I don't quite understand why bandom is looked at with such disdain by so many people. Never before have I felt so supremely judged simply for taking part in a specific fandom. I don't see this one as any different from any of my others - in fact, it's kind of Jsquared to the nth power. And I thought we were all gay friendly around here? So what is it about boys acting somewhat feminine that freaks people out? I just don't understand it. Does the music somehow not come up to some obscure standards? Are they too young? What is it that makes this fandom the subject of so much persecution? I've never been reluctant to post about a fannish obsession of mine before, and I kind of hate it.

This is just another set of boys. Another set of boys who love each other a lot, a lot a lot, and aren't afraid to show it. Another set of boys to write beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, gorgeous stories about, stories that reach out and touch you. Another set of boys to ogle and drool over and giggle at and flail about every time there's a new picture of them completely ignoring the concept of personal space. It's just more boys. So why does fandom at large make me feel ashamed?

I just had to get that out of my system. Moving on!

I did a lot of shopping today, and it was fun! My mom's fiance got me a $30 gift certificate to Borders, so I went and shop shop shopped, it was so much fun! I ended up with quite the haul:
  • "Infinite Jest" by David Foster Wallace - This author came to give a talk at my school last year, and oh, he was wonderful. I read one of his short stories before he came and he's so FUNNY! Incisively brilliant, too. This is his long novel and it was at a really good price so I couldn't resist.
  • "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman - I've been wanting to read this one for a long time. I loved [livejournal.com profile] lyra_wing's Supernatural AU based on this, so I bet I'm going to love the book too.
  • "Invisible Monsters" by Chuck Palahniuk - Damn you Ryan Ross! I probably won't like it, but who knows.
  • Sci Fi magazine, with Katee Sackhoff on the cover (KATEE! ♥) and containing the fall TV preview.

Yay! So essentially I'm set on reading material for the next, oh, year. I've been reading so slowly lately, sigh.

I also took my sister to Staples for her school supplies, and then to various clothing stores for school clothes. I got myself some cute long sleeved things for Ireland, including a couple hooded tops because hoods = love. Even if they're not quite hoodies *g* So that was a fun afternoon, just us girls!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

*deep breath* Okay. Okay. So videos are simply exploding onto the internets from the two Decaydance fest shows recently - Cologne (on my BIRTHDAY) and Paris! And at Paris, Brendon fucking Urie dedicated a song to Ryan fucking Ross, who proceeded to look embarassed and pleased and then pull Brendon in for a hug. YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS STUFF UP YOU GUYS. OH MY GOD I LOVE THEM SO MUCH I MIGHT COMBUST. The audio on the video is absolute SHITE, and I'm looking for a better version, but HUG, GUYS, HUG. The beauty starts about 1:05 in. I love how shy and pleased Ryan looks! Eeeeeee!

Other highlights: BRING IT with Gabe William and Travis! Who are all so snuggly together! It's ridonkulously adorable.
Panic! covering The Band's "The Weight" (?) - They do such a beautiful job with this song, I love it.
Panic!'s new song Middle of the Summer - Soooo good. Can I has new album naow? Kthx.
Panic!'s new song Nine in the Afternoon - Ryan introduces it (!) and that's what he calls it! Brendon sounds even better hear than he did at Virgin Fest, and I reeeeally love this song. Like a lot.
Build God Then We'll Talk - It's strange seeing them performing without their costumes and vaudeville troop and elaborate set design, but it's fun to just focus on the boys. You can't hear Ryan very well, alas, but they're as great as always! I love Ryan saying thank you to Paris near the end, and Jon coming over to Brendon's piano at the conclusion. Yay boys!

God, I can't even imagine how I would react to going to one of these shows. RYAN BRENDON JON SPENCER PETE PATRICK JOE ANDY WILLIAM CHIZ SISKY BUTCHER MIKE GABE TRAVIS VICKYT AND MORE ALL IN ONE NIGHT???? *dies* They must be having SO MUCH FUN traveling together!! If we don't get some priceless behind the scenes TAI TV or other videos, I will be muchly disappointed! I love all these boys (and girl!) to such a ridiculous degree. Whee!

Well that's certainly enough out of me, so shutting up now.

YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS STUFF UP YOU GUYS. OH MY GOD I LOVE THEM SO MUCH I MIGHT COMBUST.

