Today I spent a lovely Sunday afternoon at the outlets with my roomies! I didn't plan on buying much (lol) but came away with this ridiculous haul:
  • Shirt from Banana Republic ($11)
  • Henley from Old Navy ($12)
  • Deep purple peacoat from Anne Klein ($99 down from $280, oh my god)
  • Two pairs of jeans from Aeropostale that actually FIT ($42 on a buy-one-get-one-free deal)
  • Three bras from Bali ($45)
  • Five bags of cookies from Pepperidge Farms ($10)

SO BASICALLY I WOULD CALL THAT A WIN. The purple peacoat in particular I am soooooo excited about - it's mid thigh length, with this beautiful tiered collar and a belt and UGH I LOVE IT. :') I was sort of idly wanting a new peacoat because mine is all tattered, but when I put this one on I just fell in love. And how can you argue with that price?

Besides being an entirely successful shopping spree, it was just a lovely day with my girls! The weather was SO BEYOND PERFECT, mid 60s with cotton ball clouds and sunshine, and I loved it to pieces. My roomies were chilly but it was just ideal for me. :) And speaking of roomies, I have two new ones! Our two public health roomies moved out, leaving me, Emily and Nichole, so we chose new roomies over the summer and I must say that once again we hit the jackpot. Alex is starting law school with the intent of working in international conflict resolution. She just finished a masters program in BRUSSELS and once spent a semester in Ireland, omg! AND SHE LOVES ALL THINGS JOSS WHEDON, I MEAN WHAT, HOW IS SHE SO PERFECT. HER FAVORITE CHARACTER IS FAITH!!!! She's beautiful and funny and smart and giggly and assertive and I might have a little girlcrush, LOL. But I really love hanging out with her. And Kortni just graduated from UM and is now working in the UM hospital as a research assistant for a neuropsych prof. She's tall and funny and a little absurdist sometimes - she spent our walk home from drinks tonight PRETENDING TO BE A PTERODACTYL, ahahahaha, Emily and I almost broke something laughing. So obviously she's super fun to have around. :D Basically it's an awesome mix of personalities again and I'm so happy! I love having a fun house of roommates, but also my own awesome room so I can retreat whenever I need to.

Hey, look at me, doing a daily update! I'm going to try to get back into the swing of this because it was SO nice to have LJ comments in my inbox again. I promise it won't be all fussball all the time. *g*

In work related news, I have been.... really stressed out and in a bad place recently. Nothing seems to work at all anymore, and I have a research plan to write from my boss and I'm having a hard time with it, and I read some things in the literature that make me seriously doubt my hypothesis, and I've been seriously doubting whether I even want to be a scientist, and etc etc etc. I honestly think that coming for my PhD was kind of the easy way out of an otherwise grueling job search, but I've never been able to envision myself as a bench scientist or a professor in the long term. I'm not sure what I DO see myself as though, is the problem. I've been looking at all kinds of alternative types of employment, but in the meantime, I've still got 4 years of research to do. I really hope I can find the heart to see me through it. I'm sure I'll feel a bit better once SOME experiments start going well again.

...that's it! I should probably go to sleep!

It's September 6th in my timezone, so Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] enoughoflove!!! You are such an incredibly generous, sweet, selfless person - I will never forget how you called me and held up your phone so I could listen to Kane live while I was drunk for the first time in my life, in Nashville, at Wincon. Top 10 experiences of my life? Most definitely. And then you got his autograph for me, and you didn't even know me that well, and I just. It was so incredibly sweet of you. I'm really glad the fandom tides have conspired to give us a common passionate love of those wee Panic! boys, because I have really enjoyed getting to know you better even as we squeed our brains out over those gaymos ;) I know you're going through a tough time right now, but you are so strong and I know you'll make it through this. *hugs tight* I hope you have a good day, sweetie! Ryro offers you a pretty flower - AND his pretty mouth. *g*

Let's see, brief update before I collapse in bed.

The gynecologist day was THE DAY FROM HELL. I went to where my mom said the gynecologist's was, only to find they had moved - to across the street from my house. Yup. Great sense of humor, life.

However, today was lovely to make up for it! I went to the bank and worked out how I'm going to transfer my money to Ireland. Then I went SHOPPING at Kohl's (which totally owns me, I fucking love that store) and spent a mere 85 bucks on four tops (two of which are hoodie type things, uh. yeah.), a pair of pants, and a NEWSBOY CAP which is the most adorable thing in the whole world and I'm passionately in love with it. It looks a loooot like Ryan's, and um. YAY! Pictures will be forthcoming.

Also, my new charger arrived ALREADY! I got the email that it was shipped LAST NIGHT, and it arrived at my dad's house today! ROCK ON, APPLE. Way to redeem yourself. I HAVE MY LAPTOP BACK YAAAAAY. So I had to drive to my dad's to pick it up so I'd have the charger when I go down to Lancaster to visit my friends at college tomorrow.

My mom let me borrow her Saab.

Let me just say that MCR is a fucking amazing soundtrack for ripping down a twisty two lane highway at night at 110 MPH. Seriously. That car? Holy shit. You guys might not know this, but I have a thing for cars, in that get-a-tingle-down-low when I hear a particularly growly one kind of way. And this car has a turbo on the accelerator that um. Um. Kind of destroys me just a little bit. Ohgod. Um. I'll stop before I embarass myself any more. *weak flail*

And with that I bid thee bonne nuit. *flees*

So I've plowed by way through the first 6 eps of SGA. It's so much fun! My thoughts are as follows:

  • Sheppard is really, really hot, and also adorkable and fun and sexy and I want to smish him. Also, his voice reminds me STRONGLY of Luke Danes from Gilmore Girls. Sometimes if I close my eyes it could BE Luke. It's slightly disorienting, but I love Luke, so it's okay. And this icon is so BADASS, I love it.

  • Sheppard and McKay are *clearly* married. I mean, they've basically only just MET and they've already got so much chemistry, it's falling out of the screen at me. Of course, I may be biased (I blame Erin and Mona) but EEEE. So adorable.

  • Ford is deeply random - I mean, he's just this soldier that seems to sit in on their important meetings and go on every important mission, for no apparent reason - but I think he's a total cutiepie. Especially when he gets all impish and smiley :D

  • FUN! :D

So I went on a marathon shopping adventure with my mom and sis today, and made two very fun purchases. I got myself a GORGEOUS peacoat at Macy's. Calvin Klein, dark green, cashmere blend - just so gorgeous. And on huge sale of course. And then I got myself these completely sexass black laceup boots at a Nine West outlet. And I have pictures!

Bargain shopping is FUN. In which I pretend to actually be semi sophisticated and hot. Does it work? :P )

Shopping is fun :D Uh, sometimes. It also tends to be somewhat demoralizing, but er, whatever!
