!?! ♥

ALPHA!!! That was so delightful! Completely unnecessary, but hey, ALAN TUDYK. And it was so great when he showed up all creepy and shit and then gave warm hugs to everyone. Hahaha! Typical Joss, love it. Alan was really nice here, all scruffy and worn but still with his zaniness.

I loooved Felicia Day and the dude playing Zone, again. He was so funny, and she was so... Felicia! She had a crush on Maurissa! HOW DELIGHTFUL! :D I c wut u did thar Jossy. <3333

My favorite part by far was TOPHER AND ADELLE. *clutches heart* She loves him so much, and she feels so responsible for what he is now, and she is just so tender with him. It makes me flail around and make little squeaky noises. She was feeding him soup! I just. Augh, my hearrrrt. And then he went and he sacrificed himself for the world and I'm just - *flap flap*. Topherrrrr. :( Adelllle. :( She has always been a million kinds of awesome, but the tender loving side of her is so beautiful to see. I adored her hug for Echo too, aw. And when Topher found his little hole fill of ideas and scribblings, Adelle was so fond and and. SIGH MY HEART.

I definitely think Topher was the best Joss creation to come out of this show. And hey, I loved him from the very start! I knew he was all amoral and shit, but he was the most entertainingly Whedony, and I KNEW that he was not just a shell of a person, like he might be on another show - I knew Joss had ~plans for him. And hoo boy, was I ever right. This season has been the Topher Season, and I am completely down with that. Fran Kranz is a geeeeenius and I just hope we get to see him again some time soon.

It's really interesting that the finale felt so disconnected from the rest of the season, but Epitaph One bridged that gap nicely. I would wonder what people watching this who didn't manage to catch Epitaph One thought, but I'm pretty sure that brand of casual fan isn't even around anymore. Overall, this was a nicely optimistic sendoff to a show with such a pessimistic concept, but in the end human good triumphs. Do I believe that? Not really. But it was nicely done.

Thanks, Joss, for a couple years of unique and thoughtful television. Now... go get a cable gig! Shoo! Love you! ♥

You know, there were many things in this show I disliked, but I've watched it to the end. I have to say, that the Priya/Tony stuff made me very happy - I've liked the idea of them since they were reading together on that sofa in season one.

It was nice to see Alan Tudyk. But then, it's always nice to see him. :)

I have to say I really dug Zone, and kind of wish he could have been around for longer. Actually, there is a part of me that really wants to know everything that happened between 2010-2020 and what happens next.


As for Adelle and Topher - they are a family. Some have suggested that they were lovers before he went insane. . .but, I always saw them as more brother/sister or even Adelle being his mother-figure. But then, I see Adelle as not just the hbic, but also the mother of the group. Besides, I think that Topher started to lose it when Bennett was shot in front of him, then he went even more 'unbalanced' when he learned of his part in the end of the world. So. . .yeah. I loved Topher. And, Adelle was a class act.

I will say, I'm still not a huge fan of the Paul or Echo characters, but to see the end of everyone else. . .well, it was worth it. The show was always looking at the darker/seedier sides of human nature, so it was nice for it to end showing us the better sides of human nature.

Priya and Tony were super cute. I was special and hadn't watched any of S2 (although I had seen Epitaph 1) so I got that part. And I think for Joss fans there is no such thing as a casual fan. I was sad about Paul (knew someone would die in a Joss finale) mostly because I still love him from his Helo days.

WHAT'S UP WITH JOSS ALWAYS KILLING MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS? And by that I mean, Topherrr. ;__; Paul wasn't exactly my favorite (understatement) but I loved the emotional impact his death had with Echo. Eliza was great with that. Priya and Tony ♥___♥ THEIR LITTLE BOY. But mostly, Adelle and Topher, UGH MY HEART. I loved their relationship the most.
