GERMANY!!!! ♥___________♥

That was such a DELIGHTFUL game of football! It was so much fun to watch, from start to finish. Germany has really busted out of the starting gate and quieted a lot of the doubters! They're a serious contender for the trophy now, and I could not be more happy. This is why I fell in love with this team - they play football as the "jogo bonito" (beautiful game) which was the motto we used on my high school team. The precise passing, the amount of thought and intelligence that goes into their play, it's just a joy to watch for any true football fan.

My boy Lahm put on a very strong show, which makes me very happy since it was his first WC game as the skipper! It's funny because even though he's a defender, he's almost better on the attack, using his ridiculous speed to get everywhere at once and deliver astonishing material to the strikers. His cross to Klose's head was utterly magnificent! So glad to see him in top form. ♥

Also very very glad that both Poldi and Klose put in goals in the first half - so much talk has gone around about their poor club performances, and rightly so perhaps, but it seems that they both feel energized and comfortable playing on their national squad and just immediately pick it up. It's a bit inexplicable, especially that it's BOTH of them, but I'll take it since I'm a national team fan and don't follow the Bundesliga! (Though I might have to start...)

Schweinsteiger was good and steady in the middle field, a more than able replacement for Ballack. I'm also just ridiculously charmed by him in general. He did seem to end up on the ground a lot - not sure if he was doing some diving, or if Australia was just marking him really close and so he ended up getting challenged more than others? I think the red card against Cahill was atrocious though - very very bad refereeing, and I feel so sorry for Australia that they also lose their star player for the next couple matches. But I heard that Schweini went to Cahill and said he disagreed with the ref, so at least they're being sportsmanlike.

And the new faces are really making a splash already! Much has been made of Özil's performance, which was definitely impressive, creating a lot of opportunities up front and especially one almost-goal. Müller was also phenomenal - his assist to Poldi was GOLDEN. I just loved how everyone was rushing forward, and he turned the momentum around on a dime, catching the defenders all on the wrong foot and perfectly setting up Poldi to SMASH it into the net. SUCH FOOTBALL, MY GOODNESS. *___*

Only weakness is in defense - Australia didn't test it much, but it seemed a bit shaky. Hopefully they'll work on that in the next couple group matches and be ready to take the first serious opponent they run into (which may be Argentina).

For my own memory: Germany 4-0 Australia. Yay!

THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN. I want to download it and watch it five more times! (Any ideas as to how I could do that? :D?) I don't waaaanna wait five days for another match! *whine*

Does anyone care about spoilers regarding match outcomes? Is anyone watching delayed for some reason? Just let me know, and I'll keep my spoilery reactions behind a cut from now on. For this one I just couldn't contain myself! Also, if you don't know Germany won yet, let me congratulate you on that large rock you're under!

Oh and does anyone know of any fun World Cup blogs? I found one that's been delighting me endlessly: Dirty Tackle. I'd love to hear of others though! I am fully in the throes of World Cup Fever and need something to feeeeed me other than refreshing FIFA and ESPN and BBC all the time!

To add a bit of visual ~flair to this post, I'd also like to point out that Germans are the MOST ADORABLE CELEBRATORS. My gosh! The long, squishy hugs, the tackling and head rubbing and general fondness is SO SWEET. I know football celebrations are generally homoerotic, but man, the Germans ADORE each other.

Klose says "MY Lahm, not yours. MINE." Completely understandable, given the sdflkjslkjfd BRILLIANCE that was Lahm's cross to him!

But Poldi says, well then Klose, YOU are MINE!! SMIIIISH! Which makes Lahm Poldi's step-child? Or something? IDK THEY ARE JUST ALL SMISHY AND LOVELY.

And in a moment of delightful Schweinski-ness, Schweini runs up and stakes his claim on Poldi. No one would expect aaaany less. :DDD

TEEEEAM.

And if you REALLY don't care about Germany, well, I give you the MOST DELIGHTFUL REF THERE EVER WAS. He PRANCES.

Are you sure? They didn't play the match on ESPN3 originally because ABC aired it - that's where I've been watching all the other matches. I'll check that out though.

lol no he's just grown up. Our commentator reminded us a few times that Poldi remains Poldi but Schweini is Herr Schweinsteiger now!

ANNE! OMG. ANNE!!!1111

Sorry. Still incoherent (and possibly drunk). I can't even. OMG. DID YOU SEE THAT? Yes of course you did. OMG OMG. Okay *coughs* I try to do more talking and less "OMG"s and "!"s now!

