Explain "ghost/steve"!

Aw, that's a pairing from one of my favorite books. Okay, it is no real pairing but there are enough slash hints. (plus their are some other boy/boy pairings in the book, some small by-the-way ones.) and you totally know that Ghost (strange name, I know :p) has a crush on Steve. They are best friends.

The book is "Lost Souls" by Poppy Z. Brite. I think you can say, she writes horror. And mostly her main charas are boys. Gay boys. *laughs* Or at least gay-ish boys.