They are so adorable I pretty much can't stand it. I've been reading P!atD fic for three days running without really stopping to sleep. This situation is COMPLETELY OUT Of HAND. But I am filled with flailing, squeaky love every time I am confronted with Ryan Ross or Brendon Urie. This sort of your fault, you know. *g* You linked fic (unlike most people, my flist has NOT been eaten by bandom, and you were one of the few) and I was like "Anne usually likes what I like. I'll read that." and then I was like HOLY SHIT. And that is all I have done for DAYS. I'm hooked.

I admit to having reservations just because the Panic! boys always strike me as so young, (even though I guess they aren't, really), but those reservations are completely specific to P!atD and do not extend to other bands or bandpom as a whole. Also, they clearly are not that deep because I mainly read P!atD because 1) that is the canon that I know and 2) RYAN ROSS AND BRENDON URIE. THEIR LOVE IS SO. I CAN'T EVEN.

Also, I love emo boy band music a lot. A lot a lot. And I loved it way before I knew there was bandom. So eh.

Since my flist has somehow not been eaten by bandom, I haven't seen much of the negativity, though I have heard tell of it. I'm sorry you're getting grief for it; it does seem silly, especially in a post-popslash world. *hugs* I've been a little afraid to post too much about it myself just because I figure that most my flist won't know (or care) what I'm talking about. There are a few though. that's good to know. ;)

Oh god honey, WELCOME TO THE PARTY!!! *Does a happydance* Yay! This brings me so much joy! I will GLADLY take blame for your downfall *beams*

The Panic! boys are BABIES, it is true. However, I am 20 and Brendon and Ryan are 20, Spencersmith is 19, and JWalk is 21, so honestly, no qualms here. I LOVE their youth and greenness and how they're still trying to figure out who they are and who they want to be and what the hell this fame thing is, and they're just so refreshingly innocent and sweet and honest and joyful and passionate and oh I just want to put them in my pocket!

RYAN ROSS AND BRENDON URIE. THEY. THEY. *SQUISHES THEM TOGETHER* I'm so glad you share my OTP! Jon/Spencer is sheer joy too, but nothing gets me in the gut like Bden and Ryro. Gah BOYS. *squeetwirls*

I loved this music forever too! FOB and Panic! and MCR! It's really fun to listen to it now with fresh ears, knowing the adorkable darling boys that are behind each of the songs.

Don't be afraid to post! Post away! Or, alternatively, if you ever just need to get something out feel free to come to my comments and unleash :D I am in a bandslash mode 24/7 these days and just want to squee always! Yay! *hugs you tight*

Hee. *clings* I very well may have to come over here and squee. I have been telling lots of people who really, really don't care that, like Ryan is lyricist and Brendon is the singer and therefore BRENDON IS THE VOICE FOR RYAN'S EMO PAIN AND ISN'T THAT HOT? And they're like O_o. What happened to you? *g* Of course, now I am leaving the country for a month, and while I'm stoked about that, I AM aware that I've been in fandom too long because the lack of fic is definitely a concern. *g*

Oh god, true story, one of the very first youtube vids I watched of Panic! was a very very brief snippet from the DVD, the interview where Brendon is talking about how difficult it was to sing Ryan's lyrics, and he says "Oh god, you know, I don't know if I can do it justice, because these are your words, how am I going to be your voice?" and he has this open vulnerability on his face and um. I decided immediately right then that they were COMPLETELY IN LOVE. It remains my very favoritest interview snippet of them of all time. Good god, BOYS.

Aww, the lack of fic IS a concern! You should print out some good long ones to help keep you from going insane!

Can you link me to this if you have it handy? I have been searching Youtube, and I cannot find it!

Hmm, I'm sure it's hosted by the official FueledByRamen account... lemme see. Yep! Here we go. I couldn't love them any more if I TRIED

However, I'll do you one better. Because NO panic! fan is complete without seeing their DVD, I'll upload my mp4 file of it for you. It's so fucking good oh my god. Speaking of, do you have the live versions of their songs? If not, you can find a zip file of the mp3s I ripped from that DVD here! Trust me, it's so worth it, I can't even listen to the normal album anymore because the live stuff is SO MUCH BETTER. Most notably because RYAN ROSS SINGS and I WANT TO HAVE HIS BABIES. \o/ So yes, I will link you when the upload finishes!