It's like, really, we are a "Turniermannschaft" (tournament-team). Some of the matches we played before were v.v.v. weak. Not nice to look at, boring, blah. But when it comes to the WC or the important games (aka qualification-match against Russia) we are there. I don't know how exactly and why because two years of bad football just for (hopefully) four weeks of awesome football? WELL. Whatever they want. :p IT'S WC, baby.

Lukas and Miro? ♥ Aw, my heart. First this hammer of Lukas. My o my. What a goal. So much power. - And then the Miro!Goal. AWWWWWWWWWW. It was so funny because three minutes before the goal a friend of me was all "BLABLA damn Klose, blabla, Löw we want Cacau, bla" and then wuuuush and he said "Thanks Miro, that you make me shut up. :)" YAY. THANKS Philipp, of course. Great pass. Funny enough, the last goal Miro scored in the Bundesliga was exactly like that. Pass from Philipp and then a header. Heee.

so much talk has gone around about their poor club performances, and rightly so perhaps
I haven't seen much of Lukas this season since he isn't playing for my team anymore but yes, he only scored two or three times and he played most of the time. Miro (who plays for my team) had his chance at the beginning of the season where he was striker #1 but he was very weak. Imho he wasn't playing ONLY bad but he just wasn't good enough in front of the goal. And. Well. Striker? In the end of the season he mostly only played for the last 15 - 20 minutes and we often were leading already so the team wasn't as ambitious as before which didn't give him much chance.

Ohhhhh. Basti. <3 He is great in this position now. At the beginning of the season I wasn't so sure if he can play that but oh what an amazing season he played and now he just continues.

But you're right, Özil was so *there* the whole game. I like his style of playing very much.

Oh Müller. Thomas. My wee one. :D I think I *died* when he scored as well!!

So I need to get fit for uni now. My hangover is still bothering me. ttyl. :)

Now. What I totally forgot to say: I have the game (1,3 GB). But only in German, haha. Because I'm a geek and I tape all the games. - Don't know where to find it in English, though. :(

Oh and the pics? PURE GOLD. I already saved like 50 and wanted to do a picspam. But... I don't know when, lol. I already decided to go to uni a bit later maybe, when I'll be able to open Photoshop... *whines*

STEFFI!!!!1!1! I'm so glad i have you to flail with about these boys! :DDD

It is a little strange how the World Cup is this unique event where the team "decides" to shine! Why can't they do that all the time? Oh well, it makes for an exciting World Cup for sure!

It's so good to see Lukas and Miro teaming up up front! You know, none of the guys really look that much older - Miro's face is a bit thinner, but otherwise it's like Germany 2006 all over again. Which is totally not a bad thing! <3

I'm glad to hear Basti at least was good in club play! I've heard people rumbling about how he and Poldi aren't buddy-buddy anymore because of how differently things happened in club play for them... do you think that's true? If so it makes me really sad, because they're so sweet together. :(

YAAAAAY GERMANY! \o/

It seems that Poldi got kinda pissed at the media for the whole Schweinski thing. When the interviewer asked if they're getting a divorce, he says they were never 'married', and the hearts of all Schweinski shippers everywhere broke into a million pieces. D:

They'll always be my OTP though.

And apparently, there was some rivalry, with both wanting to play left attacking. Of course, that they then brought Luca Toni didn't help.

I'm probably the only person here in Germany who doesn't care about soccer at all. But I'm amazed how many Non-Germans on my flist are fans of our team :)

I'm sure there's a handful of others. ;) It's because your team is SO DELIGHTFUL! If anyone doesn't have strong ties to their own national team, it's highly likely they'll graduate to the young, gorgeous, and supremely talented German squad. It's only natural. :D

I'm especially amused by that high percentage of goals considering the OUTRAGE that went through all of Germany when it turned out Ballack couldn't play. I mean, they seem to be doing just fine without him. Go team!

Would you term it as outrage? I would say despair! Because it's not like they could be *mad* at him for getting hurt, just upset.

But it is delightful that despite all the doubtful head shaking going on about this "young, inexperienced German squad" before the game, they came through and played like they had been playing together forever. It was gorgeous! *__*

Oh, hands down the best so far. Today there were good games from the Netherlands and Italy/Paraguay, but nothing that approached the sheer sublime beauty of how the Germans played. I just hope they keep it up!

AHH LAHM SMISHING. IT IS MY FAVORITE ACTIVITY. I wish I could partake! *g*
