exsequar | Band of Brothers Hi-Res Picspams, Part 2: Doc Gene Roe

Here we go again! I just want to say one thing about these spams - this really is about pulling together high quality still images, so it's not so much about recapping the whole story (which you all know backwards and frontwards, anyway). As such, large chunks of story are missing, particularly action sequences which just don't cap well (or at least don't benefit from HD). So I'm sorry if that throws you, but hopefully the pretty is worth it!

Here he is, folks. Doc Gene Roe, he of the Perpetually Worried Little Face and Healing Hands and Profoundly Sexy Voice. We all love him, kind of a whole lot. ♥

I know we're talking about D-Day and all, but come on, not EVERYONE has their brows all scrunched up!

For some reason he looks really... young here. Like a kid caught playing in the dirt, got it all over himself. This is only the first of many lovely moments between Doc and Winters - so much respect there, on both sides.

Please ignore the massive pause symbol I just now noticed, d'oh. Please instead focus on how intent and gentle Roe is, treating such a little wound. (N'aw, Dick, you and your ricochet! ♥)

Ahaha, a different kind of scrunchy face! I might point out that Roe's deep southern lilt is on FULL display in this scene, for the first time in the series. UNFFFF.

I really love him without his helmet. It makes the lines of his face so much clearer, sharper, elongated. And you can't forget the shock of blue-black hair, siiiigh so pretty.

His befuddlement here is so damn cute. He and Winters share a look that's all "Idunno!" Hee.

For some reason the way Roe touches Winters's arm here is so precious. He's always in gentle caretaker mode, and it makes me flaaail. :D

What was that I was saying about gentle? Uhm. Well to be fair he's still in caretaker mode, only pissed caretaker mode because SOMEBODY fucked up.

Sorry for the surprise!mauled!Alley, but I couldn't not put this cap in. One - look at those colors. Two - HANDS HANDS HANDS. One of the more literal images of Roe's magical calming and healing hands. Again and again, injured men are panicked and terrified, but one touch from Roe soothes them like skittish horses. It's quite awe-inspiring.

Even when people are only freaking out on the inside, Roe just knows. And brings them coffee.

Seriously, these two. I don't even know.

HE'S SO FOND OF HIS DOC. (No, no, I don't ship them, but I think their mutual respect and caring is just the most lovely thing ever.)

Many of these caps are going to be Roe looking Cute and Cold. As such my commentary may be a little lacking and/or one-note - OMG LOOK HOW ADORABLE. But I think you all get it. :D

But he is still so, so fond of the boys, and they of him. I wonder if he keeps a bit of a distance to make doing his job easier? Or if he's just that solitary? Or do the boys treat medics differently?

Doc Roe still needs your shit, dammit. Boy's not gonna stop til he gets some shit to fix your sorry asses with!

HELLO RENEE!! I have such a girlcrush on her, you guys.

She too has Magical Healing Hands of Wonder. Look at Skinny's little faaace!

I am somehow really fond of the random big drip of water on his helmet.

But even more fond of his little attempt-at-reassuring smile. <333

He then follows Renee around like a cute little puppy, gathering shit to take back with him. He's dismayed by bed sheets ripped up for bandages, but dude, you had to practically carry out a raid on a foxhole to get yer damn sizzuhs. Count your blessings! They don't have clean bedsheets everywhere!

THEY ARE SO CUTE. ♥____;

Roe has stolen boots off a dead guy for Toye because he is made of win and motherly awesome.

Renee is made of sunlight and lavenders and kindness. After the months of dirty, rough men, she really is a sight for... not quite sore eyes, but certainly a change of pace anyway.

And she even makes Roe smile! With CHOCOLATE! She can stay! (;_;)

Martin has told Roe that because he's just a wussy medic, he has to stay behind. Well FINE, Roe says, but I DON'T HAVE TO BE HAPPY ABOUT IT! >:(

Poor little Babe has just lost his old buddy Julian. According to Babe's book, he and Julian trained together and they made a pact that whoever survived the other would take their things to their family. So besides losing his friend, Babe has also been unable to fulfill their pact. My heart is all clenchy. :(

Roe, of course, notices. His 'EMOTIONAL TURMOIL' radar is pinging like crazy.

