Torchwood 2x13 Exit Wounds
Apr. 5th, 2008 03:30 pmOh my God, Torchwood.
That was... that was incredible. Magnificent, stab-in-the-gut kind of drama. Holy shit. I'm still sobbing.
TOSHIKO. You beautiful, brilliant, brave woman, with a heart even larger than your mind. Who seemed to be dealt nothing but tragedy, yet remained a sparkling light until the very end. Her message on the computer killed me. I'm crying again just thinking about it.
And OWEN. Owen Harper, who I cried for once already this season, whose impotent rage was tamed immediately because he was breaking Toshiko's heart. Best line of the episode, hands down - Naoko Mori outdid herself with that entire scene. God that hurt. Their quiet conversation at the end was lovely and perfect and heartshattering. When did they become my favorites??? I will miss them both terribly :(
Gwen was great this episode, which was a relief because sometimes otherwise really good episodes are tainted by my general SHUT UP GWEN reaction. Rhys was lovely, and ANDY! I kind of heart Andy a lot. "Brilliant secret, I ask, you tell. Well done!" Heehee. I looooved Tosh and Ianto taking out those weird reaper things, haha. They were so badass! <3 The only real moments of comedy in the whole episode, right there.
UGH JACK AND GRAY AND JOHN. MY HEART. *flails* Is it just me, or did they sort of blend John Barrowman's voice in with the actor for Gray? Because they sounded an awful lot alike. Anyway, I thought he was great, very cold and psychopathic without being in your face about it. John was heartbreaking - he seemed to be reveling in the destruction he was wreaking, but then we found out that he couldn't help it, and at the same time he was feeling genuinely like a lover scorned, and oh it was just all so screwed up! John being buried for millenia, ow ow ow that hurts (just like thinking about Angel down in the sea. Meep! "Oh how wrong we were to think that immortality meant never dying" INDEED. Gerard Way - genius? Perhaps!). And just. That triangle was so fascinating. And now Jack's got his fucked up little brother frozen in the morgue - that's just intense.
OH THE TINY LITTLE TEAM LEFT AT THE END BROKE MY HEAAAAAAART. They're all that's left! I sobbed some more! *flails*
(My only nitpick of this episode was the general neglect of Ianto, but watching him record Tosh and Owen as deceased was an episode's worth of guttwisting agony, just seeing his face, so I mostly forgive them. Though would it kill them to let him kiss Jack when he finds out he's alive? Gosh.)
OW, TORCHWOOD. OW. That hurt almost as much as Seeing Red, or The Gift, or Maelstrom. Well done!
P.S. I have decided that Our Lady of Sorrows by MCR is the theme song for this episode. So perfect!!

Date: 2008-04-06 03:58 am (UTC)I had a bad night. Then I decided to watch the season finale. Then I was worse off than before.
And I must agree that I thought they put a bit of John's voice in with Grey's. Grey...was compelling. Ridiculously so.
I can't believe they killed Tosh. I LOVED Tosh. And I almost hated myself for liking Gwen in this episode, because like you I have a SHUT UP GWEN reaction almost constantly, and I hardly think she deserves the wonderfulness that is Rhys.
I hate Owen in the first season, but this whole season has made me feel nothing but utter OMGILURVEYOU for him.
I was a wee bit disappointed with the lack of Ianto and Jack love, but I'm hoping they'll make up for that come Series 3.
I don't think this comment makes sense because I really only finished the episode maybe twenty minutes ago. I'm still a mess. I cried so much at Tosh's farewell message.
And YES to your comment about Owen being tamed by her "breaking my heart" comment. SO PERFECT!
UGGH.
Torchwood just gets better with age.
P.S. I so would love to see some more of Captain John, especially after a ridiculously WONDERFUL episode like this.
