I JUST FINISHED DOCTOR WHO SEASON 4!!!!!!! And YES, I managed to stay COMPLETELY unspoiled, 100%, so it BLEW MY MIND SIX WAYS FROM SUNDAY.

I just spent the last hour freaking out about this with Michelle so I feel like I've already said everything, but.

OH MY GOD.

First, the happy. ROSE AND TEN!!!!!!!!! FOREVER AND BEAUTIFUL AND IN LOVE AND AUGH MY HEART. I was like - no they're not. They can't. They're NEVER that nice. Wait. Really? REALLY?!??? EEEEEEEE!!!!!!

(I ASSUME everyone's seen the extended kiss? Because alK:FHEUNLEKJNLSDKC. SO FUCKING HOT!!!!!)

But then I stopped and thought about it for a while, and of course, it's still fucking TRAGIC. Doctor The First still has to leave Rose behind, has to go on without her. He knows she's happy, and he knows in a bizarre way that it's him making her happy, but he doesn't get to partake. He's still alone. And I just. That's so HEARTBREAKING and so very Doctor. It hurts my brain in the best way possible :(

And you think he's okay cause he's got Donna, but then. BUT THEN!!!!! ;_______; He has to ERASE her. Donna is GONE. The whole universe remembers her, but she doesn't, she's vanished forever, and it is so soul-tearingly horrible. The flippant goodbye she gives him, the heartbreak in his eyes. The most poignant conversation with her granddad, who by the way is the best secondary character EVER. He gives the Doctor the best solace he can - he will be thinking of the Doctor, in honor of everything Donna's done. That link will still remain.

Ow ow ow ow ow OWWWW. This show brings the hurt like NO OTHER, and I really do mean that. Other shows have made me very sad, but Doctor Who somehow manages to pull it off with such incredible gravitas and power and true, pure tragedy. I am really quite astonished at how wonderful this show is. I may go out on a limb and say it's a little bit the best show on television. I would compare its emotional impact to that of Friday Night Lights, which is certainly saying something.

I am just blown away. Quite apart from the end itself, everything building up to it was just masterful. First there was the dystopic episode in which London went up in a MUSHROOM CLOUD and there were LABOR CAMPS FOR ETHNIC MINORITIES. Children's show what??? That was just - wow. And I loved the Donna-Rose combo. (ROSE!!!!!!!!!! I squealed that a lot, lemme tell you.)

And then through the whole last two episodes, the whole FAMILY REUNION!!!! It completely made my life. EVERYONE! Jack! Ianto! (Gwen) Martha! Sarah Jane! ROSE!!!!!! Mickey! Jackie! Harriet Jones! EVEN K9. It was absolutely incredible. The scene with all of them flying the TARDIS together made me so very, very happy, just sent my heart swelling ten times in my chest. And all of the little moments between Rose and Ten had me squealing and flapping my hands in gleeeeeeeeee. When he asks her why she fought to get across the dimensions, she says "To get back to you." and he does the CUTEST FACE OF GLEE EVER, with his little TONGUE between his teeth omg. And she says "Shut up" with this GRIN and *flap flap flap*. And of course there was the aborted slow-mo run of reunion, and just all these little moments of connection and closeness and LOVE. I ship them VERY whole-heartedly and the whole thing was such a fond and necessary reconnection of these two characters.

AND NOW THEY'RE IN LOVE AND LIVING IN DOMESTIC BLISS AND EEE EEEE EEEEEEEEE.

Pee Ess Colin Morgan as a pretty little goth boy gave me NO END OF GLEE. *draws hearts*

But. DONNA! ;____; And even Doctor Two committed GENOCIDE and he's all BROKEN and there's all this PAIN. SHOW WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO MEEEE. Iloveyouso.

SIGH. I know I am SO late to this party, and I really have no idea how I didn't get spoiled (how did I not see a million icons?!) but there it is. I am completely aflail.

Michelle mentioned a vidder who makes good alternate trailers, so we toddled over to her YouTube page and found out that she is AMAZING AND AWESOME. I'm sure most hardcore Who fans know of her, but it's seduff on youtube, and this is a post-S4 AU video called Nobody Sees. It's an absolutely gorgeous piece. Then go watch the REST of her videos, which are just magnificent. She's unbelievably talented.

