Oh tell me about Francesca Lia Block! My Sarah told me to read The Wasteland - she was full of praise for it :)

Oh, you MUST read Wasteland. It's an incestous book and gorgeous just like every other thing she's written.

She is my absolute FAVORITE author. *runs to grab some books*

Here are some quotes from my favorite books of hers, because the way she writes is like, too amazing for words.

Ectasia - The circus tent was glowing pale in the rain like a fleshy flower lit from within. It seemed to bloom in the downpour. Drops of rain caught on Rafe's eyelashes, blinding him as the circus lights struck them. He groped for the flap, that slit in the fabric that would reveal her to him.
She was on the rope again, her skirt flashing with tiny mirrors, hair braided with petals. He looked up at her, dizzy with it, seeing her face framed in the parasol. There were bluish shadows around her eyes.

Wasteland - When you were a baby I sat very still to hold you. I could see the veins through your skin like a map to inside you. I stopped breathing so you wouldn't...
You were just a boy on a bed in a room, like a kaleidoscope is a tube full of bits of broken glass. But the way I saw you was pieces refracting the light, shifting into an infinite universe of flowers and rainbows and insects and planets, magical dividing cells, pictures no one else knew...
Your whole life you can be told something is wrong and so you believe it.

Every page of her writing is like that. It's AMAZING. Definitely check it out. Ecstasia has a companion book, Primavera and I'd also recommend The Hanged Man and her erotica book Nymph.

WHEW. Okay, so, THAT WAS A LOT. :D

ps, her website
