Or, How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Sexy Vigilante Irish Boys

1. Did I mention they're sexy? Yes, I'll admit it. One of the reasons I love this movie absolutely to pieces is because the two leads are DROP DEAD GORGEOUS. Except, they're not, not at first glance. The first time I saw it, I definitely thought connor (Sean Patrick Flanery) was the cuter one - he looks more... clean cut, more traditionally handsome. But now having *really* watched the movie, I've fallen madly in love with Norman Reedus, who is sexy in a pervasive, grows-on-you kind of way (I suppose in other ways too, since he was a Prada model, but he's just not like my usual type). Um. But yeah, they just make everything they do gorgeous to watch, you know? They have such incredible charisma, especially combined. (can I just say that they apparently have no need for clothes when they're at home? Fuck yeah.)

2. Humor This movie has some moments that just make me *die* laughing. Like when the three of them freak out after the cat gets shot: Murphy - "Did that really just fucking happen?!" And of course the entire deleted scene, with the phone conversation with their mom. "Ma!" "MA!!!!" "Ma!?!" "MAAAAA!!!" and of course "I've had ice on mine! Don't you fuckin start..." Whenever they smack eachother affectionately. When conner beats up Murphy with a fish. When they play that adorable game with the kid at the hospital. Heehee :D

3. Brotherly Love These two guys care about each other. In that intense, I'd totally die for you kind of way. And that's not an exaggeration, especially in this case. One of my favorite scenes in the entire movie is when Murphy's being taken away to be shot, and connor is freaking the fuck out. His pain is so acute, it grabs my heart and tears it out of my chest. Meanwhile, Murphy's quiet glance over his shoulder, which, in my eyes, is basically an "I love you," is quietly agonized. But it's also partially "We'll get through this. Because we're us." That's the strength of their connection. And then conner freaking rips a toilet out of the floor and leaps off a REALLY TALL BUILDING. (Side note: the shot of conner's hands in the handcuffs, bleeding profusely and just standing in mute testimony to his anguish and desperation - gorgeous). Apparently I'm a sucker for the intense sibling love thing (re: Simon and River) and I don't really know why.

3b. Slash, much? It's hard to articulate why, but these two are SO SLASHABLE. Seriously. Um. Yeah. That's all there is to say. Except...

3c. NO GIRLS!!! No stupid girls getting in the way of the OMGSEX all the time. It's just the boys and their pal Roc. Really, the female absence is so profound that when you see the girls at Roc's apartment, you're like, Huh? What are these strange creatures? The Rosengurtle whatsherface at the beginning doesn't really count, haha. Although she is quite awesome.

4. Blood, blood everywhere, and plenty of drops to drink if you happen to be a vampire. Far from having an abhorrence for blood, I find it.... I'm trying to find a way to say this without sounding sick. Blood, used in a not overly graphic way (i.e., blood itself is fine, but showing gooey wounds = not okay) makes things very... vivid? Intense? It just grabs me.

5. Great dialogue. I love the dialogue in this movie. It is just so awesome. I cannot get the prayer out of my mind!

And shepherds we shall be
For Thee, my Lord, for Thee
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand
May our feet swiftly carry out Thy command
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls shall it ever be
In Nomeni Patri et Fili
Spiritus Sancti.

Also: Roc: "We could kill everyone!" Murph: "What do you think?" connor: "I'm strangely comfortable with that."
It's all just so... memorable!

6. Gay power! Willem Dafoe's character is kind of really awesome. Although him in drag bothers me, not because it's drag, but because HE DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A WOMAN IN ANY WAY AT ALL (he's got a really strange face, even as a guy), I really appreciate that they have this strong, intelligent, tough, witty, awesome guy - and he's gay! On top of those other things, of course, he loves opera and moves exceptionally gracefully (Willem really does a magnificent job - they were so lucky to get him for this movie). Ummm. Yes. It's all very awesome.

7. Entertaining as fuck I come out of this movie just on a high. It's so... bambambam, and in a really really awesome way (not in a GoF way :P). Every scene is just so so great to watch. All that murdering and shooting and falling out of ceilings? It doesn't get any better than that.

8. Endlessly iconable I have never had an urge to icon that lasted this long. Seriously! I just can't get enough of the images from this movie. They are so conducive to gritty, textured, bloody icons, and apparently I am good at that :D Heehee.

9. Um, IRISH Those accents slay me. SLAAAAY. Just... every word that comes out of their mouth is hot. Guh.

In conclusion: I am a Boondocks addict, and proud of it!

Hey sweetsoul1013! You up for it? We need a third for the trinity
J-Bomb, Hellfire, and sweetsoul

Never shall innocent blood be shed.
Yet the blood of the wicked shall flow like a river.
The three shall spread their blackened wings and be the vengeful striking hammer of god

And it's starsouls, lol :P

lol! I was posting way too late at night. Sweet Soul is a line clothing that we carry in the store where I work part-time. And I'm sure you have one. : )

No rpg ,just carrying on with the icon thread. If you've checked out lostjane's journal, she's pretty good with the Norman pics and making up stories. You're way with manips is awesome and I imagine you coud make some kick-ass banners for BDS fic. I was joking with lostjane about being twins but I realized that we needed a third for the trinity.

I love the Boondock Saints too, but unlike you, I started out thinking Norman was the totally hot one, and grew to like Sean.

I always felt like Connor had a much more developed character than Murphy in the movie.

I can't *wait* till the second movie. I hope they develop Murphy's character more. Oh man... "All Saints Day" is going to be so awesome...

