I decided to try it, and I'm quite enamored of what I came up with, so here, I'm sharing:
The brush of Dean's thumb on Sam's cheek was all he needed to bring him crashing back to earth. When he thought Sam was dead, Dean felt fractured, apocalyptic. But Dean wouldn't stop fighting, believing, trusting that Sam was still alive. Because Sam said - he promised - he'd stick around this time. Sam said that. And random larks to Indiana aside, Dean knew he meant it. So when the gag came out of his mouth and his hands felt Sam's blood pulsing under smooth skin, it was like the pieces fell into place - even if some were missing.
Oh Winchesters. You own me, you really do.
