Thoughts before I go to bed:

This week's SGA played like a horror movie! I was so confused, and rather impressed. I think Joe Flanigan accidentally walked onto the wrong set (where there were GIRLS) and the cameras followed him. Whatever, it worked, and it scared the shit outta me, while giving us four interesting and distinct female characters, and confirming my belief that Carson is a whiny bitch who has very misplaced patriarchal inclinations. Hate me if you want, I just call em as I see em.

Sarah Palin scares the fuck out of me too. I hate her rather passionately. If you haven't read the email written about her by a woman from Wasilla, Alaska, you should. It paints a level-headed, fact-filled picture of Sarah Palin as a ruthlessly ambitious, greedy, self-serving, frighteningly savvy woman who will do anything to get more people to look at her. Fun piece of trivia: when she became mayor of Wasilla, the town of ~5,000 had a balanced budget. When she left, it was in debt by $22 million. The main expenditure? A $15m sports facility. Oh yeah. This is who we should trust to help rebuild our shattered economy.

I have faith in Obama, and I have faith in Biden. I know that they won't sink to Palin's level of underhanded shit-slinging. But I'm afraid that that could be their downfall. That the masses will listen to her viciousness and get little thrills down their spine because hey, that woman sure is emphatic! she must be right! Politics (and particularly political campaigns) disgust me in that they often turn on the lowest common denominator, to whom the intelligence and passion of Obama is completely beside the point. They care more that Sarah Palin once drove her kid back and forth from hockey practice. I saw a Republican refer to Obama in the comments on a political blog as "a nasty, ambition, parochial, disingenuous, Chicago machine politician, with a good education but very skewed world view and questionable associations" and I was absolutely floored. If you have spent even five minutes watching Obama speak, how does the word "nasty" even approach your consciousness? HOW DOES THAT WORK? I fundamentally do not understand such drastic divides of perception between myself and others, which is why I have such a hard time engaging with politics in any way, and why my discussions with my roommate, who appreciates the political savvy of the Palin choice and everything she's done though he does not agree with it, often get quite heated.

Ugh. I just meant this to be a short bullet point on how much Sarah Palin horrifies me. I apparently have a lot to say on the subject. I'm sorry to those who don't like to hear about this (although, as someone who usually goes "ew, politics", I think right now is the time to be paying attention if you're American) but I think right now I NEED to say something. I have never before cared so passionately about a political election. That both excites and scares me. Just thinking about the possibility of Obama losing brings tears to my eyes. (I'm not lying. literally. right now.) I'm scared of what it would do to our country, but I'm also scared of what it would do to me. I think my faith in basic human goodness would be very fundamentally shaken, if not shattered. It scares me a lot.

If you have a favorite political blog or source of info on the campaigns, could you point me to them? I'm finding myself wanting to actually be very informed on this, so that I can discuss it passionately without getting stymied by questions I cannot answer, as often happens to me. I want to back up my gut feeling with FACTS, of which I know there are gazillions.

I had a lovely relaxing day with Colin today. I spent the night last night and then we didnt emerge from his room until, um, 4 PM. Yeah. We watched Heroes when we woke up, and his VLC is set to repeat, so the episode replayed uh, 3 more times before we were, hmm, unoccupied. Haha, yeah. Anyway! Very relaxing day :)

I want to talk about TEEVEE! Surprise!

First, before I get to the squee, WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THE WRITERS GUILD STRIKE???? Unless you are and I've missed it which is completely logical since I haven't been keeping up with most of my flist. But. This is BAD NEWS BEARS. It starts tomorrow, or something, and means that NO MORE TV will get written. Daily Show is going off the air, 24 won't have a complete season, etc etc. Colin said the last strike, in 1988, went on for 6 months and fucked a whole bunch of shows all to hell.

GAH. *panics a little* This is particularly bad news for BSG, but it's just bad all around, and I'm so nervous! Does anyone have any more information that might make me feel a bit better? I heard about it first from reading articles about Joss's new show, where he said it couldn't start getting written until after the strike. Gah! *flaaaail*

Okay, now we get to the squee, because you guys, TV IS AWESOME.