I really *hope* it's going to be awesome! I can't imagine how it will live up to this one (especially as they don't have Willem Dafoe, I've heard?) Just, this movie is so unique, I can't imagine the plot going in any direction that I would love as much. There are soo many ways they could screw it up. But! I'm going to try to be positive. I hope it's an absolutely amazing movie! *crosses fingers*

I think it'll be great. They seem to be taking their sweet time making it. And it looks to be much of the same creative cast.

All these weeks you've been talking about this I thought you meant the newspaper cartoon with the black kids. Lol. Ok, I'm stupid sometimes.

As for the Irish accents, I watch Murphy's Law on BBCAmerica for the exact same reason. It has way too much violence for me, and I have an Irish prejudice (of which I am not proud, but it's there nonetheless), yet I still find myself watching the show every week it's on.

Maybe I'll check this movie out when I get a dvd player again.

I just saw it for the first time a few days ago. Ingeniusly open-ended. 'Decide for yourself kind' of movie.

And, okay, who can resist the Irrrrisssh?

Dafoe...is...oh dear GOD...the opera scene is FANTASTIC...^^ I love it to death.

I agree with the open-endedness.... if there wasn't that montage of opinions at the end, it just wouldn't be the same movie. It would be like it was shoving vigilantism down your throat. But they give you that option, and make you consider what you would say if you were interviewed.

I took a peek at my Christmas presents, and my parents got me the DVD. So I can't wait until next week. :D

The sequel is still "in production" according to IMDB. :( Write a script, people. Get filming. I want to see my totally-gay-for-each-other Irish twins.

Oh man. SO gay for each other. I think I love you :D:D

I have a feeling that I'm getting it for christmas, but I'm not positive! If not, I'm totally buying it.

Naughty girl, peeking is bad! "Don't look in the closet, it's greedy. It's not in the spirit of the holiday." (Sorry, had to randomly quote from Firefly :D)

Heh. I love your icon. :D

Well, I didn't peek on purpose. I was getting something out of my parents' room and happened to see a FYE bag. I couldn't help but look. =P

Speaking of Firefly, I never watched it. But I probably should, since half my flist is obsessed with it. Is it worth renting from Netflix?

The script's been done since forever, but for a while it was Willem that held up production. Script change after script change, and a long wait beside that, Willem is no longer in it. There's gonna be a chick FBI agent now. Um, hello Clarice?

Wow, you have summed up everything that is wonderful is this movie. Like, seriously. I couldn't agree with you more, whoa.

But let me say this:
Slash, much?
Hell yeah!!! :D

I'm surprised at how many people are saying that - it was just my only semi-coherent rambling! hee.

Um, yes. Slash. SLASHYSLASHSLASH. I need to make an icon of them that's overtly slashy. This one's only subversively :P But they never hug or anything which makes it a bit tough :(

You did an awesome job summing up all the reasons that I love this movie. I just wish it hadn't taken me so long to find it. Oh, and it was Murphy for me all the way, in the cell when Murphy looks at Connor with his puppy dog eyes... I died a little. I never thought I would get that much into slash, let alone twincest, and then I found BDS and it's all I think about anymore!

From: [identity profile] exsequar.livejournal.com
I've been a fan of slash for just about a year - my induction was the lovely pairing of Remus and Sirius in the Harry Potter fandom. So much love. So of course the first time I saw this movie I was like SLAAAASH. Honeslty, I slash everything now. But this is one of the few that really stands out. And I never thought I'd be in for the twincest thing either, but I really can't help it with these two. Does it make me a bad person that smutty fic about them doesn't squick me in the slightest? ^_^

Date: 2005-12-22 01:38 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] writing-light.livejournal.com
I LOVE Remus/Sirius, they are my favorite OTP next to Murph/Conn! I see slash all over the place now. Even in things I've seen a dozen times. I saw Jarhead a couple of weeks ago and all I could think about was how there was going to be some icredibly awesome slash fic about the movie. "Does it make me a bad person that smutty fic about them doesn't squick me in the slightest?" Man I hope not because it doesn't bother me at all. Besides, how can you not slash them? They got along too well in the movie, and all the touching, OMG all the touching. Just thinking about it, lol. Excuse me, I think I'm gonna go watch BDS again!

Date: 2005-12-22 01:46 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] exsequar.livejournal.com
*flails jealously* I WANT TO WATcH IT! *whimpers* It's on its way from Netflix, but if it doesn't get here tomorrow, I'm leaving Friday morning, and ack! I neeeeed to watch this again somehow, augh. It's so hard not having it :(

That's so awesome that one of your OTPs is R/S!! That was definitely my top OTP for a while (especially while reading Shoebox, oh god) and I still adore them to absolute pieces.

Jarhead was great, and um, yeeeeah, I was totally slashing Swoff with his best friend (Peter Saarsgard's character, forget his name). Hehe. Have you read any good fic from it?

As for all the touching, you know, it's true that they're very comfortable with each other, but at the same time they never do anything overtly affectionate towards each other. There are no hugs or "manly" cheek kisses or anything like that. (Except for maybe the shoulder gripping in the hospital. If I'm forgetting anything, do tell!) It's just their entire dynamic, which astonishes and amazes me, that we got all this chemistry from their actual relationship and not just some choice interactions. It's... gorgeous. *guh*

I hate gratuitous swearing but this sound so good! Dilema's dilema's.

Date: 2005-12-22 06:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] exsequar.livejournal.com
It's not really gratuitous so much as realistic. The director talks about it in his commentary, and he says that, okay, these are two Irish boys (okay, men, but who's counting) who grew up in the slums with a drunk for a mother. They go around killing people. Are they really going to talk like choir boys? Their words match who they are, and it makes it all just that much more realistic.

But if it really does bother you, you might be wincing throughout the whole thing. :(