Babe appears to be a little angry too because Roe couldn't save his buddy. Grief isn't rational. :(

Of course the logical thing to do is sniff some chocolate. Of course!

So Babe is looking rather lifeless, held sweetly by Spina who seems to feel rather helpless.

CHOCOLATE??? :D? :D? Ahahaha. All I can think in this scene is that Lupin would totally approve!

There's life in the old boy yet, aw.

Roe and Spina have a lovely little chat. Roe is SO proud of his grandma the traiteuse, it makes me flap and beam. Awww. <33

Sleepy cold little boys. :( Some shots like this remind you of how fucking insane it is that they slept like this, every night, for weeks. How did they survive??

Roe pops out of the rabbit hole and looks all pretty-like in actual, honest-to-god SUNSHINE. Wow!

Roe goes back to the aid station to sadface some more, and gaze at Renee and get more sizzuhs or something.

Then he sticks his hand inside a dude's chest, as the circumstances dictate, obviously. He tries SO HARD. D:+

This may be one of my favorite images in the whole series. She looks like a porcelain doll, all pale skin and flushed cheeks and ruby lips, but she's also suffused with enormous grief.

Did you know his lips could get any more pursed? I sure didn't. Must be pretty upset. :(

I just - HER. Girl really needs a hug.

This is such a gorgeous scene. I know Renee was one of the biggest fictionalizations of the series, but I fully understand why they did it - moments of quiet and humanity within the incomprehensible horror of Bastogne, and I really think it adds something to the series as a whole. And now I'm going to let this series of caps speak for itself.

"God would never give such a painful thing."

Sigh. And look at his uniform - he's covered in blood. He has to wear that for weeks.

The toll's really starting to show, as he takes a few seconds to reply to a man directly yanking him out of a foxhole.

Then it's back to the aid station to look, surprise surprise, sad and worried.

Renee feels your pain, dude.

Because Babe is a complete sweetheart, and has realized that maybe the doc needs as much care as he gives, he brings Roe some chow. Aw.

Roe doesn't react much. Too busy >:(ing.

lksjlfsns seriously. How does a human being survive that?

One more return to the aid station, ostensibly for a hot meal. He gets a hot mess instead. :( I find this cap a little startling in all its color. Such a strange notion in Bastogne.

Roe seeks solace in the only place that has provided any other than Renee: Babe. Babe informs Roe that the nasty gash on his hand was, in fact, caused by Roe himself!

*GASP* NO WAI!

Conflicty emotions! Epic sadfacing! Augh!

Babe's brain seems to finally catch up and he is pleased to note that Roe actually called him - shock! - BABE! :D

Roe is a little befuddled,

but fond and amused as well. Aww, boys.

Babe is really, really pleased by this.

And a quiet moment while Roe uses his dead girlfriend's hankerchief to patch up his boyfriend's hand, which HE wounded. Wow. Talk about issues. Our poor little doc. :(

Then there's pretty much an entire episode without much Doc, but he makes it through somehow, despite all the heroics, and survives to be well-lit in the Church of Extremely Flattering Lighting. That ends our complete glut on all things Roe, but he pops up now and again through the rest of it!

For example when a poor Toccoa man gets it just cause he was carrying some potatoes. :(

But hey, he does some singin with the boys! N'aw!

And cleans up reeeeal purty. No dust on his jump wings or anything! \o/ (Hi Tab! Hi Johnny!)

He also hangs around to do the shitty jobs like carry the plasma for poor Grant. :(((((( (SDflks;dlkjsd SPEIRS.)

His poor little serious face is back. Still cute, but he should have gotten to put that away. :((((((( (SPEIRSSSS)

Luckily, because Speirs is a badass mofo, Chuck makes it and Roe gets to be a little carefree again, all pretty in the sun.

And there goes our boy, our beautiful half-Cajun all-compassion doc. I'm kind of fond of him and his sizzuhs and his amazing voice and his amazing EVERYTHING. ♥♥
