Christ, I hate college students. :-/ I had to venture out of my apartment three times to do my laundry this evening, and there's loud music pounding from at least three separate apartments. I had to tiptoe gingerly around empty beer cans and puddles of beer, open doors to buildings for people carrying more alcohol, and run into a very obviously drunk dude (who was in my 20th C Lit class sophomore year). Also, the other buildings smell like ASS. I got so lucky with my neighbors. I feel like an old women, but yeah. HATE. >:(

Instead of partying, I watched Dollhouse episode four with Rob. I KIND OF LOVED IT OKAY. I feel like it's starting to get its sea legs. One of the things I really didn't like abotu the pilot is that it felt so serious. Now there are elements of sass and sarcasm and cleverness that are starting to come in that I love. And not just from Topher, though he is growing on me more every episode. He reminds of Wash with a problematically enlarged ego and self-centeredness. I'm just very charmed. I love Boyd even more though. I giggled a lot at how he dealt with the professor guy. "If you do that, you won't get paid and you won't breathe." And the guy's like...dammit. :D I loved this Echo personality, all sassy and competent and badassss. I love me badass chicks. <3 And then Sierra did an equally awesome job with the same personality imprint, which was a really interesting new thing, to have two characters play the same imprint. I'm also intrigued by what Ballard is up to - I don't think he really sent Victor out to be killed, I think he wants to see what happens because he suspects he's working for the Dollhouse. WE'LL SEE!

I am successfully hooked, I must say! Phew. Now I just hope Fox gives it an adequate chance to fully come into its own!

I also saw WATCHMEN!!!!!!!! My only major complaint is the violence. I'm not a terribly squeamish person, but that was just a LOT. I don't like watching bones pop out of flesh or arms get cut off. I JUST DON'T. I had my hands over my eyes a lot.

But EVERYTHING ELSE WAS AMAZING. I was captivated the entire time, which is impressive for a three hour movie! All of the characters were engaging and complex and grey, so fucking grey. JDM obviously did a brilliant job as the Comedian. He was also hot as fire. But I just loved how he conveyed that the Comedian's cruelty wasn't just for the sheer joy of it or anything, he was just THAT jaded and had completely given up hope on the human race. I hated what he did, but I couldn't bring myself to hate the man. Partly because HI JDM ILU. :D

Speaking of scorchingly hot, hi hello Ozymandias where have you been all my life. Ahem. He was so PRETTY. With the floppy blonde hair and the German accent peeking out from time to time and siiiiiigh. But BESIDES the shallow bits, he was SO INTERESTING. I wish we had spent more time with him and less with Laurie, tbh. I want to live inside his head! His fucked up head! He has this vision, derived from antiquity, about how to make the world a better place. And it involves killing millions, just like Alexander the Great did. (Well, not millions, but you know. A lot.) And the fucked up thing of it is, it works. The movie ends and the world is at peace! That's a "happy ending"! But at what cost?? Was it worth it at all? As the center of that conundrum I found Ozymandias just riveting.

Rorschach was another vastly fucked up and vastly interesting character. Clearly something is bent a little sideways in his head, but he's fundamentally a good person. It's hard to put a finger on him, for which his constantly-in-motion face as a metaphor is just genius. I loved that at the end, he was the one who wanted the truth to out, which is kind of objectively the "right" thing to do? And then he dies for it. What a tragic and interesting figure!

Dan was somewhat interesting too, but I was kind of the least invested in him and Laurie. Which is odd since they came to feel like the central characters. Hmm. I don't know, I think I'd need a rewatch to cement my opinions on them.

Dr. Manhattan was fascinating though. I love how he kind of regards humanity with his head tilted to the side, considering. I think they did a really good job of conveying the complete otherworldliness of him. And that thing he makes on Mars is just stunningly beautiful - that image has stuck with me since the first time I saw the trailer, and it's still breathtaking.

I just loved how SMART it was. Nothing's easy, nobody's "good" or "evil". Obviously that's coming directly from the novel itself, but I thought the movie had a great cohesive feel as a film itself. It was quite a movie-going experience, that's for sure. Satisfied me on multiple levels! Thumbs up, would pay to watch again. :D

Also, Desolation Row on theater speakers is ORGASMIC. Unf unf.

ETA: So it turns out the guy who plays Adrian/Ozymandias, Matthew Goode, is deeply and fabulously BRITISH and HILARIOUS and I LOVE HIM. :D

After Watchmen, I went to the mall by myself. I just wanted some black flats and a hoodie! I struck out on the former, and I have decided there is a world shortage in cute hoodies, because I went to like SIX STORES WTAF. It was IMPOSSIBLE to find a cute hoodie that didn't fit really weirdly. I went to Kohl's, H&M, American Eagle, Aeropostale, Hot Topic, Charlotte Russe, A MILLION PLACES. Noooo luck. Finally I went to Bonton, a department store. I found these gorgeous ones in the designer section but they were Lucky jeans and $90-130. D: I was very sad. Apparently only a lot of money can buy you a cute colored hoodie with nice patterns on it. So I wandered around that area more and finally found these soft pretty hoodies by another, less pretentious, designer. Sadly they didn't have any fun designs on them (I wanted something girly!) but they did have a lovely dark pink and they fit me beautifully. And only $25 on sale. But it was a less than satisfying conclusion to an EPIC journey, argh. I did on the other hand find a pair of soft, light, super comfy pajama pants for $6.40 on clearance. So that was nice.

Anyway, now I'm exhausted from walking around the mall for like 3 hours. And I have gotten nothing accomplished today, as usual! Tomorrow I have brunch at Ryan's, and then I'm in a concert in the afternoon. I suppose my paper/studying will happen at some point. *hands*

I found myself more invested on Silk Spectre and not caring too much about Laurie.

I feel like an old women, but yeah.

I say this to myself every time I have to put in earplugs to fall asleep because the girls on my side of the floor decide to have extra loud girly chitchats in the lounge that's only five feet from my room.

Or in front of the girls bathroom, which is right across the halls. *facepalm*

Ugh, that's so RUDE. I hate people like that, who just don't realize/care that they live in a communal space and have to be respectful. SIGH.

I DIDN'T KNOW MATHEW GOODE WAS IN WATCHMEN!!! I LOVE HIM. Ahem, my shallow comment of the day. I am going to see it with my friends in two weeks, after I'm done with tests. I am excited!

Still have to download Dollhouse, but see above. WHY ARE YOU GETTING IN THE WAY OF FANDOM, RL?

I'm sorry you didn't find what you were hoping at the mall! And also that college students SUCK with their stupid loud music.

♥♥♥

I never once said it was terrible! I was disappointed in the pilot because I felt like it could have been so much more, but it's been getting better and better every week and I'm really excited to watch it grow into its own! I just cross my fingers it'll be around long enough!