Heroes 2x06 )

Supernatural 3x05 Bedtime Stories )

Stargate Atlantis 4x05 Travelers and 4x06 Tabula Rasa )

Colin watched SGA with me, and he really liked it a lot! \o/ I'm going to work on getting him started from the beginning, hurrah! He also hasn't seen BSG! He's a geek but a not quite fully accomplished one - he just doesn't ever get around to dedicating the time to it. I will fix that! :D

Colin has invited me to go watch a Trinity rugby match, in which his sister in law will be playing and where I will get to meet his VERY pregnant sister! I'm pretty excited, meeting the family and all :D Should be fun!

So guess who's coming to give a lecture at my school? Dr. John Sheppard! Heee. I am deeply amused.

I watched SGA 3x14 Tao of Rodney with my friend Rob tonight. I've rewatched it like 15 times, but he hadn't seen it yet. My thoughts, plus some about Rob's thoughts on Rodney and John )

Yeah, favorite episode of SGA. Hands down. *happy sigh*

It's Friday! The week from hell is over! \o/ *watches Angel and reads Wincest and McShep fic* Yay!

I've downloaded and listened to a couple season 2 SGA commentaries by Martin Gero (writer, very funny), Joe Flanigan, and David Hewlett. They are all *hilarious* together, and Joe and David banter adorably. Awww. The ones I've listened to have been for Conversion and Lost Boys, and I just died of laughter for both of them. There are so many little gems, but a couple yummy ones...

  • David mentions that he needs to get some slo-mo for his character, and Joe says "Slo-mo of you and Paul running to meet each other in a field?" HEE.

  • In The Lost Boys, there's that scene where John and Rodney have a conversation in a field, and when it starts, Martin kinda cuts off the hilarity and says: "There's a kind of... there's a warmth between you two guys that comes out - I mean, not to get all serious for a second - but you guys really do have a very nice chemisry on camera." And of course Joe and David are like "oh yes, that's hatred!" but I love that Martin points it out because it is REAL and TANGIBLE and, I mean, Rodney/John was not intentional by any means, I don't think, but Joe and David just work so *well* on screen together, that it just happened, organically, you know? I love it. Love love :D

  • They even talk about assbabies! Martin: "I've said on the record... if the world was cruel enough, to allow Brad and Robert [producers or something] to have a child, it would be David Hewlett as Dr. Rodney McKay." Hee.

There's so much more, but you all need to buy the S2 DVDs when they come out and watch the commentaries :)

Some scattered thoughts on SGA 3x20 First Strike )

Overall I really liked this episode a lot :D It was intense and climactic feeling, and I just enjoyed it a lot. I'm so sad I'm done watching! :( But as soon as Rob and I finished the finale, we went back and watched the SGA pilot! *laughs* It was so fun watching our darlings in the beginning - god, could I love John any more? No. None more. And I love how Rodney and Elizabeth warm up to John immediately, even while others are a little wary of him. I did keep expecting to see Ronon, haha.

Baaaaasically, I love this show. ♥

(See new icon! Awwwww, BOYS! I simply can't stop rewatching Those Scenes from Tao of Rodney - you know the ones I mean :D)

*squeeflails* I LOVE THIS SHOW MORE THAN I CAN EXPRESS.

Last night, I made the questionable decision to stay up until after 2 AM watching SGA 3x10 and 11 - The Return parts 1 and 2, even though I had class at 8 AM *facepalm* I was regretting it today, as I could barely see straight, even with coffee, and ended up napping from 8-9 PM :-/ BUT! The sheer joy of these episodes was nearly worth it. And then I watched 3x12 Echoes today. SO MUCH LOVE LSKJFLSDKFJ.

    Further thoughts/squeeing )

Basically, I'm SO IN LOVE GAH. I'm sad that I've only got about 8 eps left ahead of me. I NEVER WANT IT TO END.

In a nutshell? I really really REALLY love this show. Homg. I don't want to catch up because then that means I have to start waiting a week for new episodes! *poutyface* But at least there is still new stuff coming out! Gosh. I love this show. ♥
