exsequar: (Rent mimi & roger)

I loved this movie. LOVED. Loveloveloveloved!!! It's already in my top ten and I've only seen it once! I had tears in my eyes for a good 75% of the movie, and was outright crying for a good portion of that. I love movies that can affect me that powerfully. I still have a headache from the crying!

Parts that made me cry (not necessarily in chronological order):
  • The very beginning, with the cast singing Seasons of Love. The impact of hearing these voices that I've been listening to nonstop for a month in the theater was mindblowing. Tears filled my eyes. I was like, uh oh... I'm gonna be a wreck aren't I?
  • The next song, Rent. All those people singing so powerfully. More tears!
  • Will I. That song has made me cry just listening to it, and watching... wow.
  • Without You. Roger and Mimi apart is painful enough, and then it's everyone being sad and broken up and then Angel getting sick...
  • Angel's death, his funeral, and the I'll cover You reprise. Jesse L. Martin was incredible there, and when everyone stood up and started singing I started crying even harder.
  • The first I'll cover You, because it was so beautiful. I wish their relationship had been developed more.
  • When they found Mimi and brought her up... right through the end. I really thought she died, from listening to the soundtrack! So when she woke up I was genuinely surprised.
  • Definitely teared up during One Song Glory
  • Oh yeah, I Should Tell You out in the snow

See? A very very large portion of the movie. Wow.

My favorite characters were Mimi and Roger, just cause I had fallen for them through the soundtrack already. Also? Roger is really pretty, lol. I think Rosario particularly did an amazing job. During one scene.. umm, I forget which.... oh yes, Take me or Leave me, her facial expressions of shock were hilarious. And she has a beautiful voice. She was so vulnerable even as she was a total badass druggie. A tiny bit like Faith, actually (see last post). Loved her.

I also loved collins and Angel. They were so cute, both individually and together. Jesse has a gorgeous voice! I totally forgot about him being the cop from Law and Order, which I thought would distract me. I loved Angel's santa outfit, and when she broke the padlock! You go girl :)

I thought La Vie Boheme was *such* an awesome song. Just so vibrant and full of life. I loved that other people were part of it beyond the main characters.

I personally didn't really like Mark or Maureen. Mark was just so... awkward, when he's singing, like on the table in La Vie Boheme, it seems like he's trying so hard to be all cool and badass like everyone else, but he's just a dork and not attractive to watch o.O Then, Maureen, I don't know... she just annoyed me. Everyone else seems to love her... eh. Oh well.

But I LOVED the movie overall.

I just realized that the second half of Goodbye Love was taken out of the movie, does anyone know why? I suppose for time, but I miss it. My favorite line was in there: "You don't want baggage without lifetime guarantees / You don't want to watch me die." Also, it has the part where Mimi gets checked into rehab, which seems quite important o.O When Benny later says she left rehab, it kinda comes out of the blue because we didn't know she was in rehab in the first place.

Regardless, I love finally having context for these songs that I know so intimately. I definitely want to see it again!

I can't wait to see this movie....

I really want the soundtrack...but I've been up to my ears in projects lately. :-( I only was able to download a few songs from the movie version. Boo Limewire! Hehe. Ah well, I'll get around to purchasing it and hopefully seeing the movie in the theater.

I'll deal with listening to Tori Amos for a bit longer :-D

..!! * mouth drops open * THAT'S WHERE HE WAS FROM. *dies*

You cried all the parts I did, except I didn't cry in the song RENT. I LOVED this movie. I hadn't heard the sound track (except for seaons of love..zomg..) and at the beginning (and the end) I was totally dying for Mark and Roger to get together. But I loved Mimi, and I also loved Roger/Mimi.

Collins was amazing. Mark was .a.dfdasf what the fuck am I saying? They were all amazing. I could go on for hours about how amazing this movie was, because that's just the perfect word for it. But, I won't. Because you obviously already. know. ♥

I'm so glad you enjoyed the movie! I thought RENT was so....moving. Incredibly. Mimi and Roger were definetely my favorites too ;) I think I fell a little in love with him.

You should make some RENT icons, considering all of yours always kick ass.

    heart,

I love it too! I wept. >< But that's only because Tuesday marks the one year anniversary of my friend's death (she died in a car accident though). And Angel's funeral was almost exactly like the funeral of another one of my friends that died in May (and she died of cancer and of AIDs related complications). I saw someone I hadn't been speaking to there and I was so emotional I hugged him. So watching the movie was so hard... But one of my favorite parts was the look of the tango. Nothing like on Broadway, so it was a wonderful translation. XD

Ohh, your review here makes me want to consider going to see it. The ads here on the television have been rather short and I didn't really see the hype. However I adore musicals, so I'll probably drag someone along with me. Awesome songs in there and I'm in need of a new musical anyway. ♥

The movie was amazing. I've seen the play twice, and I love it onstage, but I don't know how they could have done the adaptation any better. I love that they used pretty much the entire original cast.

The stuff they left out, I get why they had to do it, but the last half of "Good-bye Love" is important not only for the Mimi stuff, but because it makes it clear that Roger is leaving more because of his fears and insecurity issues than because Mimi is still on drugs. Still, for time sake, some stuff has to go.

The first time I saw it onstage, I was so sure Mimi was dead too and then so surprised when she woke up. We took a friend of my dad's who had never heard of Rent to the movie and she was blown away. I forget what an emotional rollercoaster it can be for people who don't know the story and aren't expecting it. I wasn't very familiar with it the first time I saw it and I was a wreck for days.

I loved RENT too! I don't know what part I liked best; I think I cried from Angel's death through the end anyway. I didn't like Mimi that much; she was alright, and I didn't want her to die, but I dunno. Maybe because she said she was nineteen? That freaked me out. Roger was cute, and I liked his voice. I didn't like Maureen either! She never seemed genuine or honest. Will I was one of my favorites, and so was Take Me or Leave Me.

Oops, sorry about the long comment!
