Jul. 7th, 2010 06:21 pmI said "if they keep up their form" - and they didn't. I don't understand why they didn't (was Mueller that crucial? Were they that scared of Spain?) but... they didn't. It wasn't the same beautiful game we saw the past couple weeks.
I am heartbroken. It ended 2 hours ago and the tears are still flowing every few minutes. I never expected to get this invested in any sports team, and I suppose I should have prepared myself for the worst, but - they looked like they were going to win. They DESERVED to win with they way they were playing.
But you know what? This team was considered underdogs entering the tournament. They were young, inexperienced, and riddled with injury.
But they got to the semis. They still have the highest goal count of the tournament, and can add to it on Saturday. They have a chance to land a golden boot for Mueller or Klose, and a Best Player of the Tournament award for Basti, which he fucking deserves.
In short, they were amazing. And I am so, so proud of them. I'll see you in 2012 boys - my heart is yours forever now.
Oh and also - DESTROY URUGUAY! I really want to see you smile again before I have to say goodbye, okay?
&Die Mannschaft; Thanks for a great ride. I love you.

I watched the game before I went to work (and was actually LATE because of it) and my dad was being such a jerk about it, cheering for Spain and being generally obnoxious about the German players and I just wanted to PUNCH HIM IN THE HEAD >:( All I could think about the whole time was you, babe. It was so heartbreaking watching them play the way they did, knowing how frustrated and upset you would be. I have no idea what happened either, and it's so awful that one bizarrely bad game can end things so quickly. That's the way it is, I guess, but I know it really fucking hurts all the same :(

Date: 2010-07-08 01:40 am (UTC)They were so heartbreaking. :( It's so sweet that you thought of me. I have lots of theories about why they played the way they did, but the long and short of it is that they choked, and they paid the price. :-/ I'm so sad, but confident that we're entering a golden age of German football and there will be a trophy in our near future! I'm planning on following my babies in the Bundesliga in the interim - I'm too in love with Bastian Schweinsteiger to let him go. :)
Can you tell I've spent a long time talking to my fellow Germany fans and getting my head straightened out? I promise I wasn't this logical 5 hours ago. I still have a headache from crying though. :(
*clings to you* Thanks bb. ♥♥