NOW. Fic? You know what pairing I want, YOU KNOW IT, so does anyone have a good direction to point me in? I've never really have the urge but now all of this is just swirling about inside me and I want more!

I wept for Donna. WEPT, I TELL YOU. I was so pissed off at how they tied off Donna's storyline that it nearly spoiled everything else I loved about the episode, especially THE FULL TARDIS OF JOY AND HAPPINESS. I cried happy tears during that bit.

Welcome to being caught up, dear! Now, to the Christmas Special! ;)

Donna's grandpa was ENTIRELY MADE OF WIN. He will definitely be one of the things I'll miss about S4.

I think one of my issues is that Donna didn't have a happy ending. Rose eventually got her Doctor (*GLEE*), Martha left on her own terms and got a husband and a job at UNIT out of it, but what does Donna have? Nothing. She's been reset. All that growth and all that awesome is just... gone.

RTD could have got Catherine Tate out a dozen different ways... that shouldn't have been one of them. :(

Donna's fate in itself ruined most of the episode for me. I ended up screaming a lot, "OMG HOW CAN THEY DO THAT?!" I loved her so much...

But yes, "Turn Left" (the one with the AU England where everything just kept getting worse and worse and worse and just this once, everybody dies) was the best episode of any show in the history of EVER.

I have a strange attitude towards moments like that. Even as it rips at my heart and makes tears down my face, I acknowledge that it is a brave and brilliant storytelling move. I don't respect story tellers unless they're willing to allow for consequences. For example, the big death in Serenity was tragic and heartbreaking, but I love it for that very reason. So while Donna was infinitely tragic, I admire it as a storytelling move because of that. She will always live on in our hearts!

I don't know if we can be friends anymore because I wish Rose died in a horrible agonizing way and left the Doctor alone.

Nah, it's cool. I'll get over it. I have another Ten/Rose fan for a friend. It's all good.

Happy day on finishing the season!

Speaking of the TARDIS Family, though, I have the soundtracks for every season if you'd like me to upload them. I even have the track that plays as they tow the Earth home.

To be honest, I loved the idea of Turn Left but the execution was not as well done. It had far too many plot holes for me.

Without Donna appearing on the TARDIS in the first place, how did the Doctor know about the Racnoss? The order to take down the ship was by Saxon, but without Martha there would be no Saxon. How would Sarah Jane know to go to the hospital from seaon three's Smith and Jones (especially since I'm sure UNIT didn't just go around telling people the Doctor died). It's an epic idea but probably required more detailed thought.

You are ABSOLUTELY right in picking up the labor camps as being one of the best features of the episode. Dr. Who REALLY brings in realism to sci-fi at times, usually choosing the best thing to let the audience identify with.

For me, Midnight was one of the best episodes. It was so out there for Dr. Who in the same way Blink and the The Family of Blood episodes were for season three. We never got to see the actual alien, we never get a complete explanation of it, and the Doctor really doesn't prevail in the end. It was wonderfully acted, too.

Haha, if you can't tell I'm happy you've watched it because I love talking over who with people.

Oh and as for fics? Any pairing can be found here:

Any Doctor, any type, any pairing. Hope that helps!

TARDIS OF JOY \o/ one of the best parts of the episode, really, the sort of family reunion that makes you feel all happy and squishy inside rather than wanting to strangle in-laws. The whole thing is tragic, but oh so very wonderful *g* (though not going to lie, this one fic that has another 'season' after S4 and changes how it goes does make me happy, because it's so good. though it's doctor/master, so might not be your cup of tea...)

Ooh, could you link? The Master and Doctor chemistry intrigued me very much, I'd love to check it out!

They definitely have some chemistry. (The phone call, for instance... though even in old Who they do.)

This (http://dwseason4.livejournal.com/) is an AU from the end of Season 3, and this (http://dwseason5.livejournal.com/) is the one from season 4. They don't follow each other, but I'd read the season 3 one first anyway, just cause.

They are both so very amazing.

The end of season 4 completely broke me. Donna! <3 Yay for Rose having a cheap copy of the Doctor and being happy with him, but the real Doctor is still sad, more than ever, and it kills me. :(
