Yes we can heal this nation
Nov. 4th, 2008 08:05 amSEE ICON.
Except no, this time, this time WE'VE got this. WE'VE GOT THIS. We are going to vote, and volunteer, and hope and fight and win.
Today is a historic day. Take part. Find your local campaign office - you'll be blown away. Follow Huffington Post as the day progresses and stories roll in about record-breaking lines, stories of endurance and courage and hope. Last night I read about a woman who had just had a Caesarian section and had her husband drop her off at the early voting booth so she could vote, still in her hospital slippers. A 90-year old woman, bent in half over her walker, who waited in line so she could cast her vote for Obama.
Thousands of these stories will ring across the nation today. Don't get lost in despair when you hear this polling location or that is getting a bit FUBARed. For every fucked up machine, there are thousands upon thousands logging vote after vote for Senator Barack Obama of Illinois. So far on my flist this morning I have seen stories of record breaking lines twice.
This is not a run of the mill election.
Yes we can. Yes, we can.
♥

Date: 2008-11-04 04:55 pm (UTC)My polling place was actually at my old elementary school around the block, so, because it's very nice and warm here today, I walked over with my iPod tuned to the Rachel Maddow podcast and just soaked in the sun and the wonderful foliage and felt very lucky to be alive. It was very strange walking into the school gym as an adult exercising my democratic rights; it was much smaller than I remembered. And very hot.
I'm so nervous/excited that I doubt I'll be able to finish my project I'm supposed to present on Anthony Burgess & his "A Clockwork Orange" for tomorrow's Censorship class. Depending on what happens downtown (the building I go into is right across from Grant Park), I may or may not have class tomorrow at all, or whatever happens is all we'll be talking about anyway. Tonight, I plan on checking websites and watching news coverage and hopefully grabbing a drink with my ex (hey, that's what adults do, yeah?), while enjoying a half bottle of wine I just remembered I still have in the fridge.
Just wanted to say thank you, Anne for all of your awesome energy this election season. It's been a great ride, and I don't think I speak solely for myself when I say having a friend like you to rant/squee/talk with during these crazy times has certainly helped my state of mind.
YES, WE CAN!
