I'm thankful for Bucky Barnes

I had a truly wonderful Thanksgiving. Drove with my dad and sis and uncle up to see our beloved cousins who all live in a tiny town an hour away. Our Thanksgivings are marvelously low key AND delicious, a wonderful combination IMO. Almost everyone is a wonderful cook and the food is simple yet scrumptious, while the company is even better. We stayed for hours drinking and chatting (and debating about ISIS and gun laws, though that wasn't terrible - we all come from the same place of compassion on all those issues, we just have somewhat different perspectives.) My amazing cousin Meg and I spent a while talking about books and audiobooks which was delightful. I convinced her she MUUUUUST read The Martian, as she enjoys 1) books and 2) science, so you know, SHE SHOULD READ THE MARTIAN. I can't wait for her reaction. She also showed us her new location for her incredible small business dyeing gorgeous yarn (Twisted Fiber Arts, look it up fiber people!). Unfortunately it wasn't a good reason for a new location - her last place was destroyed due to a fire in the restaurant next door, so it's been a rough restart. The new place is basically a huge metal shed.... that used to be a porn studio. YUP. But it's actually an awesome open space and they've really made it their own. She's so fuckin awesome. I hope to be half as awesome when I'm 40 something.

I ALSO SAW THE CAP 3 TRAILER AND I'M FREAKING OUT OKAY!!! FREAKING OUT!!!!!!I am coming down firmly in the OMG IT'S ALL ABOUT BUCKY I AM SO HAPPY camp, just so you know. Please don't harsh my squee. I know it's not an ideal situation - WE SHOULD NEVER HAVE CIVIL WAR AT ALL - but if it had to happen, this was the only outcome I was willing to accept, AND IT'S HAPPENING!!!! STEVE'S GONNA BURN DOWN THE WORLD FOR BUCKY!!!!! I CAN'T HANDLE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

ALSO BUCKY REMEMBERS TINY INTIMATE DETAILS ABOUT SKINNY!STEVE AND YOU GUYS WE HAVE COME SO FAR FROM "BUT I KNEW HIM" I AM GOING TO CURL INTO A FETAL POSITION AND CRY FOREVER BECAUSE BUCKY!!!!!!!!!! *sobs*

Ahem. So there's that. I hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving too! <3

that was a lot of my reaction too. (with a side of DON'T KILL RHODEY.) just... BUCKY! REMEMBERING SKINNY STEVE PUTTING NEWSPAPERS IN HIS SHOES! AND STEVE'S SAD LITTLE FACE OF RELIEF AND RECOGNITION! AND STEVE READY TO BURN THE WORLD TO ASHES FOR HIM! i was so overcome my capslock got stuck.

i am SUPER CURIOUS what bucky's been up to between the end of catws and whenever they find him in cacw, and how he remembered everything - and if he remembered everything - and i can only hope we get some of that.

Ugh, those specific memories just hit me RIGHT IN THE HEART because how many fics have talked about those exact things?? About those tiny details of their life together being the touchstone that keeps them both grounded, to the world and to each other? And it's the OPENING OF THE TRAILER. Leave me to die.

I am also very curious about that! I am encouraged by Russo comments that that scene comes in the middle of the movie, so we're going to see how Steve finds him, and thus hopefully some of Bucky's journey, though maybe he'll only tell us about it after the fact? I reeeeeally hope we get to see some of Bucky slowly coming back to himself, having super confusing flashbacks to his real life, slowly piecing together what's Bucky and what's the Soldier. Gah. I need it! I need it all!!!

i did read it! i figured since it was just commentary on the trailer it wouldn't have spoilers, so i could check it out. and yeah, it was reassuring. it's always nice to read the directors talking about the movie and get a better idea of what they wanted to do.

and the big emotional moment at the end of catws hinged on "i'm with you 'til the end of the line", which is another personal little moment. i love that the movies are giving us those random touchstones for bucky, to bring him back to himself and help him remember who he was and who steve was and what they are to each other. i love that they're random little things that don't necessarily stem from big huge events in their lives.

bucky's journey after catws would be a whole movie in itself, i think. no one's ever going to make it, and it would probably be wrenching, but still. the fact that steve doesn't find him until halfway through the movie suggests that we could at least get a little of him on the run. i hope i hope.
